To me so much of life has to do with consistency. Studying the scriptures, saying our prayers, serving in callings etc. My wife is one of those ppl that is consistent at anything she starts and if she doesn't think she can be consistent she does not commit until she's ready. Myself on the other hand my weight is like a yo yo and that's not good. LOL Consistency for me is hard, it's frustrating because I know I need to learn consistency while in mortality, it's the key!

Moderation....... message boards is a part of this and can be good or bad and the knowledge gained can be good or bad however this really got me wondering. The Brethren are really worried about the kids that I call "stuck in limbo".

I was talking with my wife about this months ensign article by Elder Bednar and the question came up "is this going to be the next great evil and if so how long will the prohets warn us and how long will it take before it's a huge, huge problem?" When I say next great evil I think back on "tipping points" of evil. To me I wonder if this is going to take a toll comparable to the "drugs and free love" of the sixties (I witness it and it was bad!) or even have such an effect comparable to drugs, (once again the sixties was the tipping point) It's interesting how he says this tactic employed is taking mortals back to a premortal state of bodiless. Great article. "I raise an apostolic voice of warning about the potentially stifling, suffocating, suppressing, and constraining impact of some kinds of cyberspace interactions and experiences upon our souls. The concerns I raise are not new; they apply equally to other types of media, such as television, movies, and music. But in a cyber world, these challenges are more pervasive and intense. I plead with you to beware of the sense-dulling and spiritually destructive influence of cyberspace technologies that are used to produce high fidelity and that promote degrading and evil purposes. If the adversary cannot entice us to misuse our physical bodies, then one of his most potent tactics is to beguile you and me as embodied spirits to disconnect gradually and physically from things as they really are. In essence, he encourages us to think and act as if we were in our premortal, unembodied state. And, if we let him, he can cunningly employ some aspects of modern technology to accomplish his purposes. Please be careful of becoming so immersed and engrossed in pixels, texting, earbuds, twittering, online social networking, and potentially addictive uses of media and the Internet that you fail to recognize the importance of your physical body and miss the richness of person-to-person communication. Beware of digital displays and data in many forms of computer-mediated interaction that can displace the full range of physical capacity and experience. Read carefully the following quote describing an intense romantic relationship a woman had with a cyberspace boyfriend. And note how the medium of communication minimized the importance of the physical body: “And so PFSlider [the man’s screen name] became my everyday life. All the tangible stuff fell away. My body did not exist. I had no skin, no hair, no bones. All desire had converted itself into a cerebral current that reached nothing but my frontal lobe. There was no outdoors, no social life, no weather. There was only the computer screen and the phone, my chair, and maybe a glass of water."

Isn't true the reason Nibley didn't write more is he had a problem with making money off them? Sure wish he would written more.

Depending on where you live eating healthy can be expensive compared to a bag or frozen burritos or hot dogs. Yes rice is cheap but once you start adding fruits and veggies (like a salad) it adds up! I went to the sun flower market sat and spent 20 dollars on just a few items. If I would of spent that on hot dogs from walmart no comparison.
-
You may be skinny in that picture but eating unhealthy will produce high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes just to name a few. "Diabetes was the seventh leading cause of death listed on U.S. death certificates in 2006". We have the word of wisdom for a reason is the whole point. Moderation in all things. Have you seen the documentary "Super Size Me"?

We are counseled to use words like "thou art" and "we thank thee oh father" and I feel that if were asked to address HF in prayer this way there's a reason for it in the KJV and we should stick to it. Though reading the other versions aren't a bad thing as long as one does not come to favor them over the KJV but I feel funny when I even pick on up LOL. In my mind this is a slippery slop to get on and I go with my gut feelings as much and I can.

I think there's a big difference between the two answers however the missionary might love the Savior as well but gave you the answer he thought might cause you to think the most. Exaltation is a blessing when understood by investigators brings great joy and excitement while to love the Savior as an answer might not as all christians profess that. You dont know if that missionary didn't love the Savior and I'm guessing that was his reply as well. In my mind I might say the same thing as he said thinking to myself that if I become exalted I will be with God and Christ and that is the only place I want to be with those I love more than life itself. I do believe though love comes from gratitude and knowledge and once true love is manifest is the greater of the two.

A blessing so great that you will not have room to receive it....
martybess replied to a topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
I can't put a figure on it myself but when I pay my tithing I feel almost ashamed because all that I have received. I have a small house and I give my extra away but it's not the money that I count as priceless, it's the other blessings that I'm at times unable to handle. But I can't put a finger on it really. ?? My patriarchal blessings say's that as I serve the Lord and my family "the windows of heaven will poor down blessings and my basket will be full spiritually and temporally". I am not well to do though. -
What do you think of the Plain English Book of Mormon?
martybess replied to prisonchaplain's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
I've looked at it before. Didn't get a good feeling about it. That's all it took. Maybe if it was endorsed by the Church. Main reason without reading through it to find an example is you have a guy interpreting this BOM to the way he see's it and we all know there's many meanings. I also miss the Thee's and Thou's etc.. LOL For non english speaking ppl maybe?? -
Dove, Thanks for sharing your story. Most can relate in one way or another and the fact of the matter is the Savior felt your pain too. He knows why some struggle and why some don't. We will leave it up to him to know who's had it extremely tuff. I admire you for admitting it's up to you and the Lord to deal with the issues. Thank You for your honesty. I have baggage but don't wont to talk about them so my hat goes of to you!!

Are there not already organizations that do just what PC is suggesting? I have a sister in-law in Alabama who is in such a group. All denominations with one common purpose, "help those in need." Community gardens, classes for the illiterate, cleaning up the neighborhood, etc. Or is this organization just to come to some sort of common ground in beliefs between LDS and Evangelicals?

A discussion of Heaven and our view of heaven
martybess replied to Traveler's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
Can the mind even comprehend what heaven would be like without buildings? I can't. Where would you be if not somewhere? And would this somewhere be a somewhere because it had a landscape with buildings? It has to be. Otherwise we would be a God that dwells everywhere but nowhere, can dwell in my heart but fill the universe. To be in a heaven without buildings is just not comprehendable. Where would we be then, in the middle of a big field? Or mountain? Maybe on a body of water? -
Since faith in God constitutes the foundation of religious belief and practise, and as a knowledge of the attributes and character of Deity is essential to an intelligent exercise of faith in Him, this subject claims first place. We would all believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost. These three are separate individuals, physically distinct from each other, is demonstrated by the accepted records of divine dealings with man, (the Bible). God and Jesus Christ have glorified bodies and the Holy Ghost is a spirit at this point and time. We would believe that men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam's transgression. We would believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel. We would believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance, third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins, fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost. Sorry I could help myself, I guess we wouldn't get anywhere with this list as a start. LOL Probably my number one demand would be God is my father, he knows and loves me. I wonder if almost all denominations would agree with that one.... hmmmmm? How about we are all brothers and sisters, cant we just get along?

A discussion of Heaven and our view of heaven

President Brigham Young spoke to the Saints of his day. “There is a great work for the Saints to do,” he said. “Progress, and improve upon and make beautiful everything around you. Cultivate the earth, and cultivate your minds. Build cities, adorn your habitations, make gardens, orchards, and vineyards, and render the earth so pleasant that when you look upon your labors you may do so with pleasure, and that angels may delight to come and visit your beautiful locations. In the mean time continually seek to adorn your minds with all the graces of the Spirit of Christ.” Brigham Young, Deseret News, Aug. 8, 1860, 177. Sounds like lots of work but think about the times when you have been the happiest and most often then not it has to do with some sort of thing where you were involved in making something better. A child, or person, a job, a calling, a lawn or yard, a hand sown dress etc. We feel really good when we help create beauty. Beauty in ourselves, others and in things. It's in us already, yes it's work but we will have a joy beyond measure doing it. -
A discussion of Heaven and our view of heaven

I think there's going to be some form of "the collective" as in star trek. We will have personal thoughts but we will be able to tune into the collective anytime. One common cause but personal satisfaction in helping in the cause. Hmmm kinda like the sacred trees in Avitar. I'm my own tree, I give shade, shelter etc to those who depend on me but my roots will be connected to all the other trees in the forest. I will do what is good for my spot in the forest but the cause itself will be the welfare of all that live in forest and on the planet. There will be cities and houses but made out of what and look like what I don't have a clue. Probably what meets our fancy. I like the house superman had at the north pole. All crystal looking, remember? Fields with perfect flowers covering the entire field and they sing perfect songs, what ever I want to make it like that's what it will be. It will be different if I go to someone else's heaven because it will be what they want it to be. There will be different degree's of heaven and I will be in God's heavens until I become a God in the highest and have progressed and learned how to make my own heaven, along with learning everything else. LOL It will take a long, long time but what is time to God? No sleep, no work because what we consider work will be joyful to do. Ok I better stop. lol -
Changes to Unofficial Mormon Doctrines/Culture
martybess replied to InquisitiveSoul's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
I think things haven't changed that much as far as soft drinks go. I think those friends you had back then had parents who taught them that it wasn't right but there were still ppl who drank it. I bet the ratio of ppl who do and who don't hasn't changed that much either. There are extremist (not the right word but you know what I mean) in every society. There is no commandment from the prophet not to drink coke but as far as R rated movies go the Prophet of God told us not to watch them and this is blatantly ignored by ppl. "We counsel you, young men, not to pollute your minds with such degrading matter, for the mind through which this filth passes is never the same afterwards. Don’t see R-rated movies or vulgar videos or participate in any entertainment that is immoral, suggestive, or pornographic. Don’t listen to music that is degrading. " Ezra Taft Benson, “To the ‘Youth of the Noble Birthright’,” Ensign, May 1986, 43 -
So ok it really is pretty simple but what leads to the other (greater love=greater testimony) or (greater testimony=greater love) or are the intertwined? Maybe they are one in the same, really. This is the opening sentence in the introduction to his book "Because He first loved us". Didn't take long for the Lords name to come up, didn't take long for him to get to the heart of the matter. Henry B Eyring "The first and great commandment is this “thou shalt love the Lord the God with all thy heart and all the might mind and strength and in the name of Jesus Christ thou shalt serve him. The restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ through the prophet Joseph Smith brought many blessings but for me none is more precious than knowledge of the loving nature of our heavenly Father and his Son Jesus Christ. When the Holy Ghost confirms that knowledge to us our hearts are prepare to keep that first and great commandment. Keeping the first commandment always leads in keeping the second because to love the Father and the Son is to serve those they love. In answers to our prayers for guidance they send the Holy Ghost to tell us how to help others and to feel at least a part of God’s love, so in that service our love of God increases and the keeping of that great commandment leads us back to the first in an ascending circle. In time our very nature change we are filled with a love of God which even in a world with so much misery and despair brings us happiness and hope."

I have chronic Peripheral Neuropathy which is kind of like Fibromyalgia and same medication treats both. Sundays are the most painful day of the week for me. I need to keep moving all the time and after hours of leadership meetings and the block I'm in pretty bad shape. I exercised on Sundays for years to keep the pain down but haven't for about 5 now. Reason I feel guilty and that reason enough. If your asking here maybe that's telling you something. I don't even go for walks anymore but I think that's going overboard a bit but to me it seemed like the daily workout. If that's all I did was go for a mile or two walks once a week on Sundays then i think that's a good thing. Clears the mind and you can spend quality time with your companion and the Lord as well as getting the blood flowing.

We talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, but do we enough?
martybess replied to martybess's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
Wow Justice I really like that and so true. The greater my testimony is in Christ the stronger my disposition to do good is, the greater my charity becomes, the stronger my hope and faith are and so on. So really if I really want to make it to the highest degree I need to really come to know Christ? No....the more I should want to be like Christ meaning I better come to know him so I will know how to become like him. -
I do not know why say a nun wears her clothing or why she has vowed her life to Christ but I think it's kinda the same for us except we do not choose to wear them over our clothing but under them. We do not try and make a statement with them to others or try to draw attention to them as does what a nun wears. We know and G_d knows what we have vowed or a better word would be covenanted. I will say after wearing them for over 33 years now they are a part of me.

We talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, but do we enough?
martybess replied to martybess's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
I don't know I guess what it boils down to is how our relationship with the Savior is? I hear someone really express themselves about what he has down from them, what the atonement means to them. Like they really do love him, appreciate him and I say to myself, do I that? Do I feel the same way? Sometimes I'm taken back a little and I resolve to do better and to make the Savior more central in my life (all the time). To always have him on my mind while spending the countless hours at my calling, while I go home teaching, while I go to the temple etc. I ask myself where would I be right now spiritually if I did this consistently day after day, year after year? I know much further along. Will I be ashamed when I pass from this life and really come to know how prevalent his in everything? Or will I be filled with joy? -

Hemi, there isn't a better example then Eyring. I love his talks. I just bought that book and plan on reading it as soon as I finish Holands "Christ and the New Covenant". Hmmmmmm maybe that book has brought me to a greater awareness. Didn't think of that til just now. LOL
