  1. I think as long as it uses the past tense and is as much about the social aspects as anything then it'd be alright.
  2. Check if the library has a copy of Arrington and Bitton's "The Mormon Experience." Succint account of our history geared towards non-LDS.
  3. And it has Vincent Price playing the best on-screen Joseph Smith.
  4. Temple Square is within the fare-free zone.
  5. I'm not sure that the Mormon Trek really ties into Manifest Destiny. The point of the trek was to place themselves outside the reach of the United States, allowing them to live as a majority according to their own laws and customs.
  6. Conditions in those factories are certainly horrible. I've worked in factories, I'm all for making them safer and working conditions more tolerable.
  7. I work at a 3rd party call center. We aren't allowed to hang up under any circumstance, doing so would most likely result in termination.
  8. Unfortunately, where I work that wouldn't fly. I completely agree that customer service should be courteous, but there tends to be an elementary lack of respect by the callers themselves.
  9. It actually didn't codify the Bible canon, but ruled on the status of 2 disputed books.
  10. So the replies reminded you of people trying to change the world for the better even though they didn't cause all of the problems? Awesome. I wish I could say the same about your posts here.
  11. Never said it was worse, but doing either is wicked. In your case it is also hypocritical.
  12. Poriyah, or some such variation. There is a village by that name but it is a modern one.
  13. Probably because Bountiful is an adjective that in time became a proper noun.
  14. I think that the struggle to gain your own sovereignty is not quite the same thing as invading another country to confiscate money for taxes. You want to go to war to take money. Why are you so keen on starting wars? Wars should be avoided at all costs, especially when they involve unprovoked attacks on other countries. Is worth a war that wil lend up costing far higher? There are USA owned businesses the world over. The Israeli factory my dad worked in was sold to Rumania. Nobody went to war over it. It has happened to me, I'm still a pacifist. Are you sure it isn't a rebranded Buck Turgidson?
  15. I dunno, but we burn heretics at the stake. That is the only stake that we do burn. What I mean is that you can't call it a meat pie when meat isn't an integral element, and you've made me hungry now. On my mission we were travelling back one day, had been on the bust for a while. During the stop I saw an old lady selling pirozhki. The pirozhok she had out was large and appetising (cabbage filling of course) so I gave her the money and she handed me a miniscule one. 'What about that,' I asked, pointing to the large one. 'Oh, that, just a display model.'
  16. Ok, so in the interest of advancing the field of mathematical equations, here is a brief summary of Hoosier Guy's first 2 laws. War for oil = bad. War for taxes = good. As a socialist I'm disgusted by the hypocrisy.
  17. No, that is beautiful. You should run for office.
  18. Which mission? I've been to Ukraine (kudos for not using the definitive article!) several times, and have extended family there. I served in southern Russia, one of the cities was only a couple of hours on foot from the border. My wife
  19. Most pirozhki don't use meat!
  20. Or at least a messiah.
  21. We believe in a different Jesus, obviously! =)
  22. Are you saying that the king of Tyre is Jesus? See Vort's reply.
  23. Ha. Haha. Hahahahaha. Are you serious? הכרובים (hacherubim) means "the cherubs." The prefix ה (ha) is the definitive article and the suffix ים (im) is the masculine plural form. Very elementary stuff. You keep saying this. I wish you would actually back it up with evidence. So you do concede that it wasn't originally a Greek word.
  24. In the texts where Solomon is refered to as son of David, it is never alone and never used a title. It is an additional description, an identifier of Solomon. Accuracy was crucial in ancient magic. Nor do the gospels depict Jesus as employing any Solomonic methods for healings/excorcisms. When Son of David is used alone, especially at such a remove from the historical David, it usually refers to the Messiah. His reign would provide miraculous healings.
  25. I'm not sure you understood what I was saying. Maureen provided a source claiming that the title "Son of David" was applied to Solomon-like healers and excorcists. I pointed out that the evidence doesn't support this reading.
