  1. Wher does the 10 year figure come from? Thanks. L.H.
  2. I will add my opinion to this situation: Whatever you do, do not do anything to jeopordize your relationship with your husband. Right now, your family is the most important thing in your life; next to the Lord of course. I might also point out that in the early days of the Church, (I don't know how it is now) the missionaries would ask to speak to the head of the household. They would speak to no one else in the household without the consent of the head. They did this because the Church would not advocate the destruction of families. When you said your wedding vows, whether they were to God or to your husband or both, you made promises. Regardless of who you made them to, the Lord will still hold you to it. At this point, the best thing for you to do would be to pray and have faith that the Lord will cause things to work out for the best. L.H.
  3. Hey Red, I must say that it's been nice to have the opportunity to get to know you a little better. You know, hostage negotiators advise people that if they are ever taken as a hostage, they should introduce themselves and share a little bit of their life with the goon. The purpose for this is because after you have done so, the goon begins to regard you as a person. This makes it much harder for them to kill you. I bring this up because I want to point out that you will have a more fulfilling experience here if you take a more social approach (much like you have displayed on this thread so far) as opposed to a "U GUYS R BAD" approach. It is doubtful that you will get any Mormons to turn away from their faith here, but a difference of religion shouldn't stand in the way of being friends. I look foreward to more communication with you. L.H.
  4. I can't think of anything that does not have opposition. Take the internet for example: There is a world of knowledge available through the internet. However, there is also alot of filth and debtrimental material through it as well. In order for someone to have the good that comes from it, they must also assume the risks of the bad. We hear on the news of all of the people who have been gunned down because the media thrives on negative material. But how often do we hear of any of the cases when a father gunned down an intruder or exposed his gun to scare off an intruder in order to save the lives of his family? Almost never. Before we can make a true judgment, we would need to compare statistics of lives lost to statistics of lives saved. But that is near impossible because the good is always ignored. L.H.
  5. I wonder if they would be equally as dangerous on a sidewalk. Perhaps this merits experimentation.
  6. Or how about "disconhookted" I actually heard someone use that one due to a tongue fumble.
  7. I'd never live in Europe/UK because of their welfare system. It'd be so frustrating to see such a large part of my paycheck going to pay for people to sit around and do nothing when they're perfectly capable of working. The idle man shall not eat the bread of the laborer. I also understand that the morals are very low over there.
  8. I'll bet that dude felt very small when he came back and saw the responses to this thread.
  9. Thank you, A.K. and Jason for your insight. L.H.
  10. This is one of my favorite scripture passages. Also the hymn that contains this verse is one of my favorite hymns; 'Truth Reflects Upon Our Senses' I think if more people would live by this principle alone, (including myself) this world would be unimaginably better. The KJV bible we have today has been trans-translated through a few different languages; for example: it was first translated from the original hebrew to greek; then from greek to latin, etc. etc. until finally reaching english. It's easy to see how many things could have been "lost in translation." Especially given the nature of the guys who originally compiled it. In those days, there were different bishops and clergy men teaching their own opinions yet they were all members of the same church. So Emporer Constantine decided that there needed to be unity in their beliefs. So he called all of the different branch leaders together and they compiled the bible. Not the KJV however; but the original compilation. The problem with this is the fact that they had previously decided the general belief they wanted the people to believe and then they included or excluded things so that the canon would fit that belief system. It was later altered a few times depending how the current king wanted it to be; which eventually led up to the publication of the King James version. When I was a child, I was taught that the King James Version is the best one and so naturally I used to think: "What a good man King James must have been." But I later found out that King James was a ruthless tyrant. An interseting point though is that there was a man by the name of William Tindale who got his hands on the original Hebrew text. Being schooled in the hebrew language, he secretly began to make his own translation. Having the knowledge that personal biases went into the original compilation, he strove to make his version as accurate as possible; even going so far as praying for guidance and inspiration in it. However, in those days, this sort of thing was heresy and he was eventually caught, his work confiscated, and he was burned at the stake. Of course this all took place before the KJV was published. In fact the compliers of the KJV referred to some of his work to compile their version. I understand that a fragment of his original work escaped destruction and is currently in the british museum, and a complete copy of his work is held at the Baptist College, Bristol. But you can see by this how satan attempted to thwart the Lord in bringing forth His message to the children of men. Keep in mind, this is my understanding of the events that took place. If I am wrong in any of it, feel free to correct me. Because I hate it when I'm wrong. L.H.
  11. Thank you Dr T. Perhaps I will go stoke up a fire right now.
  12. True, but it also works the other way. We start out by planting the seed of faith; which brings about works. Said works then begin to build on that faith; thus beginning a continuing cycle. L.H.
  13. I have the LDS KJV and the catholic KJV as well as a New World Translation. However I also have a book of the Dead Sea Scrolls, a Book of Jasher, one called 'Lost Books of the Bible and The Forgotten Books of Eden' and a two book set called 'Missing Books of the Bible' Why? What is it about the New World Translation? I'm just curious because I have one.
  14. What is the significance of 3 1/2 years? Thanks L.H.
  15. You are right A.K. The Book of Moses was not included on the papyri. The papyri included the Book of Abraham, and some writings from Joseph of Egypt. I am unanware of what became of the writings of Joseph of Egypt.
  16. I don't know if I agree with the theory that angels mingled with mortal women. I don't believe it has much basis in the Bible. In fact, that doctine is, to my knowledge, only found in the gnostic book of Enoch. The book of Enoch supposedly gives more meaning to the verses directly preseding the flood. This account is found in Genesis 6:2-4 2That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. 3And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. 4There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown. According to Enoch, the sons of God that these verses are speaking of are rebellious angels, and the daughters of men, were just that, the human women. And the giants that are being spoken of are the offsprings of the angelsl and mortals. Then the Book of Enoch tells that God sent his righteous angels to fight these evil ones, and eventually, they cast the lead rebel angel into this pit in the ground. Imediately following this, God floods the earth to get rid of these giants. So I don't know if his theory is all that original as the Book of Enoch was written in about the 2nd century A.D. And I am unfamiliar with anything in the Bible that might give this theory any merit. It is also contained in a book called "The septuigent" which is the Torah translated directly from the Hebrew language to Greek. The Book of Jasher also says "angels" instead of "sons of God" And likewise in the Books of Josephus.
  17. I think it 's obvious Des. We all love you. What would we do if our favorite kitten abandoned us?
  18. No, He's the only one so far. That sounds like a big jump. I can't say that I would agree with that statement. I wonder where he got that idea.Dr. T He gets it from Genesis 6: 9 which reads: These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations,, and Noah walked with God. He pointed out that the word 'Perfect' in this verse is a mis-translation. The actual Hebrew word that was originally there is correctly translated into 'without blemish' or 'undefiled.' So it should actually say "Noah was a just man and 'undefiled' in his generations." Inferring that the other inhabitants were defiled. L.H. I studied Biblical Hebrew and never ran across this theory. The 22 consonants of the Hebrew alphabet represent discrete, unvarying sounds. Alpeh (a); beth ("b"); veth (v); geemel (g); dahleth (d); heh (h); vahv (v); zahyin (z); kheth (ch as in Loch); teht (t); yodh (y); kahf (k); khahf (kh); lahmed (l); mem (m); nun (n); samekh (s); ayin (no sound); peh (p); feh (f); tsahdee (ts); kofh (q); rehsh ("r") seen (s); sheen (sh); taw (t). Maybe he was referring to the fact that Biblical Hebrew wasn't written with any vowel markings, so the meaning of a cluster of consonants depended on context (much like cstl in English could mean castle or coastal). Anyway, it's an interesting theory about the genealogy in Genesis 5. I went back and listened to it again and discovered that I misunderstood. He said that three hebrew letters go together to form a "root" expression. The context of these expressions can vary according to the previous and/or the following expressions. My apologies for being misleading. L.H.
  19. I have a friend who did a chronology of the Earth. According to his figure, Jesus was crucified in the year of the world 4,999. Which means he was born in the year 4,967. This is consistent with the statement in the D&C stating that He came in the meridian of time. Assuming that the romans got he year of His birth right when they made the modern calendar, that would put us in the year 6,973. Which means in the year 2033, the opening of the 7th seal spoken of in revelation and the D&C will occur. Leading up to this time, there will be increasing earthquakes and other natural disasters, as well as wars and rumors of wars. Upon the opening of the 7th seal, there will be silence in heaven for the space of one half of an hour according to revelation and the D&C. This is when the major calamities will take place. Given the time reckoning of this Earth to that of Heaven in the Pearl of Great price, one half of an hour in Heaven is equal to about 20 years on Earth. According to D&C 88, the second coming will follow immediately after this half hour. According to this figure, that puts the second coming roughly around the year 2053; give or take. L.H.
  20. The Doctrine and Covenants is a collection of revelations given mainly to Joseph Smith concerning the guidance and direction for the Church. Formerly known as 'The Book of Commandments' The Pearl of Great Price contains the Book of Moses, the Book of Abraham, and Joseph Smith's history. The books of Moses and Abraham were translated by Joseph Smith from some papyrus found in an ancient tomb in Egypt along with a couple of mummies. These relics were purchased by the Church and the Pearl of Great Price is the result. L.H.
  21. "The evening news begins with the words 'Good evening.' They then proceed to tell you why it isn't.
  22. Okay, wait a minute, are you implying that your words should be considered scripture?
  23. When I was in school, there was a girl who told my younger sister that she was going to bring a knife to school the next day and kill her. In light of this, my mother decided not to send her to school until things could be settled down. When the teacher got wind of this, she threatened to press charges against my mother for neglecting her child's education, even though she was aware of the death threats. My mother asked her: "Can you guarantee that my daughter will come home alive tomorrow?" The teacher said: "No." So my mother said: "Kay then, she will not go to school tomorrow." The teacher remained disgruntled over this but she survived. But the thing that really bothers me is the fact that no disciplinary measures were taken. This girl was never searched upon arriving at school or even sent to the principal's office. And sure enough, when we thought it was safe for my sister to return to school, she went to school and this dilinquent little future felon child had a knife and she chased my sister around the playground attempting to kill her. Fortunately my sister was able to exercise some diplomatic skills and escape an untimely demise; with no help from the school board. So like what was mentioned earlier, our school systems have alot to be desired. L.H.
  24. Yes, that is a very sad situation. The root of the problem lies in the values taught to the children. But since there will always be people who lack parenting skills, you will always have maniac dilinquents who want to shoot up everything. The trick then becomes keeping guns out of these people's hands. True, if these people want to kill someone bad enough, they will find a way. But a gun makes it so much easier. On the other hand, if anti gun laws are passed, then the law abiding citizens will relinquish their guns and leave the good guys defensless; because we all know that the criminals will get them on the black market. Then we will have a situation where the bad guys will have dominion over the good guys. I would sure like to see us find a remedy to this dillemma. L.H.
  25. I rather appreciate Dr. t's questions. By dissecting the topic it leads to a deeper understanding of it. It leads me to believe he's a psychiatrist or something. Is this correct Dr. T? L.H.
