my step brother married a woman older than his mom when he was in his early 20s. She was a grandma when they married, and it seemed strange to us, but they got along very well. I don't see a problem with age differences between 2 ppl, but when young children will be left without a parent because they were born at the end of someones life, I think that's a bit sad.

I worked for Ancestry in the states for a while.........one reason for not finding newer census info could be that those documents are still held as private. The US holds census for 72 yrs to protect privacy. And finding actual certificates (birth, death, marriage etc) costs money. You have to order them from the county or registration office. The same holds true in the US. Finding out what county someone is from can be the basis of the hunt in many cases. Another big reason could be that Ancestry hasn't been able to purchase the information you are seeking. All the records on their site are bought from that country, and not all documents are sold. As I see the New Family Search taking form, I am so excited...one day it will surpass the amount of information Ancestry has, but not yet. Ancestry is the largest genealogy source online, but by no means the only one. One site I really like for a lot of genealogy website listings is About Genealogy - Learn How to Research Your Family Tree. Hope this helps a little.

How does science fit in with our doctrine?
SundaeSarah replied to Nicartos's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
Check with books by President Eyring - he's a scientist and wrote a book about that and being Mormon -
Converting To Lds In The Bible Belt Is Scary Business.
SundaeSarah replied to imported_Ariel's topic in Youth and Seminary
Thank you Ariel for the wonderful conversion story and your testimony. You are a very strong and wise daughter of God. I was a convert, too, at age 19. I"m now 57.......I came from a non religious family. My dad's only comment about me joining the church was 'At least you'll be going to church now". In all those years since, no one has ever asked me a question about the church. I love my family, and do temple work for them, but I do wonder if they will accept the Gospel once they hear it. Welcome to the church.......make friends within the ward and it will be easier when Edward goes on a mission (if he choses to go) and is away from you for 2 yrs. -
Thanks for sharing...........

ALL they will commit to is sometime in 2008..........lol, isn't that the way of everything that's coming??? Soon...............just be patient!

Alas, I live in Utah.............and they have just asked me to teach the Family History Class in Sunday School. I WISH they would wait until we are online with the new way.

here's a link to it on youtube

That's interesting that a whole county would be for sale....I've never heard of that happening. The Community of Christ (formerly RLDS) has it's headquarters there and owns a lot of the church property. If any of our historical sites are for sale, I have no doubt that the Presidency already knows about it. Beyond that, Japan owns a lot of Hawaii, why not Norway owning property here too!

How to Get Names Ready for the Temple
SundaeSarah replied to FamilyHistoryGeek's topic in Family History
go to your nearest Family History Center........they have the programs that tell if his work has been done. They also have people there that can help you get names ready for submission. Right now the Church is changing the way you get names ready and some temple districts are online with that now, while others are still waiting. The new way will take about 5 steps, where the old way is about 15 steps....... -
that is so funny Jason! I"m from Bellingham, WA - the true Northwest......I sure miss that wet stuff here in the desert of western Utah. Can't wait to visit home in April and dance in the rain! btw, today it got to 58* and now it's 27* and a blizzard -- ugh.........totally wierd weather.

Referring to people by surname only
SundaeSarah replied to WillowTheWhisp's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
When I hear it, it makes me cringe. I remember his interview with Larry King - and he called him Gordon! It sounded so wrong. JMHO -
Hi Wendy In the last 2 years I've been to Palmyra and the Hill Cumorah Pagent, Kirtland and Nauvoo and Carthage Jail. They are all such wonderful places. I loved the feel of the Sacred Grove at dusk. No one but us and the birds and the soft rays of the setting sun filtering through the branches........ Nauvoo was a honeymoon stop for us this past Sept. and again, i truly loved the feel of the Spirit there. Maybe we'll be lucky enough to serve a mission there when the time comes. I haven't been to any other places yet, but I"m looking forward to visiting them. I'm lucky that my husband likes to travel and has the time to do so.

I have downloaded many songs online -- Janice Kapp Perry is a wonderful writer. EFY (Especially For Youth - not a group name, but a week long "camp" for LDS kids) have some songs too that are terrific to listen to. I just type in LDS or Mormon for the song search and ususally get quite a few. Some groups I can think of now are Afterglow and Sons of Provo.

Does The Relief Society Still Meet On Wednesdays?
SundaeSarah replied to pushka's topic in Relief Society
i'm in Utah, but our RS meets on Sunday only, except for our monthly or quarterly meeting, where we usually do something fun and have a meal and that is done on a weekday evening. They began last year only requiring 1 meeting a quarter, with the other months activities left to the decisions of the wards or branches. -
After I got my first computer I typed my Patriarchal Blessing in #6 font, had it laminated and keep it in my scriptures- it's the same size as the pages of the regular sized scriptures. I find myself reading it quite often and I still find new insights into things that were said way back in 1972!

wilcomen -- we are happy you have joined us. Wir sind freundlich!! Sally

Congratulations on your decision Nicka -- I also live in a small town ...I"m sure the people in your ward will welcome you with open arms when they see that you need them. Just don't leave your family out of your lives just because they are inactive ...you never know what the future will hold for them.

I retired in May from Ancestry.com -- There is a lot of information on that site, but only if you subscribe to it. It was removed from the Family History Libraries because Ancestry got a new non LDS CEO, and he didn't like the idea that the church had had free access to the site for the past 7 years, so he put an end to it. I don't know of anyone I worked with that liked what he did, but his bottom line is money......... There is also a great website for genealogy websites -- it lists many and it's worth checking out. www.genealogy.about.com

Sahara Motors and Droubay are in Delta

Sundae we are all happy for you.....I remember going to my Uncles house....I was driving along and turned off the Interstate....after about 5-10 miles on this highway...I thought...where am I???? but I kept driving and then seen a sign that said-Oakley??? anyway....I finally got to Delta.....wow Oakley?? that's in Idaho I think..........Oak City is near Delta, but we are 50 miles from Nephi and I-15 and the main highway!! Totally out in the boonies..............and 100 miles from Provo and any shopping :)

Boy, talk about a thread jack -- sorry Pam............ Just for the record, I don't like Delta..........the people are nice, but the town is too small and rural for my taste. I miss the trees and rain and green of nw WA, where I'm from. I hated the 80 days of over 95* this summer(it was over 100* for over a month)....and no A/C either. I hate the flies this time of year, but when the Lord brings an answer to your prayers into your life, and he lives in Delta, what are you gonna do? So I"m here, loving the man I'm sealed to, and enjoying our 8 grandkids and all of their activities. Bloom where you're planted - (just make sure you have irrigation, cuz it sure isn't going to rain!!!) Happy Thanksgiving everyone -- I'm off to make stuffing, gravy and apple crisp for the family dinner.

welcome here Sally......I have an Aunt and Uncle that live in Delta Utah My husband knows just about everyone here, he has coached softball and played for over 20 years here, and it's such a small town. what are their names?
