Do you feel that dreams have real meaning?
Nikkie85 replied to theBUBBAMANcan's topic in General Discussion
Honestly, I think some dreams can hold significance. Just my opinion though. -
When I was first baptized I was the youngest woman in RS by about twenty five years (probably more). When I stopped complaining about not having any friends or being surrounded by a bunch of old ladies I learned so much! Those old ladies are now my dear friends... If you have the attitude of not wanting to get to know these ladies I doubt they are going to go out of their way to be friendly with you. Maybe you could make friends with a female recent convert and you guys could go to RS together. That would maybe make you feel more included and fellowship a new member.

When I went through the temple the first the temple matron told me that wearing WHITE panties between you and the garment is okay when you are on your period...I personally think it is super uncomfortable

Course language in games and movies.

I don't watch anything that makes me uncomfortable or takes the spirit out of my home. I have a picture of the temple in my living room and if I am watching TV and look up at the picture and feel guilty then I know it is wrong. Most PG13 movies in my opinion are inappropriate. -
She should go talk to her bishop so she can start preparing to go to the temple with you. He will let her know the things she needs to do go with you.

I was able to witness my hubby's grandmother be sealed to her parents...It was one of the most awesome things I have ever seen in the temple.

Like Dravin said it is a stereotype. My MIL says that Utah Mormons are like baptists...meaning they attend Church on Sunday but then live like they want to during the week. Needless to say she has no idea what she is talking about concerning Baptists or Utah mormons! I will say though that we have had sisters move to our ward (in NC) from Utah or Idaho and they where in total culture shock. Most of them eventually move back. The Church culture is different down here because you can go your whole week and not see a member of the Church. We have a pretty decent sized ward but it covers a pretty big city and lots of little towns. There is one sister who has been her for almost two years and all she does is complain about how sisters in NC are not as righteous as sisters in Utah or that her girls will have no one to marry because there are slim pickings. Needless to say she has not made many friends! Most of the Missionaries that we get are from Utah, Idaho, or Arizona and for the most part they have all been great.

I am a convert to the church and sometimes I have the overwhelming feelings of having to be perfect. I feel like I am constantly surrounded by women who are happy, have great kids, thin, scrapbook, quilt, go to enrichment and are all around perfect. I grew up in a home that is complete opposite of LDS values and sometimes feel like I don't fit in with anyone. There have been some really great sisters who have encouraged my growth in the gospel and who have really been there for me. I am thankful their example to me and their willingness to serve. It seems to me like you need to take a breather. Having three children and a cheating spouse is super stressful. I do admire you willingness to forgive you husband and I think you will be blessed for it. I would take time out for yourself and if you want to go back to work I say go. I think it would be better for you to be working than at home miserable. I don't think SAHM get the credit they deserve. I hope everything works out for you!

Since I am a convert I will admit that I miss and occasionally crave coffee and tea. In the South we have a drink commonly called an Arnold Palmer half sweet tea half lemonade...pure bliss. I miss going to a coffee shop with friends and talking over some overloaded and overpriced coffee drink...yumm....but I know the blessings out weight the deliciousness.

What Say Ye of Salvation By Grace.

I regret it because I did it for someone else and not myself. He is totally against the church and doesn't really accept my membership. He thinks it is a phase. -

I have always had a rocky relationship with my father who is southern baptist. Before I even thought about joining the Church he told me that I needed to get baptized in his church. I did not really want to do it and now I honestly really regret it. I thought that if I did get baptized in his church then it would bring us closer and he would be the dad I always wanted him to be. I was about 20 at this time and thinking about getting married and I really wanted him to be there. Things did not turn out the way I wanted with my father but my baptism made him feel better. When I decided to become a member of the LDS church my father said it didn't matter because I was "saved". He believes that one most be baptized and accept Jesus to go to heaven. If you do not do these things then you are damned to an eternal hell. I once asked him about people in other countries who might dies without hearing of Christ. With a straight face he said "they burn in hell" I think this is so sad that someone would feel this way. The concept of being "saved" blows my mind. I really don't understand it or the thought process behind it. I am so blessed to know the truth and fullness of the gospel. -
I love Frente cover of Bizarre Love Triangle although I love the version by New Order also. The lead singer or Frente has such a haunting voice.

I am not sure if it was your comment or not. Someone had said that they would never crate their dog. I think crating is a wonderful way to keep you dog safe when you are not home and to help with potty training. I didn't necessary say you wrong I said I disagree:p I live in a rural area full of snakes and poisonous plants which can be dangerous to my dog so I keep her safe in her crate. Plus puppy stealing is very common and I would be worried about Macy digging under the fence. If Macy (my dog) did not get tons of exercise I would think it would be cruel to keep her pinned up all day just like I think it is cruel to have a dog on a eight inch chain at all times.

I hate having a charlie horse! I get one at least once a month or so and they drive me crazy! My calf will hurt for the next few days and be sore to walk on. As for being worse than childbirth I doubt it...I have no clue about arranged marriages. I don't always think they are a bad thing if both parties agree to the marriage.

I am sorry you are having to deal with all this. Church should be the one place where you should not have to deal with drama. I would not let these people affect your church attendance. Since the mother tends to be in the "in crowd" I would personally go to her give her your telephone number and ask her to call you if youth night changes since she knows what is going on. It can be very hurtful to be left out and at one time or another everyone will feel left out. I would recommend letting this go with your Bishop and the RS president. I know it might be hard but I wold just try to move forward. I would pray for this family and go what ever you can to show love to them. The best thing you can do for your "enemies" is show love for them. I know all this is going to be hard and I am not underestimating your hurt feelings. I will agree it was very rude and hurtful not to included your daughter especially because she is struggling.

Dear LDS.net Users, Tampons, baptisms and safety ?
Nikkie85 replied to lizzy12's topic in Relief Society
I think that one is using a tampon instead of wearing one. I have heard that pads are safer...personally for me I cramp less when I don't use tampons. My sister-in-laws swear by the diva cup but I still havent tried it. They are a huge thing in my area and lots of sisters have them in their food storage. -
I love both! We have two cats and one puppy. I love my cats but they only want to snuggle when they want to snuggle. The dog on the other hand is so loving! She is always happy to see me and loves to snuggle. The love a dog gives you back in return is so awesome. I also disagree with the crate comment. My puppy loves her crate and it keeps her safe when we are at work. I think it is sad to see a dog who is always outside and no one ever comes out to play with it or pet it. We have so many dogs like this in our neighborhood and it makes me so mad! What is the point of having a animal that is just going to just walk around in the back yard all the time? We walk Macy every day and go to the dog park everyday so she gets tons of exercise.

I wonder how many cases there really are of a rape victim getting pregnant?

Honestly I love Beck and Rush! I think he is a entertainer and does and says a lot of things for shock value...obviously it is working because we are talking about him here! I also think people are too easy offended and if someone offends you it is because you let them. I tend to be extremely conservative and I think Beck and Rush say things that other people are afraid to say out loud but think. I would agree also though that I do not think it is appropriate for Beck to tell people to leave their Church but if you don't like it simply don't watch it.

Some Observations From The Outside
Nikkie85 replied to InquisitiveSoul's topic in General Discussion
So does this mean you are going to be baptized? By the way I think the the "Joseph Smith story" is beautiful. I honestly have gotten chills when certain missionaries have quoted the first vision. -
I would follow Pam's advise and be an example to your wife. If you guys never read your scriptures or said personal prayers before it might seem a little awkward for her a first. I would simply turn to her and say "hey want to read our scriptures". As you guys get in the habit of doing it that is what it will become and you guys will grow closer to each other as well as the lord. I will be honest and say that I would be very uncomfortable going to church with the same person that my spouse had an affair with. I tell my young women when they are having doubts or bad thoughts the best thing to do is sing a hymn in your mind or repeat a scripture. I think it is wonderful that you are trying to save your marriage and hope everything works out for you.

Even though you have been clean I think that you should take the time to go to rehab. I wasn't sure if you have already done this but I think it would be a good idea if you went to a ninety day program away from you current environment. I grew you with a alcoholic mother who constantly quit drinking found Jesus and then started the process over with a glass of wine. My mom has been sober for a year now but she still doesn't think she needs a ninety day program. I know that she will eventually have a drink at dinner and the process will start all over. If you go to a ninety day program you will learn the tools to keep you clean. After you have been clean for at least a year then you can start thinking about your future. It seems to me like you are putting a band aid on a gaping wound.

Some Observations From The Outside
Nikkie85 replied to InquisitiveSoul's topic in General Discussion
I think you need to clear some things up with the missionaries when it come to how Joseph Smith translated the Book of Mormon. While Joseph Smith was a prophet he was also a HUMAN! I believe that he tried his best to be Christ like in his actions but he was not Christ and therefor could not have been perfect. I recently found out that Glen Beck was LDS and since I love him I was very happy. I think that women are very equal to men in the Church and have just as many rights just not the priesthood. I am female and honestly do not care that men can be sealed to more than one woman. I believe the Church is true and I believe that Heavenly Father loves me and knows what is best for me. I also would not recommended using a South Park episode as a reason not to join the Church
