LOL, Siouxz. Well, here's a couple more. My 1 year old and my 4 year old at the time were in differen stages of learning the language. The littlest one liked to name everything we were doing. She watched me as I cleaned up the floor, putting away big sister's coat and gloves. She commented. "Marta's coat. Marta's hands." My young son disliked flour tortillas, but liked corn tortillas. One difference is that usually I serve the flour ones cold, and I fry the corn tortillas. As I got ready for lunch one day, he checked to see if we were going to have his favorite tortillas. "Are you going to burn them?" Wait a minute, he thought in his little brain. "Are you going to hot them?" Mommy's laughing by now. Try again. "Are you going to cook them?" All right!

Here's one from my friends. "You know, Mom, how you're supposed to run faster than you walk?" observed the 8-year-old, as he watched a televised women's softball game. "It's weird. Those ladies are not running faster than they walk!" [Ouch!] AND The neighbors were building a chicken COOP. My daughter was fascinated by it, and ran to tell me about it, but she didn't realize that the word was 'coop'. She repeated what she thought she heard. "Mom, come see the chicken poop! It's real big!" (Uh . . . I'll pass . . . lol. )

What is the doctrine of the Atonement?
MaidservantX replied to THIRDpersonviewer's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
Thank you thirdperson for this topic. There are so many places I love to sink into the words of the atonement. But the first one that came to mind when I started reading here is: 2 Nephi 26:24 "He doeth not anything save it be for the benefit of the world; for he loveth the world, even that he layeth down his own life that he may draw all men unto him. Wherefore, he commandeth none that they shall not partake of his salvation. Behold, doth he cry unto any saying: Depart from me? Behold, I say unto, Nay; but he saith: Come unto me all ye ends of the earth, buy milk and honey, without money and without price." -

Okay, this is serious -- Music Recording??
MaidservantX replied to MaidservantX's topic in General Discussion
Hymns and really slow stuff . . . . PSYCH!!!! . . . ROCK MUSIC OF COURSE!! ha ha. Actually I'm prolly a little on the pop side of things more than pure rock, but I do like heavy beats -- and you know, whatever I come up with. I like love songs, but I don't like them to drag too much. We'll see. I have created rock music in the past based on bible stories. I don't know why I do that. But in any case, I'm going to start all fresh. Brand new writing, not going to use any of my old songs to begin with. After getting started fresh, I'll prolly go back and re-do my previous. I sing, and do a little keyboard (piano). I don't play guitar or any other instrument. -
I have decided that I am now going to spend some money on music recording software, equipment, etc. for use on or with my computer. I am not a 'green thumb' when it comes to this kind of thing. I know what kind of results I want, but not so sure how to get there. I need it spelled out for me. Although in some sense price is not an object, on the other hand, I want to start first -- like right now -- with only the bare minimum of what is needed. If someone really wanted to get into this with me, they could outline a NOW, you need; then a year long shopping list with what to get each month to build it up. I have an IBM compatible computer with not too much ram (512) but plenty of total, empty, free hard drive space. Would it be good to buy more RAM? I need that spelled out too, and want, again, what would be best, but also minimum. I am almost sure I want cakewalk's sonar unless someone would say that is the worst mistake of my life and wishes to send me in a better direction -- again, a nice basic package that I can learn on. I can build up later. (Although a nice basic package with lots of neat features is also good). Also, right now I am going to work with my MIDI compatible keyboard (that has drum tracks), and my own voice. That is all for now. So I expect I will need a microphone (what kind?). But anything else? Brands and exactly what equipment it is would be appreciated. I expect to record, keep files on my computers for a variety of sharing and web publishing, and also to burn cds (my comp will burn cds); for now anyway. Any tips on this will be appreciated too. Thank you so much!! If you are interested, I'll keep you updated? The X music recording adventure blog, lol. We'll see. But, really, I need help!! And thaaaank you.

I believe in my Father and in the Son, Jesus Christ. I am satisfied with my own pet 'evidence' that Joseph Smith didn't write the Book of Mormon. If God himself made up the stories, it wouldn't bother me in the end, although I might ask a hearty, "Why??" I read the Book of Mormon for what it teaches and testifies to me of Jesus Christ, not what it tells of an ancient culture. I love the Old Testament. I love the New Testament. I love the Book of Mormon. I love the Doctrine and Covenants and the Pearl of Great Price. I love the General Conference edition of the Ensign. And although I might not give them exactly the same weight, I love what I can learn about my Father and about my Savior and about the truth of this life's journey from all the great and good books of the world, and the great and good people of the world . . . :) I received a good number of revelations while reading Frank Herbert's Dune, eh? (Who didn't?)

You should be able to link to "Profile Settings" either from the homepage or fomr "my account" page. Also there is a "How Do I" forum on the boards here, I would read through all of that. Good luck!

I have thought about sentencing and prison reform and similar subjects a great deal as well. I could write a 500 page post. However, I will offer only one tidbit at this point instead of outlining my personal plan of reform. One of the main influences upon a (first-time) convict that may lead to them repeat offending is the fact that they spent time incarcerated. In my humble opinion, incarceration does not, in general, output fine upstanding citizens that have learned their lesson about a big mistake. Rather it outputs citizens that have been trained further in criminality and a horde of other attitudes etc. that one would be hard-pressed to escape in order to become good and keep the law. Another huge thing a (first-time) incarcerated convict will face is the opportunity, temptation and/ or necessity of joining a gang. Once they are freed from prison they may still need ("need") to keep those gang commitments. It would take the effort of a saint to overcome gang commitments, and this person is not a saint, he's a weak, first-time convict. It's something one generally doesn't do alone (leave a gang; possible, not easy or likely). And then as a convict who has been freed from prison you face simple things like getting someone to hire you (a job), a circumstantial influence that may lead some to not make the effort to continue to keep the law. As I said, these are just a couple of points. I think my overall objection to your plan, Traveler, is that I very heartily resist a "one size fits all" plan for criminal justice. More nuance is needed I think for true justice. Thanks for bringing the subject up, though.

What Responsibilities Will We Have As Gods?
MaidservantX replied to Gaea's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
Gaea, You are a daughter of a heavenly Father who loves you and knows you by name. Do you believe this? I hope you do. If you don't, then in my opinion, all other information and ideas in heaven and earth are of no, or limited, value. If you are seeking to truly understand the answers to the questions you pose, you have to begin at the beginning. Would you like to know where the beginning is? Do you really want to know? Coming to know God, your Father, and His Son, Jesus Christ, is an amazing journey. Would you like to begin the journey? (And I'll bet you have already taken some steps. :) ) The answers to the questions you pose can never be understood without a foundation that I am not sure you have yet . . . but we can start if you truly desire. Happy Seeking and God bless. -
Welcome. :) Will you share why you chose that user name? It's cool. I know of a drum and singing Native American group called that.

My mother has done prayer writing. I did it once in the past, and oddly just started a "prayer notebook" again today. For me at least, part of the point is to aid in concentration more than revelation, and also so that I can look back on it and see what may have come from the prayer; and I also want to note times when and how I think my prayers have been answered so that I acknowledge that to God and to be able to bear my testimony about that better to my posterity and to others. I rarely stay on my knees for more than a minute after finishing my speaking; I've thought about doing that, but I am generally not asking for answers, I'm asking for help, and so my help is going to come through my day, not in my mind right after the prayer. I am asking for blessings. But when I am reading and studying my scriptures, after praying that the spirit might be with me, I ALWAYS write my studying, and I know that I learn things (revelation!) better because I am writing. (Similar to what Tomk shared above.) On the other hand, I have had prayers where I didn't say a thing, but just threw myself at His feet, so hopefully, I was receiving during those times. I am aware that prayer is meant to be when I literally enter the Father's presence, so I look forward to learning more how I can effect that in my life, including having a literal, two way conversation in my prayers. I'm sure I have a long way to go.

1st Nephi Chapter 14:10 Church of the devil
MaidservantX replied to HoosierGuy's topic in Scripture Study Forum
The Church of the Lamb is created by covenant and brings us to Christ (among other things, but let me state it simply that way). The only organization that is authorized by God to administer covenants is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In that sense any other system of any sort cannot be (a part of) the Church of the Lamb. Once you have covenants, you must keep them, of course. Just being baptized, but you violate the covenants, does not make one part of the Church of the Lamb. We all sin, of course, and we all need repentance, and we all have the opportunity to repent. But having the covenant, and then keeping it are both necessary. The perception problem that we may have is that I think this scripture is talking about systems. We know very well that very good people (and we are all children of God!) are currently subject to systems that the Adversary and that men have set up (whether they are religious, political, etc). So the systems that are not the strait and narrow, ONE way, are the church of the Devil, I would say. But the PEOPLE in them aren't going to hell, and they aren't devils, and etc. The point of the scripture is to uncover those systems and to warn us, so that as CHILDREN OF GOD OF GREAT WORTH, we can see clearly the incorrect systems we may be a part of and currently be subject to, so that we can make our way to the Church of the Lamb. To state it another way, the perception difficulty -- the work isn't done. For example, I believe that many churches, many preachers of churches (and etc etc etc), also things such as Alcoholics Anonymous -- these are all very, very good things, and I believe that Heavenly Father uses many good organizations and people, and inspires them, that are outside of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. God is leading his children to him in the way that they can best receive it. So in this sense, there could be many good things and systems happening in the world that can be considered the Church of the Lamb -- because the harvest isn't here yet on the whole! But eventually the Father's guidance for each individual will lead them to the covenants that we must make in order to return to him. When the Savior returns for the Second Coming all of the world's systems will pass away and the only system left will be the Church of the Lamb -- but as we know, individuals will still be living who may and may not be baptized members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. So again -- the work isn't done. The Church of the Lamb now? The Church of the Lamb at the Millenium? The Church of the Lamb in its exalted state after mortality is finished? To state that the Babylon of the world is the "church of the Devil" is NOT a statement of an individual's worth. It is a statement of the conditions of oppression and other evils the world as a whole is presently in. The Father loves all of his children and will not LEAVE them in the church of the devil unless they really want to be there. He and His Son are in the process of redeeming us individually, and in the process of redeeming the world collectively. That is how I understand it. I'm not sure I made sense here, sorry :). -
. . . just keep asking your questions, and your Father in heaven will show you the answers. Great care should always be taken in reading the King James Version of the Bible. Sometimes you should go deeper into the original language(s) (Hebrew, Greek). I am not an expert in the Hebrew language, but I have heard that the Hebrew word used in the Genesis account should, or at least could, be rendered plural. It is worth exploring that on your own -- what the Hebrew version of Genesis is, and what it tells us. Also, perhaps a key to understanding both Genesis and Abraham could be found in Doctrine & Covenants 121:30-32. By the way, there are many, many things in the scriptures that seem to contradict each other. The trick, for me anyway, is to stop thinking of them as contradictions, and start thinking that "Hey, I'm learning MORE." or "There must be a secret treasure of learning in that!" I am not exactly sure what you are asking in your post. All of the scriptures testify to us that we need a Savior, Jesus Christ; and that we have a Savior, Jesus Christ; and how to come to our Savior. The rest of the information in the scriptures can be based on how much we are spiritually prepared to know, but it will never be more important than the knowledge and power of deliverance of a Savior. The differing creation accounts, whether they say "Gods" or "God" or have other differences -- it is not a matter of whether they are correct or incorrect historically -- because the creation account is not a history. It is a teaching of the gospel. It teaches us the gospel and it teaches us the purpose of our mortal earth life. It doesn't purport to give every historical detail. Happy Seeking, My friend!

REQUEST TO MODS: Can you pin this thread?? THANKS!!! :) 1. My 16 year old son came out to the living room and asked me, "Should I shave my goatee or keep it?" And I basically said, "I have no opinion whatsoever. Either way is fine with me. Ask someone else's opinion." My 13 year old son was in the room. His older brother turned to him and asked, "What's your opinion?" Younger son: "I want one!" 2. My kids and I watch a lot of movies together. In one movie the main character was ill. When my then 4 yr old daughter asked about it, I said that the man had a tumor in his brain. Later, she repeated to someone else what I'd said -- she thought. According to her, the man had a "tune in his brain"! (Don't we all? ) 3. Eggnog is yummy, yes? My then 3 yr old son thought so. So good in fact that he remembered the taste and the distinctively colored carton all the way from the previous holiday season when he'd been 2. I came home from the grocery store and he spotted the treat and asked, "Can I have some eggwater?" 4. My son was imitating a line from one of our favorite Disney movies: "I'm a damsel. I'm in distress." His little sister replied: "No, I'm in a dress." 5. We have a folk song we like to sing in our house: "Over my head -- / I hear music in the air --/". But I couldn't top 3 yr old son's version: "Over my head -- / I hear music in my hair --". (I'd like to use some of his shampoo!)

PC, You are one of my favorite people ever. You are a great example. I love to know of your faithfulness as a father and a husband. You are fun to be around! And smart. See ya X

I do want to remain sealed to my husband. We have children together, and I want to keep that family union intact. I have no desire to 'break' the family in this manner. In fact, I would rather remain a servant to my husband and children forever, if I eschewed 'queen', than to have absolutely nothing to do with them. And perhaps that is exactly the future I face. I've done enough evil in this world I sometimes wonder if I haven't counted myself out anyhow. However, despite the deep and sacred value I place on our family sealings, I don't really see myself enjoying my hubby's company 24/7 for a million years (and I"m sure it is vice versa). But like I said, I think there is possibility there, if we both continue to grow until the day we meet again. But even more than that -- even if I loved my first husband with all of my heart (which I am fond of my husband), and then married a second husband (so far, fat chance of that that, so) and loved him with all of my heart (all here on earth) -- I should be deeply hurt to 'lose' either one of them in the eternities. But see, I have to believe there is a little more to understand for the eternities. We'll see won't we. In the end the thing that will matter most to me will be doing my Father's will, and allow him to give me the gifts he would like to give me, and place me in the perfect order he would like to place me in. He has my petition and he will do with it as he will.
