And that's what I assume. Which also makes me wonder about the nature of spirit prison? Is it really that bad? For good people who never had the opportunity, is it really a pit of hellfire? I think we make it sound like such a horrible place, but if spirit prison is simply about ordinances, I just can't imagine it as a place of pure punishment. At least for everyone. An interesting point. Though was Alma technically dead? Or was he just getting a taste of spirit prison, not actually being put there?

So even if they had learned of Jesus Christ and whatever portions of the gospel were available to them in pre-Restoration Christianity, they would still wind up in spirit prison because of the lack of baptism and other ordinances? I'm not talking about those who never had the opportunity to learn the Mormon gospel as we know it. I'm talking about those who simply weren't alive at the time.

I want to pick at knowledge of the truth for a minute. It seems to me it's saying that anyone who lived betwixt the apostasy and the restoration would have gone to spirit prison. Which is perfectly plausible. And yet... how much truth is necessary to NOT enter spirit prison? All religions contain some truth, do they not?

I agree with the above. Go to church. Do what you do want to do spiritually until you maybe one day reach that point. It's better than not going. Go get what you can from church. If you're not ready to be the perfect church member, be what you can. If the other people at church were perfect, they would have already been translated.

Deborah, exactly what keeps me from actually getting a tattoo. I'll stick with piercings. One of the weirdest things I've heard regarding tattoos was a suggestion that instead of garments, we have that symbols tattooed on our bodies... To me it defeats the entire purpose of free agency.

That I can, slamjet. That I can. But in my book, you do not take semi-atheist fantasy classics and turn them into Hollywood hogwash without my approval!!!!

I like this idea. I once heard the notion that anything but the highest degree of the Celestial Kingdom is hell and I thought "that must suck". I like to think that whoever has earned whatever degree is satisfied and dare I say very there there. It's an interesting idea. I have difficulty wrapping my head around the concept of a total end to learning. It's foreign to me. So perhaps whatever glory you receive may be it, but that doesn't mean there can't be progression within that glory. I highly doubt this. This, to me, goes against the entire concept of God and goodness. By this logic, someone who was born before/after the gospel during the Dark Ages would be lost to Celestial glory just by chance of birth. It would also go against our belief that works do help us out. The only things that would prevent Mother Teresa, IMHO, from the Celestial Kingdom, are refusing the gospel and failing to get her ordinances done. My grandma liked to say that the last Pope would have been a Mormon save for the fact it wouldn't look too good to have the Pope convert to Mormonism. She was sure that after his death he went right up and accepted the gospel.

Modest Wedding Dresses
Backroads replied to oldfashionedgirl's topic in Young Single Adults, College and Institute
I need to start looking for a temple dress, though I might just rent one for that. My wedding reception dress is very modest, but short-sleeved. -
It just seems a little strange to me that this life is the ONLY time we have for spiritual advancement. What of those who will be given opportunities after this life? Is it possible that could extend into the kingdoms? And yes, this is just speculation.

That Mormon Guy Glenn Beck

I can't. I just can't. I really really really thought his book "The Christmas Sweater" was stupid (apologies to everyone who liked it) and being the bookworm that I am I just can't get over it! And he's just so conservative, but that's after the book thing. I judge people on the fiction they write, I can't help it. Until he denies ever writing that book, I will never like him. -
You Catholics are very famous for it. Thanks for all you do. I think Catholic would be my third choice of religion. If I weren't Mormon, I'm pretty sure I would be some pagan running around in the woods, and after that Catholic. I don't mean that as an insult. That's very high up in my book.

I forgot to mention "The Golden Compass". My Amazon review of that movie with its one star still makes people mad...

I guess I wonder why you would be appalled at our opinions. All Mormons do not think alike. By your logic I would have to automatically like everyone who's a Mormon. -
I am unable to quote anything at this time, but I have heard various ideas from various people that even to hell there is an exit. Punishments happen, but once you've learned your lesson, so to speak...

How can they possible make Percy Jackson sequels without evening mentionin the prophecy?
-
That became a movie?!

Weirdly enough, I've never really had much of a problem with polygamy. I have some cousins who were in polygamous relationships that weren't good and escaped, but the principal itself does not bother me.
-
Only a classic series! How many Newberrys did that woman snag from those books?! Which brings to mind another lousy movie adaption...
-
I see. But should people who practice polygamy without abuse (even against the law) be punished exactly the same as those who do have the abusive conditions?
-
I thought the Percy Jackson movie was okay, but I highly recommend the books, Wingnut. They are BRILLIANT--and I'm a book snob. They made me wish I had taught a higher grade so I could have made kids write reports and insights into them.

It does make sense. I'm not wholy against abortion, but what this man was doing here was truly evil.
-
This was shocking to read. And here I was under the impression that abortions past the first trimester were illegal and also dangerous for the mother. But apparently I'm no doctor. This is SICK SICK SICK!!! I can't get over this. It's too evil.
-
I actually like it. I know Mormons aren't too big on the cross, but I can really appreciate that sticker.

Worst as in terrible or worst as in it had nothing to do with the book? The worst one I can remember is Ten Little Indians. AWFUL movie adaption. As far as nothing to do with the book but still really good The Rescuers and How to Train Your Dragon I remember being really confused as a kid when I read The Rescuers and really confused last year when I saw a trailor for How to Train Your Dragon. Now I like these movies, but they're way off. I actually liked the movie Twilight and movie Practical Magic more than the books.
