Spiritual Implications of Civil Marriage Before Sealing
Backroads replied to ryanh's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
I think that puts the marital status in a decent spiritual position. -
Boyfriend says we're on "different levels"
Backroads replied to harleylds's topic in Marriage and Relationship Advice
I don't think that's the situation. The OP is not saying she doesn't want to repent, she just feels awkward doing it during a transfer process, which is understandable. As has been said, there are situations where a bishop might not want to talk to anyone until they are officially in the ward. However... I think you can beg "unofficial" advice. I can see this two ways: Your boyfriend and bishop are merely saying they are at a different level in the repentance process. True, no argument there. He has confessed, you have not yet done so. Yet if you are sincerely desiring repentance, I don't see how the situation makes your bf any more spiritual.- 18 replies

I (The Cheater) Have a Dillemma...
Backroads replied to twort's topic in Marriage and Relationship Advice
I guess I would like to ask for more information on why you would like to stay with your current wife. You may love her, but it's like a sister and it seems you feel obligated to. That does not sound like a healthy marriage. Can it be healed, fixed, whatnot? Or would you deep down, feel better if that marriage were just over? (I also don't feel staying in a marriage because it's all the other person has is a very good reason.) I think we can all agree you're going it about the wrong way by having an affair, and it's right to suggest the other woman stay with her family, at least for now. -
Spiritual Implications of Civil Marriage Before Sealing
Backroads replied to ryanh's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
This is something my fiance and family and I are kicking around. The way I see it, the object and end result is to be sealed and in the long run I don't see how a bride and groom who first marry in the temple are that different from a couple who after years of marriage get sealed. In the end, both couples are sealed and covenants are made. However, my co-worker said something very interesting the other day which I would like to see some opinions on: Getting married in the temple, if the opportunity exists, would set a certain spirit to the marriage. Now are we talking about marrying in the temple or being sealed? Certainly blessings come with sealings, but I don't think any are lost if a couple is married civily first. I see benefits to both: Civil Wedding: Gets a couple married, does that basic civil job. Allows non-member/non-TR-holding friends/family to be in attendance, which I believe is a spiritual thing in itself. Allows a couple to be together, married, which I certainly believe God approves of. Temple wedding: Gets a couple sealed pretty much right away. Sets a good example. Gets it "out of the way", so to speak (I've a friend and his wife who have been aiming for the temple for years and have said it would have been easier if they had just waited to get married in the temple first.) Really, I think the important part is the sealing ordinances. -
Asked my friend about it... she's done several with, several without, and prefers the natural route because she feels better quicker. Then again, she's very athletic and strong, so she feels her body is set up more for natural birth and admits it might not be the best route for every woman.

Pretty much what it is! Frankly, the BSA hates denying all this stuff. The Scout Law and Oath are taught... you would think Scouts would use their heads. But that's not how it works in our society...
-
So in this case, I don't see how it would really prevent you from entering the temple.
-
Do you have anyone with whom you can talk? Even prayer can do wonders for your feelings... there are support groups all over the place for these sorts of things.
-
Technically, any activity you want to be sanctioned by the BSA requires a tour permit. If we don't know, you can't sue us for anything that happens! We have had to tell wards they have to do things as ward activities as they refuse to comply with our rules... the three-week policy for tour permits in March is going to be such a bugger...

Ha! Some programmers really think about the users, thank goodness. -
Technically not much on this earth life will bar you from the Celestial Kingdom warrenting you are faithful and do the best you can on here--even not going to the temple. I can't recall if anyone has posted the official church policy here. But my personal feeling is that you are either male or female in spirit and changing to correct that can very well be what it takes. Come resurrection, every body will be perfect, as it should be. My question is if this comes up on temple interviews... and I can't think of why it would. If no one knew a transgender was a transgender, how would they go about asking about it?

I don't know if I completely agree that our society is all about doing what feels good. I think anytime anyone is encouraged to do what they want, they are still advised to consider the consequences. Even Satanism in that regard is no longer what it used to be. I think the Wiccan Rede goes along the lines of "If it harm none, do what ye will." It might not be exactly the morals and ethics with which we completely agree, but I think most people are against blind hedonism. I've also never liked the idea that one must be religious to be moral. Morality--however you define it based on goodness--comes from God ultimately, but not necessarily from religious teachings.

Went in for my check-up today. Everything is looking good... except I'm pretty low on calcium. I have nothing against milk, but other than milk on my breakfast cereal and maybe some yogurt later on in the day it's hard for me to be interested. Any other sources of non-dairy calcium that would be tasty?

2nd Graders Having Sex In Class?
Backroads replied to Saintmichaeldefendthem1's topic in Current Events
Speaking from [former] teacher perspective... The teacher has a responsiblity to be in charge of his/her classroom at all times. Chaos happens, but getting to his level is shocking and suggests SOMETHING was not happening on the teacher's part. However, teachers are trained in classroom/education psychology, instructional methods, subject knowledge... and very little in how to do the parent's job of raising kids. Yes, we all get to take a few classes on social skill instruction, but teachers are incapable of teaching the children the ethics and behaviors they need from early on in life. IT IS NOT THE TEACHER'S JOB TO RAISE THE KIDS! The teacher should be reprimanded for letting it get as far as it did, but something iffy is going on at home. -
Should I wait for my fiancee to be able to baptize me?
Backroads replied to saved's topic in Advice Board
Since you're getting married next month... it might be nice to wait for him. I was imagining a delay on the sealings. Depending on your fiance, you still might be waiting awhile for the sealings, but in the end all that matters is that you are sealed. Being the romantic that I am, I think it might be nice to wait for him to baptize you, provided you are doing everything you can to live the gospel save being baptized. However, make sure you aren't waiting just purely out of romance and that baptism is important to you. -
So today I had a woman call up looking for her son's troop number, which I was all too happy to do for her; however I did let her know she can ask her son's Scoutmaster for any information as he would have the most immediate access. Apparently, no one in her ward is sure who the scoutmaster is.

It very well could be missionaries, but just as easily or even more easily have been anyone.

That one was pretty much fantastic!

I do not think altering the body anyway transforms the spirit. You are either male or female. C. S. Lewis put forth the concept that things are either feminine or masculine, and those qualities go beyond anything physical. I am a little confused. You say you are fine with being male, just not with having the body. You also say you wish to be full female. I guess I want to know which is it? Do you feel male or female?

I've dealt with first graders who knew pretty much everything. -
Well, according to Facebook, the case has been dropped.

... my high school art teacher, who was a bishop, if I remember correctly, taught us how to "see under clothes" when we were drawing. The human body is beautiful. I don't think the naked body is a bad thing at all. Satan just made ruined it with porn, that's all.

So far I've loved everything I have read by him, namely the Alvin Maker books, though Ender's Game is a classic in its own right.
