  1. It doest help that the actives don't invite less actives to things.
  2. We don't have enough active YSAs to make a branch let alone ward. We have over 300 YSAs on record in the stake with 30 active at most. I have a few YSA friends in the stake. One in my ward and 2 in a ward I attended when I was younger. The 4 of us have talked and each of us feel a lack of unity among the YSAs but neither of us are YSA representatives. The only time we see any other YSAs are official YSA activities and those who are in our respective units. Outside of church activities there is no contact as far as we can see. What should we do? This isn't going to build Zion.
  3. No I didn't misunderstand. She told her kids that if you miss the sacrament prayer you aren't suppose to partake of the sacrament which of course is false.
  4. Nope. You can tell she isn't. She's definitely just niece, no greats attached. Again, she's a Senior Missionary, her and her husband.
  5. Yeah that's more toward the coast than inland. We (I live in North Carolina) rarely get anything like that this far into the state.
  6. The cool thing is not only will the OPM have Elder Ballard's son as the Mission President, it already has President Packer's niece as a Senior Missionary. She's really nice.
  7. I'll address the 1st part of your question. These are good questions no doubt. To best understand issues like this I feel it necessary to refer to Handbook 2. It contains the policies of the church including on this issue. Because it is from the Brethren and was formed through revelation directly from the Lord it's wording would be the best to use. Handbook 2 21.4.6 Homosexual Behavior and Same-Gender Attraction Homosexual behavior violates the commandments of God, is contrary to the purposes of human sexuality, and deprives people of the blessings that can be found in family life and in the saving ordinances of the gospel. Those who persist in such behavior or who influence others to do so are subject to Church discipline. Homosexual behavior can be forgiven through sincere repentance. Heavenly Father expects us to love everyone because we are all His children. He does not, however, expect us to love or even respect every action man makes. Elder Oaks talked about this also. If you notice in the handbook given by the Brethren it also states those who influence others to participate in homosexual behavior are subject to church discipline. This means any member of the church, gay or straight, who influences such behavior. The church defines this as anything beyond homosexual feelings. Feelings are fine, those aren't sins. Going into a homosexual relationship is taking it pass feeling and is considered breaking the law of Chastity whether the couple is having sexual relations or not. Here's another way that might make it easier: God cannot look upon sin with the least degree of allowance. Our purpose on earth is to become like God. Part of this process is for us to also get to the point where we cannot look upon sin with the least degree of allowance. We need to love the sinner without supporting the sin and without telling others it's ok to do. When we choose to support things that we know are not of God we take a step away from the Savior. I also like to use the Temple interview questions. Number 7 is great to use specifically. It says the following: "Do you support, affiliate with, or agree with any group or individual whose teachings or practices are contrary to or oppose those accepted by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?" You will see that it doesn't ask if we live in a way that isn't in harmony with the teachings of the church. The question asks if we support, affiliate with, or agree with any group or individual whose teachings or practices are contrary or oppose those accepted by the church.
  8. Keep in mind that blessings, confirmations, and ordinations aren't prayers. Prayers are to Heavenly Father, these things are to individuals on behalf of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.
  9. I just got home from the Oregon Portland Mission this past October. The new Mission President replacing President Morby this year is Elder Ballard's son.
  10. They're each for difference things. I have many insights on the scriptures so I simply get made an admin on them. This page is the on I actually started.
  11. I know. I'm an admin for many of them. :-)
  12. Hello my friends. I asked Pam about this to make sure it is OK. There is a page on Facebook I invite each of you to join. It's called Book of Mormon Daily. Every day will have verses from the Book of Mormon. This is so members will be able to read the Book of Mormon daily seeing how we sometimes say we're too busy yet find time to get online. Invite your family and friends to join the page. Make postings and invitations about it. This would provide a great and nonthreatening way to invite your nonmember and less-active friends to read the Book of Mormon. Share it with your missionaries so they may inform the people they are teaching. The Book of Mormon is going forth in all lands. https://www.facebook.com/BookofMormon.DailyReading
  13. It was officially determined as doctrine in 325 AD due to multiple council meetings beforehand. The version of this doctrine used today, the real one not the multiple versions many trinitarian-Christians bring up because they don't quite know what the entirety of this "doctrine" is, goes back to about 381 AD when the Athanasian Creed was formulated. I'm not saying no trinitarian knows what the trinity really teaches but I have heard trinitarians give multiple versions of it; sometimes in the form of modalism. Here are the creeds so you can understand the official trinity: Nicene Creed: We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. Athanasian Creed: Whosoever will be saved, before all things it is necessary that he hold the catholic faith. Which faith except everyone do keep whole and undefiled, without doubt he shall perish everlastingly. And the catholic faith is this: That we worship one God in Trinity, and Trinity in Unity, neither confounding the persons, nor dividing the substance. For there is one Person of the Father, another of the Son, and another of the Holy Spirit. But the godhead of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, is all one, the glory equal, the majesty co-eternal. Such as the Father is, such is the Son, and such is the Holy Spirit. The Father uncreated, the Son uncreated, and the Holy Spirit uncreated. The Father incomprehensible, the Son incomprehensible, and the Holy Spirit incomprehensible. The Father eternal, the Son eternal, and the Holy Spirit eternal. And yet they are not three eternals, but one Eternal. As also there are not three incomprehensibles, nor three uncreated, but one Uncreated, and one Incomprehensible. So likewise the Father is Almighty, the Son Almighty, and the Holy Spirit Almighty. And yet they are not three almighties, but one Almighty. So the Father is God, the Son is God, and the Holy Spirit is God. And yet they are not three gods, but one God. So likewise the Father is Lord, the Son Lord, and the Holy Spirit Lord. And yet not three lords, but one Lord. For as we are compelled by the Christian verity to acknowledge each Person by Himself to be both God and Lord, so we are also forbidden by the catholic religion to say that there are three gods or three lords. The Father is made of none, neither created, nor begotten. The Son is of the Father alone, not made, nor created, but begotten. The Holy Spirit is of the Father, neither made, nor created, nor begotten, but proceeding. So there is one Father, not three fathers; one Son, not three sons; one Holy Spirit, not three holy spirits. And in the Trinity none is before or after another; none is greater or less than another, but all three Persons are co-eternal together and co-equal. So that in all things, as is aforesaid, the Unity in Trinity and the Trinity in Unity is to be worshipped. He therefore that will be saved must think thus of the Trinity. Furthermore, it is necessary to everlasting salvation that he also believe rightly the Incarnation of our Lord Jesus Christ. For the right faith is, that we believe and confess, that our Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is God and man; God, of the substance of the Father, begotten before the worlds; and man of the substance of his mother, born in the world; perfect God and perfect man, of a rational soul and human flesh subsisting. Equal to the Father, as touching His godhead; and inferior to the Father, as touching His manhood; who, although He is God and man, yet he is not two, but one Christ; one, not by conversion of the godhead into flesh but by taking of the manhood into God; one altogether; not by confusion of substance, but by unity of person. For as the rational soul and flesh is one man, so God and man is one Christ; who suffered for our salvation, descended into hell, rose again the third day from the dead. He ascended into heaven, He sits at the right hand of the Father, God Almighty, from whence He will come to judge the quick and the dead. At His coming all men will rise again with their bodies and shall give account for their own works. And they that have done good shall go into life everlasting; and they that have done evil into everlasting fire. This is the catholic faith, which except a man believe faithfully, he cannot be saved.
  14. The next time he goes to the doctor go with him and ask the doctor about having shunts put in your uncle's brain. They are tubes specifically for this problem. I had a companion on the mission who had this. He was born with the same condition so at birth he had the tubes put in and has never had a problem with the hydrocephulas.
  15. Yep. My best friend just got home last week from that mission.
  16. I've never felt a difference in the Spirit when I've used the left hand for the sacrament compared to the right. Although the right is the covenant hand, we still use the left for covenants as well.
  17. Pam is exactly right. There's nothing doctrinal that backs up using the right hand for the sacrament. There's also nothing about it in the handbook. I was asked to help pass the sacrament last week and I was the one who went to the foyer to see who was out there. A family, consisting of a single mom and a few kids, says no to partaking of the sacrament because they got there after the prayer was said and she actually didn't let her kids partake of the sacrament either because of it. She told them they're not allowed to partake of it if you show up after the prayer. There are so many false things said by members about the sacrament. Don't focus on minor and unimportant things. Focus on why we partake of the sacrament.
  18. It's common. Even a cardinal from the Roman Catholic Church has spoken to a body of BYU students. This was about the need to speak up to protect our religious freedoms.
  19. To answer the last question, what does Father indicate? You even said "how do we know he is a guy."
  20. The church doesn't condemn wearing crosses and there's nothing wrong with it. I have a cross. I don't wear it just because it was handed down to me by my father and I don't want anything to happen to it. The problem is when some Christians seem to worship the cross and, in a round about way, believe that the cross itself is saving even though salvation comes by the Christ. Wear it. If someone says something at church, answer them with your feelings on it.
  21. Answer this: did you get married to get divorced? You two argue, you're different people, you don't feel accepted by her family. Congratulations, you've been married for 2 months; you know nothing about it. There's going to be arguing, there's going to be dislike, there's going to be times where you don't want to be around each other. These things are bound to happen. As far as being complete opposites go did you expect to marry someone who is exactly like you? Some marriages have pure opposites. It works out for some people. You say you don't feel her family accepts you. Have they told you that? Did you bother to ask and they say "We don't like you"? You will never know until you talk to them about it.
  22. I had 2 missionary companions who's parents were in this situation. Person A) His parents and 4 siblings. Mom was sealed to another person who died later. The oldest sibling is the first husband's. A's mother got remarried and sealed to the 2nd husband the first husband's kid was only sealed to the biological dad and mom. Person B ) Companion's mom's husband (was sealed to him) died about a month after marriage. She was pregnant with his kid. She remarried and was sealed to her 2nd husband. Each kid, including the one from the 1st husband, was sealed to the 2nd husband. In other words, regardless of any advice and answer you may get in here, you will need to talk with your Bishop, Stake President, and Temple President. As you can see, we never know what happens with these circumstances. Many people wouldn't guess that B's half-sibling would be sealed to the 2nd husband instead of the biological father since the 2nd and his wife have other kids together. The Bishop is entitled to receive revelation, to a degree, for your situation because he is the presiding judge in Israel in your ward boundary. The Stake President because he holds the keys over the temple. Yes that's correct, it is the Stake President who holds the keys over the temple, not the Temple President. The Temple President because he holds the keys over the temple ordinances that go on inside the temple.
  23. This is a situation where divorce is an option. He even said he could be happy if he were married to the other woman. That's not some random on-the-spot answer. That takes thought. If he said yes then he's already had thoughts on marriage with the other woman. You need to get out.
