  1. In other words it's similar to the beginning of Ephesians 1:3 "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ."
  2. Ok cool. But what about the one particular I mentioned in Revelation?
  3. Yea I'm aware of Judaism. As a LDS I just find it interesting with the wording of some of these verses, especially Revelation 1:6.
  4. Exodus 22:20 He that sacrificeth unto any god, save unto the Lord only, he shall be utterly destroyed. 28 Thou shalt not revile the gods, nor curse the ruler of thy people. From how I understand it these verses don't specify whether its false gods or simply other divine beings. Revelation 1:6 And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. 1 Corinthians 8:5 For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,) Psalm 82:1 God standeth in the congregation of the mighty; he judgeth among the gods. Although most claim it's monotheistic, it seems to be more along the lines of henotheism. It seems to at least recognize the existence of other divine beings but makes it clear that God the Father is the one we're to worship through His Son.
  5. A good turn-around question is "Do sectarian Christians worship Paul?" The reason is because you see them quote Paul way more than Jesus. In fact I can't remember the last time a critic quoted Jesus about salvation.
  6. The Deuterocanon and Apocrypha are two different things. The Apocrypha books are considered "hidden" while the Deuterocanon are considered to be a second canon. People interchanging these two words have confused people and caused them to think they're the same.
  7. Exodus 24:7 Numbers 21:14 Joshua 10:13 2 Samuel 1:18 1 Samuel 10:25 1 Chronicles 29:29 2 Chronicles 9:29 1 Kings 11:41 2 Chronicles 12:15 2 Chronicles 13:22 2 Chronicles 20:34 2 Chronicles 33:19 1 Corinthians 5:9 Ephesians 3:3 Colossians 4:16 Matthew 2:23 2 Chronicles 26:22 1 Chronicles 27:24 Jude 1:3 Look up those verses and read them then try to remain 100% true to what you said. The Bible itself speaks of other books of scripture including another letter to the Corinthians by Paul. That would most definitely be considered inspired by God. While I'm sure they, the early Christians, were correct by removing some of the books, I do believe they were still in error. If they had read certain scriptures they considered to be canon they, the early Christian fathers, would have probably included more. You mention the Apocrypha but that brings up another subject: the deuterocanonical books. They're not technically part of the Apocrypha. Its separate. These are the books the Catholics use along with the Bible such as Maccabees. I think PC can verify that.
  8. I notice you mentioned about questioning the strength of your testimony. Here's a question: how long has it been since you've bore your testimony? If you don't share your testimony with others over a period of time then, like a plant that's not given water, it diminishes over time.
  9. No. The Bible was compiled by men who chose what would and wouldn't be canon. The Golden Plates were brought by an angel.
  10. Whether Joseph Smith saw God the Father and Jesus Christ with his natural or spiritual eyes isn't important. Either way he literally saw them.
  11. I'm looking for a particular chapter in Jeremiah that not only speaks of Jeremiah but also of other prophets that warned people of the destruction of Jerusalem. I came to it before but I cannot remember what it is.
  12. Ok so about 2 or 3 weeks ago I had my meeting with the Stake President. What should the mission application, online, say if he's submitted my papers? I'm currently seeing "Recommendation has been submitted."
  13. I never thought of this until the other day and I think it's a question that should be asked. One reason people say they only need the Bible is because it came first although the Golden Plates themselves speak of events that date back to the Tower of Babel (that's in the book of Ether for those unaware). My question is what if the Book of Mormon came to be before the Bible? Do you think more people would believe in the Book of Mormon's teachings?
  14. If you go by the book of Moses you'd be correct Kit. Moses 1:11 But now mine own eyes have beheld God; but not my natural, but my spiritual eyes, for my natural eyes could not have beheld; for I should have withered and died in his presence; but his glory was upon me; and I beheld his face, for I was transfigured before him. Going by this your physical eyes are just that, your own eyes. And if it was through his physical eyes then no doubt others would have seen the vision as well. According to Moses the natural eyes cannot see God or that person would die. The glory of God was granted unto Moses for that time so he could see God through his spiritual eyes. Regardless of you and the sister disagreeing on the exact way it happened she shouldn't have gotten so uptight about that and just realize that both of you believe in what happened in the First Vision. I know I believe what happened.
  15. Something else I just thought of even though it's actually an obvious observation. Jesus is the God of the Old Testament. In John 20:17 Jesus says he hadn't returned to his God meaning he's calling the Father his God. Since the Father is Jesus' God and Jesus is the God of the Old Testament that makes the Father the God of the God of the Old Testament.
  16. 3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Before I've always thought this meant to not have false gods but after rereading it last night I've viewed this verse a little differently. I understand that Joseph Smith taught about the plurality of gods and that popped into my mind when reading this verse. In Psalms 82:1 it reads this: 1 God standeth in the congregation of the mighty; he judgeth among the gods. Psalms 82:1, to me, doesn't seem to be talking about false gods at all. False gods are either non-existent or if they're men that want to be worshiped then those men would be cast down into Hell, not in the presence of God. Also, if they were false gods David, a man of God, would not have called them mighty. I wanted to bring that verse up to help explain my opinion on Exodus 20:3. With that in mind is it possible that Exodus 20:3 is really saying that there are other divine beings but to put God above them?
  17. I was looking up John 1:1 and came across how it would have been written by him. If it was in the language of the KJV it would be like this: INTHEBEGINNINGWASTHEWORDANDTHEWORDWASWITHTHEGODANDTHEWORDWASGOD In Greek it would be this: en arche en ho logos kai ho logos en pros ton theon kai theos en ho logos That translated is this: in the beginning was the word and the word was with the god and god was the word "Ton theon" translates into "the god" while "theos" translates into "god". Comparing languages, in ours saying "God" with a "G" is no different than saying "the god" with a "g" because they didn't capitalize first letters until centuries after John was written. In this verse "the god" would be referring to God the Father while "god" is referring to Jesus Christ. Now to my point on "As man is God once was, as God is man may become." If you use that from the Greek and apply it to the phrase I'm speaking of it's quite interesting and makes a lot of sense. It simply says "God once was", it doesn't say it's the God of all, the Father. So if you use the Greek with Lorenzo Snow's quote then you could imply it says "As man is theos once was, as theos is man may become." And if that were the case then the phrase would apply to Jesus Christ and not the Father. "As man is" Jesus Christ became when he got a body of flesh and bone. "As God (theos) is man may become" when Jesus' followers receive the glory of Christ. Just throwing it out there but I think it's an interesting perspective.
  18. I find it fun to read but then again I find the scriptures in general fun to read. I randomly read a chapter in Alma last night and the Nephites could kick some serious butt in a war. They beat the Lamanites and Amlicites combined.
  19. That's probably the best answer I've gotten.
  20. So my girlfriend mentioned about having a dream where her and I have a picnic. I want to make her dream come true. What are some good foods for a picnic?
  21. Making sure and that sounds about what I was thinking too.
  22. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever I understand it says Jesus has always been the same but in what sense is it talking about since he at least had to go through a physical change by growing up?
  23. And since Lehi held the higher Priesthood that also means he had the authority to bestow the Priesthood on others.
  24. Thanks. When I was asked about why the Priesthood was available in the Book of Mormon the person said they had to be of the tribe of Levi but from reading that I forgot about the Melchizedek Priesthood.
