  1. Well apparently not all are easy to find.
  2. Short? The average height for a guy in today's society is like 5'6". If you're at least that then you're not short. I've been told by decent looking girls I'm ugly and then I've been told by even prettier girls that I look great. In other words, it depends on the person.
  3. If someone makes fun of you for your looks just remind them that everyone is made in the image of God and God doesn't make mistakes. Since we're in God's image and people make fun of others for how they look who are they really insulting?
  4. Don't get me wrong, I don't believe in those creeds at all with the exception of acknowledging God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost exists. I'm a LDS that enjoys history.
  5. Here's an article about this matter: Reviews of The New Mormon Challenge I would also like to point out there are controversies on how long it took God to create everything. If you read in Genesis, yes, it says God created everything in 6 days and rested on the 7th. However, if you go to the New Testament it gives information that could be significant to the creation. 2 Peter 3:8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. One earth day is equal to 1,000 years with Christ. With that being said, there are 2 time-frames we're given as to how long it took for the creation: 6 earth days of work and 1 of rest and the other is 6000 years according to the Lord with 1000 years of rest.
  6. Can someone give me a list of the early Christian creeds? The reason I want to look them up is because I found one creed of Constantinople that actually rejects the idea of God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost being of the same substance so I want to examine the differences in them.
  7. Who gave a talk at a General Conference about the positive of being involved in social networking sites to teach people about the gospel? I need the name of the person and the session, month, and year. Thanks.
  8. We were shown some of John Bytheway's videos in Seminary. He's really good. We have Miracle of Forgiveness which is one of a few books we have that I didn't know including Jesus the Christ by James Talmage. We also have Getting At the Truth by Millet. All of these are great but I still want more. I simply enjoy learning about the church, the doctrines, and Early Christianity connections.
  9. Those are the obvious ones but thanks. I'm particularly interested in books that explain doctrines as well.
  10. I'm interested in books that contain the following: History of the church Teachings of the prophets and apostles (both old and latter-day) Explanations of Doctrines Connections between Early Christianity and the church I'm knowledgeable about quite a lot of this but I want to learn more.
  11. Many will tell you to avoid anti-Mormon literature which is perfectly fine and understandable. That's something I advise to people as well. As far as myself goes, I actually look up the anti-Mormon literature so I can be informed on what to expect from critics. Doing so has really helped me a lot. There are many things I didn't know people criticized so I did my research and have been able to answer nearly all criticisms people have given me about the church. I submitted my papers for a mission this past Monday so I find it important to me to understand what to expect so I can give answers and correction. Another thing, there's no problem with correcting critics. There's a difference between correction and contention. Correction is just that, correcting errors. Contention is intentionally arguing. Whenever someone was wrong about the scriptures Jesus didn't sit back and do nothing, he corrected them without having contention. Anyone that knows me personally knows my testimony of Jesus Christ and his church is very strong.
  12. Get whatever help you need. There's no shame in that. It's good that you know to cut back expenses. Some people would still spend. The church can help pay for things. There's also the Bishop's Storehouse where you can get free food and it's a lot of food. Also, go to your local food pantry. You should see about getting Social Security Disability and SSI for your daughter. She could possibly qualify for both since she has autism. Autism Parent Tips On Applying For Social Security Benefits Since your wife is pregnant with twins you might want to check to see if you qualify for food stamps. All of the stuff with the food would cut back on your spending so you'll be able to get more things of other necessities such as clothes. Do as you've been doing and limit your expenses. Above all, remember to put your faith in the Lord and ask him for help as well and to give you guidance. He is with you and understands everything you're going through. Listen to the Holy Ghost and what it prompts you to do.
  13. What many people don't know is the "As man is..." is not new. It's a Christian concept. In fact, all Christians that aren't members of the church should have no problem agreeing with the "As man is God once was. As God is man may become." They teach Jesus is the one true God. He became "as man is" by getting a body of flesh and bones. "As God (the Father) is" Jesus became when the Father glorified him. The fact that Jesus said the Father is the only true God isn't the point. The point is they in fact do believe in this quote in one form. This one comes from simple Bible basics and a little common sense thrown into it. God the Father is God of all, including Jesus as well as angels. Jesus points this out when he appears to Mary at the tomb and says he hasn't went to Mary's God and his God. Satan was once Lucifer the angel which makes God the Father the spiritual father of Satan/Lucifer. Since Satan and Jesus both have the same spiritual father then yes, that would make them spiritual brothers just as we're all spiritual brothers and sisters.
  14. Yep. Here it's pretty much Bethlehem, Jerusalem, Judah. That would be the location Jesus was born.
  15. I agree. I'm pretty sure that within 2000 years someone will map locations incorrectly.
  16. I understand people have criticized the Book of Mormon about Jesus' birthplace due to the following verse: Alma 7:10 And behold, he shall be born of Mary, at Jerusalem which is the land of our forefathers, she being a virgin, a precious and chosen vessel, who shall be overshadowed and conceive by the power of the Holy Ghost, and bring forth a son, yea, even the Son of God. I read one of the Amarna Letters, letter 290, and it authenticates the statement Alma 7:10 makes. To the king, my lord, say: Thus ‘Abdi-Kheba [king of Jerusalem], your servant. At the two feet of the [king,] my lord, seven times and seven times I fall. Behold the deed which Milkilu and Shuwardata did to the land of the king, mylord! They rushed troops of Gezer, troops of Gath, and troops of Keilah; they took the land of Rubutu; the land of the king went over to the ‘Apiru people. But now even a town in the land of Jerusalem, Bit-Lahmi [bethlehem] by name, a town belonging to the king, has gone over to the side of the people of Keilah. Let my king listen to ‘Abdi-Kheba, your servant, and let him send archers to recover the royal land for the king! But if there are no archers, the land of the king will pass over to the ‘Apiru people. This was done at the command of Milkilu [and at] the command of Shuwardata[... ] so let my king take care of his land! I'll pull out the part that's relevant: "But now even a town in the land of Jerusalem, Bit-Lahmi [bethlehem] by name, a town belonging to the king" As it says, Bethlehem is a town in the land of Jerusalem. Also, go to Matthew 2. Yes, it says Jesus was born in Bethlehem. Where does it first say the wise men went? Jerusalem. Why? Because Bethlehem is a town in Jerusalem. I figured this would be good to share for those that run into people that ask about this subject.
  17. Again, it's not out of context. In fact I found the sources. The Word became flesh to make us "partakers of the divine nature":78 "For this is why the Word became man, and the Son of God became the Son of man: so that man, by entering into communion with the Word and thus receiving divine sonship, might become a son of God."79 "For the Son of God became man so that we might become God."80 "The only-begotten Son of God, wanting to make us sharers in his divinity, assumed our nature, so that he, made man, might make men gods."81 80 St. Athanasius, De inc., 54, 3: PG 25, 192B. 81 St. Thomas Aquinas, Opusc. 57: 1-4.
  18. I found these quotes from early Christians and I figured some people might like them. It seems like early Christianity had a certain belief that Christians of today criticize. I'm sure you'll understand what belief I'm talking about after you read the quotes. Thomas Aquinas, an early Roman Catholic: "God became man, that man might become God" Maximus the Confessor: "He became what we are in order that we might be what He is," Gregory of Nazianus: "I may become God to the same extent as He became man" Basil of Caesarea: "The Holy Spirit aids man in being made like God and the highest of all, being made God." Origen, an early African Christian: "Flee with all in your power from being man and make haste to become gods." Clement of Alexandria: "The soul [which is kept pure], receiving the Lord's power, studies to become a god."
  19. Competitions are good because it gives a person a reason to work hard at something. The purpose is to see who is better at something, not who is a better person than others.
  20. Good for you. Unfortunately, there are members of the church that attempt to justify their actions as well as the actions of their family members. You have the right attitude because you seem to want the girls to wear something modest which is what the church teaches. Considering how you describe the dancing and costumes, in my opinion, they might as well have not said a prayer because I don't believe the Holy Ghost would be at a place like that. By the way, I'm a 20 year old guy. I don't care for these girls that go around showing off what they have. I prefer a girl that's modest. It's unreal as to what some of the girls and women wear today including at church. When I find a girl, get married, and have kids, if we have a girl and she decides to dress that certain way other girls dress today she'd be getting her rear-end popped.
  21. I think many people often mix up salvation with exaltation. They are not the same thing. Salvation comes by the grace of God through our faith in Jesus Christ and as James says, faith is dead without works. Those that are truly saved shall enter into the kingdom of God. Exaltation is essentially being able to reach the Celestial Kingdom and becoming LIKE, not as, but LIKE God the Father and Jesus Christ. While some will be exalted, that does not mean they will be equal to or above God.
  22. Awesome. Congratulation.
