Your bishop has the authority to enforce the standards of worthiness to enter the temple.

Asking you to pay tithing consistently for six months seems to be well with in the bishop's calling on this matter.

If you and your spouse wish to get to the temple I would encourage you to follow your bishop's council

Disagree. The bishop is to make sure his members understand the principle of tithing. And then respect their choice on how they pay or not.
If a bishop sees a zero balance and hears a declaration of 'Full Tithe payer' he might easily assume that the person does not understand until he ask further questions.

Just to let everyone know.. given the new rules this thread is already very iffy.  We are letting it slide for now, but if it turns to the graphic or if we simply change our minds. This thread will go away without further notice or warning.

It can be premature to bring in the Stake President if you have not sat down with the Bishop and said "we don't understand why our four months of tithing are only being considered one payment simply because we forgot to bring the envelopes to church with us." and listend to what he said and the instructions and teaching he is trying to get accross.  Asking such a question of the bishop is exactly the kind of thing a person should do when they don't understand, before going to the Stake President

Once you have that answer then you are in a better position to determine if a visit to the Stake President might be helpful.

The problem with that is that groups that agetate for change don't respond with such things with "oh good we are done now."  Gerenerally speaking they respond with "oh they are weakening lets push harder."

This leads people to conclude that the Church is more lead by social pressure then by the Lord.  People tend to forget about the 'living' part of the declaration of "True and Living Church"  Living things can and do change within the limits of their nature.  And so does the Church under the direction of the Lord through his servants
