  1. What is the best book of advice for Mormons that you have read? I suggest \"hearing the voice of The Lord\" by lund. I am on my second copy because the last person I lent it to refused to give it back.
  2. I wonder what % of the world will b mormon before the 2nd coming I wonder when we will see the lost tribes I wonder what the millennium will b like I wonder what% of the Jews will convert I wonder when the temple in Missouri will b built I wonder what changes will b announced in general conference. My bishop says big changes r coming
  3. In the missionfield, yes they do! In small wards, they are just desperate to fill callings. I had a retarded brother called as a single adult ward rep. We drove him to the stake center for a meeting. He got lost in building and never showed up for the meeting.
  4. For stake callings, it is a good idea to visit the wards around the stake rather than trying to get people to do things by phone. I once had a stake calling in which I was trying to perform the same way as it would be done in Utah. Things were not going well. I drove to the wards 50 to 100 miles apart and found that people had 4 callings, no cars to attend meetings, extreme poverty...no wonder things were not going well!
  5. When you are called for something you can explain that you will be unable to serve on specific days or need a ride to attend out of town meetings. The best time to tell people this is when they call you.
  6. I am so sorry that you suffered in this way. Thank you for generously sharing these wonderful insights. God bless you!
  7. I wonder to what extent the priesthood has always been restricted, to Levites, to white males, to males, in order to make the point that the priesthood is a privilege. Also perhaps to avoid priesthood responsibilities being dumped on an already burdened wife and mother?
  8. Many scriptures suggest that we place our burdens on The Lord. Does anyone know the specific steps involved in doing this? I have read conference talks in which it is recommended that we place our burdens on The Lord but what does this process look like? What are the steps involved?
  9. Just how do you go about casting your burdens on The Lord? Can you break that down into steps?
  10. This is a question, that as a convert, I have always wanted to ask. How do the lds manage to do all the things that they do? Cart 4 kids from activity to activity, hold down a full-time job, read scriptures, and on and on. I am unmarried, no kids and I can barely do it. I quit working Sundays a few years ago and it nearly killed me job wise though I have managed. Still I have friends with 5 kids, unsupportive spouses and full time jobs who teach early morning seminary and still smile. I have no idea how those with kids and both parents working manage to keep going. Any thoughts?
  11. Does anyone have any tips on being mormon? Suggestions: never pray for patience. If you do everything will go wrong. If your Bishop calls you to change your life radically e.g. Get married. Stay calm and say "I will fast and pray about that" Never get into a fight with anyone. You may end up home\visiting teaching them If you are asked to provide meals for a family, lean cuisine is okay If you can't have the missionaries for dinner, you can bring them a cooler of frozen breaded chicken and ice cream. You can ask for an adjustment to your visiting teaching, e.g. Some wards will let you do it without a companion An iPod/iPad is easier to lug around than heavy scriptures.
  12. Not to worry, the sisters take turns teaching lessons so there are at least 4 different people teaching each month. Some are better than others. The level of teaching is bound to improve as the teachers are taking teacher training called, "teaching no greater call". The manual for teacher training is amazing so your level of teaching is bound to improve. In the meantime, I echo those who say "ask questions", you will be doing everyone a favor. By the way, you can bring the missionaries a bag of apples - they will really appreciate it. I need to arrange an escort to have the elders at my home so I bring a cooler of frozen food instead. It would be the same rule if I were 100 years old - better safe than sorry! Hang in there. The lessons will get better - and welcome!
  13. Hi Saints, Am sick at home ...again! Can anyone recommend a fiction book or author? If it is a currently published book, I can probably download it from my library. Am hoping for no explicit sex or violence! No F words! Surely there is some fiction left that a saint can read. Hoping to hear from you!
  14. TO CHURCH: Thank you very much for this practical and comprehensive reply. This is information that I can use!
  15. Does this actually work for you? I mean praying about a decision that you have pondered over. I get many false promptings and thus have made many bad decisions. I have given up on following what seems to be revelation.
  16. Some people arrive at church while the first hymn is being song and take off right after the closing hymn. You can sit in the lobby and they will bring out the sacrament. You can always say that you have allergies to perfum or that you suffer from migraines. Use a strategy that will allow you to take the sacrament. Taking the sacrament will make your life better. Your vts & hits may just be slackers. Most people in my ward do not do their home/visiting teaching!
  17. I have never understood what faith is. I read Ensign stories about people who give up their jobs because the job requires working on Sunday. This is labelled faith. I also read of people who have children while attending med school. This is also labelled faith. So is faith obeying commandments even if doing so seems foolish? I could do more church things if I spent fewer unpaid hours of overtime but I would displease my employer a great deal. Some of my colleagues would devote a lot of energy to punishing me. How do you decide when you have given enough to the church in terms of time? I have one calling but I turned down an additional calling because I just can't manage it with work. I never know how much is enough to give The Lord.
  18. I get into bed and listen to general conference. I get a detective novel from the library. I do things for people eg when it is raining I carry an extra umbrella and give one away. I walk a friend's dog. I hug a stuffed animal. I call one of the older ladies in the ward.
  19. What r u going 2 do with the metal mill?
  20. I have had this problem. I eat something very plain like brown rice. No entertainment value in brown rice!
  21. What is so great about Navoo? I have seen pictures of the temple, very beautiful, amazing history. Is the temple the attraction?
  22. A metal mill? First, what is it? Second, why?
  23. If a geni were to offer you 3 wishes, what would they be? 1) I wish global warming would hit My town in a big way. 2) I want my ward to have its very own pageant 3) I want Boyd K Packer to give a conference talk in my ward
