  1. Please pray for a quiet, peaceful passing for my uncle.
  2. One family member, a bossy aunt-not my mom, did interfere. From conversations I know my uncles wife is stressed. The hospice care center he is in has provided less than high quality care. At times my aunt (my uncle's wife) seems angry, panicked and overwhelmed. She can get snippy. I know this is just how she is grieving. When I look at the situation, I know I could react the same way in the same situation. My gut instinct, which I believe comes from the Spirit, tells me my aunt needs to know we are coming. There should be no drama during this situation. Just peace, cooperation and love. How do I get my mom to see we need to tell my aunt?
  3. My uncle will be passing away very soon- 1 to 2 weeks. He has brain cancer. My mom went to see him a couple weeks ago. She has asked me to take her to see him again in a few days. He lives several states away. The problem is, his wife is feeling very stressed out, but also seems very afraid that people will interfere with his care. Mom is afraid that if she tells my aunt we are coming down that she will say no and tell us to stay home. I think she needs to tell her we are coming. I don't want to cause my aunt stress, but I also understand my mom's need to see him one more time. Should I tell my aunt we are coming or insist my mom does? Or should I just do as my mom asks and take her without my aunt knowing till we get there?
  4. If you read it be prepared to cry and have your heart broken.
  5. I thought she said LDS or religious authors. :)
  6. I feel appropriately small, but not in a bad way. I feel awe and reverence because of God's great power, holiness and love. It amazes me to think that the Creator of all things loves me so much that He sent His Son to to pay for my sin. I feel special and loved beyond measure to know that this great God knows the number of hairs on my head and has my name graven in His hands. (LK 12:7, IS 49:16). God can have anything He wants. Yet, for some reason He desired me! I see all my imperfections, my limited understanding, etc... and yet He loves ME! (Rom 5:8). It makes me feel loved, cherished, protected, secure... It is the most amazing feeling! Read this Psalm. Psalm 139King James Version (KJV) 139 O lord, thou hast searched me, and known me. 2 Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. 3 Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways. 4 For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O Lord, thou knowest it altogether. 5 Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me. 6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it. 7 Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? 8 If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. 9 If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; 10 Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me. 11 If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me. 12 Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee. 13 For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb. 14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. 15 My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. 16 Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them. 17 How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them! 18 If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee. 19 Surely thou wilt slay the wicked, O God: depart from me therefore, ye bloody men. 20 For they speak against thee wickedly, and thine enemies take thy name in vain. 21 Do not I hate them, O Lord, that hate thee? and am not I grieved with those that rise up against thee? 22 I hate them with perfect hatred: I count them mine enemies. 23 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: 24 And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
  7. Dale Cramer Karen Kingsbury Janet Oke (I added her because my daughter loves her books- I could do without them) Francine Rivers Jan Karon Debbie Macomber Lauraine Snelling I would also like to add Jeff Shaara. His books do have some language and violence but they are very accurate works of historical fiction. They are fascinating and give a deeper understanding of American history. If you love Irish history a must read is The Graves Are Walking by John Kelly- keep a box of kleenexes next to you as you read.
  8. God is loving and just. Because of His justice and holiness there needs to be a punishment for sin. God's love and mercy is the reason why He sent His Son- Jesus came to pay the punishment for our sin. People can accept Christ's payment for their sin or reject it. God isn't going to force people to accept a gift they don't want. If people reject Christ's payment of their sin- they have to take the punishment for it- hell. Anyone- (I believe only JW's believe Heaven is limited to a certain number) who, by faith, accepts Christ has their sin paid for and will go to heaven. I anticipate your next thought: "But then people can sin all they want and get into heaven!" Then I will ask you to read Romans to understand how the Spirit leads us and how we are a new creation and how we serve a new master..
  9. Yeah, you're off base. We are not God's play things we are His beloved creation. He loved us so much He sent His son to pay for our sin. He rejoices when we come to Him and grieves if we choose not to .love Him. I think you don't get the depth of love we believe God has for us. It is an all encompassing, eternal love for us as individuals. We are adopted as His children when we put our trust in Him. John 1:12, "But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:"
  10. From a born again Christian perspective: 1. There is only one God. He has always been God, there are no gods before Him and there will be none after Him. 2. He is and has always been omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent. 3.He created all things by His power. 4. He is and has always been holy, merciful, just, and loving. 5. He is faithful, He is unchanging 6. He created us for His pleasure- He wanted to create and love us. (4:11) Ok, that is some basic theology. If you like I can post the supporting verses later. You also need to know that as Christian, God is everything. He strengthens me. He is with me always. He loves me always. He gives me security and hope. I can always go to Him. He is a perfect Father. He desires my love and worship. His Word tells me that no one or nothing can separate Him from His love. He is my constant. Even when I have been through unbelievably hard trials I have had hope because I know that He is there and will always be who He says He is. I look forward to being in His presence in heaven. He has been preparing a place for me. He took 6 days to create the earth-a pretty cool place. But, He has spent more than 2000 years preparing a place for those who love Him. I can't even imagine how amazing it will be.
  11. Praying for a quick recovery, physically and emotionally.
  12. Thankfully the cars, siding and roof were ok. I think we were protected because of the angle and size of our house is in relation to the house next door. And yes, hail that big does bounce- not for as long as a ping pong ball, but it does bounce. I posted a picture below. That wasn't the biggest one, but it was the only one I was brave enough to reach.
  13. We just had ping pong ball size hail.
  14. Love it! Wish I could multi-like it!
  15. Jesus taught that we ought to obey God rather than man. I believe Jesus would condone buying food on the black market. It says in 1 Tim 5:8, "But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel." Jesus would definitely not turn in Jewish neighbors. He wouldn't lie- He would just refuse to tell and take the consequences of not telling.
  16. Spending all day outside exploring without adult supervision. We were sent out to play and we came home for lunch and dinner. We had fun. We never thought of danger. I feel so bad for kids now. It's all structured activities or video games. Spontaneous play and exploration seem to be a thing of the past.
  17. I hope the situation IS fake. If it isn't there is a family and a ward with major issues. Unfortunately there are people who like to play off of perceived "peculiarities" of the LDS and try to cause trouble. It is terrible because it gets in the way of honest communication and learning. I have grown from animosity to love towards Mormons in my months here. Not that I'd ever convert- I just have a greater understanding and appreciation for them as individuals and I can't wait for my hubby to find a job in Utah.
  18. These situations are sad all around. All I can say is "...Even so, come, Lord Jesus."- Rev:22:20 Someday we will be free from the world and the sin in it.
  19. Sometime people who have been assaulted try to make light of it to convince themselves what happened to them wasn't that bad. Some victims of sexual abuse become promiscuous because they think if they can devalue sex then they can make what happened to them feel less painful. - just a bit of observation from my social work days...
  20. You need to find out why the interviews bugged her so much that she felt she needed to react so. Also, I am surprised there is no policy about having at least 2 adults present when dealing with minors. I know most church insurance policies now state that an adult worker cannot be alone with a minor. For the church's and the bishop's protection, as well as the protection of children, such procedures are needed. It's a sad commentary on society that we need to do this.
  21. Look for scholarships offered by professional associations in your field of study/future career. You can also see if there are scholarships for people with disabilities like yours from organizations specific to your disability.
  22. Brie with apple or pear slices. Or, Brie with strawberry preserves and unsalted crackers.
  23. Hubby is looking for a Utah job and I have to learn how to live a life without hockey, How do you survive?
  24. Maybe if you loved and respect him he would see that he is worthy of love and respect and he would treat his body with respect and love. MY sis in law treats my brother the way you describe and he gets to feeling so worthless and hopeless because of it that he eats even more. I have been happy married for more than two decades and I have learned that a man will do anything to please you if they know they are loved, adored and treated as the most special person in the world.
