  1. I think one of the MOST important ways men can magnify their preisthood is my making sure they are humble, teachable and that they do not use dominance or thier priesthood as a prideful thing, meaning that they believe themselves superior to women, or other men without the preisthood. Also that they keep temple covenants.
  2. Im australian. I went to middle school in america however, and had to do an american history class. It is the only class i have ever failed in my life. I didnt even know the names of all the states, where they were, i didnt know the difference between the civil and revolutionary wars, i didnt know who wrote the constitution and had never heard of the bill of rights. Learnt alot, but now i'm back in australia its all pretty useless really. I bet if i gave you guys a test on asutralian history you would all fail miserably.
  3. what is wrong with playiong the piano? I think it has a purer sound. Can't you use either? What situations do you absolutlely HAVE to play the organ instead of the piano? In our chapels we have both, but most of the time we just have piano during our sacrament meetings. I hate really vibrating sound. I guess organs are good if it is a special occassion, or if it is the huge organ in the conference centre, where you have a large choir as well. Like i said, i prefer the piano.

  5. graham norton he is a talk show host in the UK. I watch him on cable sometimes. He is very funny, but occaissionally gets crude and i have to change channels...
  6. I'm pretty sure this is ok to talk about because they show it to people who are going through the temple open houses. I like how as you move through the temple, there are different levels and the lighting gets brighter. The highest and brightest room is the celestial room.
  7. I've only ever seen long sleve temple dresses. The neckline has to be high as well, and it has to be minimal embroidery, if any. A cotton dress sounds good. I wonder why they havent done any already? One time when kneeling doing sealings i almost passed out from the stifling heat!
  8. poor Yed, thats why i dont go to that other forum anymore... I have deleted it from my bookmarked sites, and only come here now. Its a much nicer environment.
  9. This is interesting to me... i sometimes get sick of my MIL asking my husband for blessings. Most of them say exactly the same thing. What comfort is there in redundancy? What difference is there between a blessing given yesterday and one given today? I'm not saying that the priesthood can be overused... but i dont think people should keep asking for blessings for these reasons 1) getting blessings until they get the answers that THEY want 2) The priesthood is sacred and we should spend a few days contemplating what each blessing means, not getting another one the next day I think there are other ways to receive comfort that you can do everyday. Praying, Reading scriptures, obviously, also fasting, paying tithing and fast offereings, going to the temple as much as possible, putting your name on the temple prayer roll. Re-reading your patriachal blessing, readin the ensign, or other uplifting books and magazines.
  10. 3 And because my words shall hiss forth—many of the Gentiles shall say: A Bible! A Bible! We have got a Bible, and there cannot be any more Bible. 4 But thus saith the Lord God: O fools, they shall have a Bible; and it shall proceed forth from the Jews, mine ancient covenant people. And what thank they the Jews for the Bible which they receive from them? Yea, what do the Gentiles mean? Do they remember the travails, and the labors, and the pains of the Jews, and their diligence unto me, in bringing forth salvation unto the Gentiles? 5 O ye Gentiles, have ye remembered the Jews, mine ancient covenant people? Nay; but ye have acursed them, and have hated them, and have not sought to recover them. But behold, I will return all these things upon your own heads; for I the Lord have not forgotten my people. 6 Thou fool, that shall say: A Bible, we have got a Bible, and we need no more Bible. Have ye obtained a Bible save it were by the Jews? 7 Know ye not that there are more nations than one? Know ye not that I, the Lord your God, have created all men, and that I remember those who are upon the isles of the sea; and that I rule in the heavens above and in the earth beneath; and I bring forth my word unto the children of men, yea, even upon all the nations of the earth? 8 Wherefore murmur ye, because that ye shall receive more of my word? Know ye not that the testimony of two nations is a witness unto you that I am God, that I remember one nation like unto another? Wherefore, I speak the same words unto one nation like unto another. And when the two nations shall run together the testimony of the two nations shall run together also. 9 And I do this that I may prove unto many that I am the same yesterday, today, and forever; and that I speak forth my words according to mine own pleasure. And because that I have spoken one word ye need not suppose that I cannot speak another; for my work is not yet finished; neither shall it be until the end of man, neither from that time henceforth and forever. 10 Wherefore, because that ye have a Bible ye need not suppose that it contains all my words; neither need ye suppose that I have not caused more to be written. 11 For I command aall men, both in the east and in the west, and in the north, and in the south, and in the islands of the sea, that they shall write the words which I speak unto them; for out of the books which shall be written I will judge the world, every man according to their works, according to that which is written. 12 For behold, I shall speak unto the Jews and they shall write it; and I shall also speak unto the Nephites and they shall write it; and I shall also speak unto the other tribes of the house of Israel, which I have led away, and they shall write it; and I shall also speak unto all nations of the earth and they shall write it. 13 And it shall come to pass that the Jews shall have the words of the Nephites, and the Nephites shall have the words of the Jews; and the Nephites and the Jews shall have the words of the lost tribes of Israel; and the lost tribes of Israel shall have the words of the Nephites and the Jews. 14 And it shall come to pass that my people, which are of the house of Israel, shall be gathered home unto the lands of their possessions; and my word also shall be gathered in one. And I will show unto them that fight against my word and against my people, who are of the house of Israel, that I am God, and that I covenanted with Abraham that I would remember his seed forever- 2 Nephi 29: 3-14
  11. I am paying for my part of the trip. I have decided to go. Mainly because the ticket is non-refundable. Also because i need the spiritual experiences that happen at general conference. Thank you for your opinions...
  12. weasley is my king too I loved the last book, especially the bit where ron says he is worried about the house-elves and hermione.... well, you know! I hope you enjoy this board
  13. I love Wildlife science and biology, i am so envious of you. Welcome to the board
  14. I don't know who said it, but some time a go i read that someone said that true science and true theology are the same thing.
  15. Theoretically, what would happen if HF didnt answer your prayers, (for whatever reason). What if Fred hadnt sprouted? What if you have jumped into the darkness and not been caught? What if horrible, awful things have happened to you, and you are angry at God for not helping you? How do you have faith when you cannot feel the spirit because of an illness? (and lets not argue this point, i know its true, because it has happened to others i know, not just me)
  16. I've been reading through this and was reminded of my mother-in-laws recent spiritual 'experience'. She was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, and went on to go to many different doctors, trying all sorts of natural therpaies, completely changing her diet, and excersising nearly everyday. She became much healthier, but also spent a fortune on gimmicks and quick-fixes. As a good church member, she also went to the temple, fasted and prayed about what to do in her condition. She opened the scriptures in the celestial room to the Word of Wisdom in the Doctrine and covenenants (section 89). She thought 'i already know this! but she went ahead a read it anyway. It says something in there about all grains being for the good of man. And she took it at face value, and has included whole grains (mainly going on about wheats many benefits) in pretty much every meal since then. That, however is not what i have a problem with, my problem is that she goes and preaches it in sacrament meetings, releif society meetings, and talking to people at church in general. It is common sense, i thought, but she is taking it over the top. One kind sister in her new ward (she is no longer in my ward, thank goodness) asked her to please think about what she is saying, and how can someone who is gluten intolerant or who has cealic disease eat wheat? MIL was so wrapped up in her own 'revelation' that she just answered by saying that true whole wheat has hardly any gluten and that they could eat it if they wanted to (now thats typical ignorance on my MILs part) I am not hitting on people who eat whole grains by the way, i store and use whole wheat regularly myself. The point of the story is how people can take an individual experience and think it is right and applies to everyone, and it doesnt. (i gt a bit passionate about this, i dont really like my MIL)
  17. Its good to hear that a high council member also has some queries about the gospel. Isaiah is one of my favs also. Welcome to this site.
  18. I can pick out a tune right handed only, and have memorised how to play a few songs (Pachbels canon) with both hands! other than that, he knows how to play a few chord of the quitar, but we are both hopeless singers (he is worse than me, however, sometimes when he singds a song i recgnise the lyrics, but have no idea what tune he is singing) I dont want to be rude HiJolly, but i try not to meet people i meet on the internet. I like to keep it anonymous, that way i feel i can be more open and vulnerable, because i dont 'know' the people. I hope you understand. Of course its different if i knew you and then kept the relationship going through the internet. Thank you for the offer though. B) I really will do it next year, and that way i would have more say in the planning of it, and stay where i want to, go where i want to, and see who i want to see. I am getting inclined to not going. I am still thinking and praying however, because i dont want to make a rush decision.
  19. Thank you for the compliments, its a hard thing for me to be a parent. I am only 22 and have 3 stepkids, two girls, 12 and 10 and an 8yr old boy. I also had a baby last december. I have suffered from depression before and after i got married as well, so things are difficult that way also. So compliments like this mean alot to me.
  20. I havent got the general conference tickets yet. They tell me they do international tickets by saving them for people, somehow, i dontg really know, my parents were going to handle all of that. I have been thinking lately that i would rather wait and just do it next year when i am feeling a bit better and go with my husband. Maybe just for 2 weeks and have my mum look after the baby and have the stepkids looked after their mum and my mother-in-law. I still am undecided and would like more opinions... puh-leeze?
  21. Mary was a virgin, most beautiful and fair above all other virgins, 1 Ne. 11: 13-20 The question is, is this literal beauty or is it in reference to her purity?
  22. I love singing in the rain! Here is a good one i saw on ellen i thought you guys might enjoy. Its crazy because he does it in one take.
  23. It sounds like you need to have a good sit down talk with your husband and say... "did you put you hand up when you sustained me in my calling as such-and-such? Do you know what sustaining is?" Let him answer the question and then point out to him what he is doing. (in a kind way, of course) By the way, sustain comes from the Old French word sustenir meaning, hold up, endure and support. (sub meaning 'up from below', and tenere meaning 'to hold')
