Scattered reports are indicating that the guy was known to have PTSD *and* was known to be self-medicating, something that was making his condition worse. ...And yet nobody did a thing about it. He and the deceased were reportedly indulging in mind-altering mushrooms during an internet live stream the same night as the incident. Yeah.

Free speech on campus and the Democrats who hate it.

In reference to my earlier comments... http://www.denverpost.com/2017/05/15/mesa-county-coroner-ids-heather-anable/ The suspect is better known to the larger YouTube community as... "The Feminist Skeptic". The deceased? One of two women he was in a poly relationship with. Yeah.

More woes for Marvel. Black Panther? Massively popular. Luke Cage? Massively popular. Storm? Still popular despite not having been in the movies lately. All three in a comic book in which they take on robot cops in Harlem? Cancelled after only two issues. https://heatst.com/entertainment/marvel-cancels-ta-nehisi-coates-black-lives-matter-comic-due-to-poor-sales/ . One would think that the story itself is the reason why everything failed given that these are popular characters, but it's easier for Marvel and its supporters to blame racism.

Basically folks, if you want to make it as a writer you need a pretty thick hide. If any of the writers who are getting upset by what they're reading here on Mormon Hub would like to talk with me directly about this, I'll carve some time out to make it happen.
-
If what's here at Mormon Hub is upsetting, then people would probably keel over should they read some of the hostile reactions I've gotten to some of my stuff. Folks, I was actually gay-bashed for assigning a positive rating to one movie Hollywood wanted to see buried and accused of outright racism & sexism for assigning a negative rating to a film that was Hollywood's "darling".

"The Circle" As a demonstration of how cult-like thinking can enter into even secular environments, it's perfect. Too bad it's supposed to be a "sci-fi thriller".

For those who aren't familiar with internet culture, let me explain: To call Buzzfeed "gutter trash" would be to insult gutter trash. Over the last little while Buzzfeed's been pushing a social justice narrative that is so astoundingly divorced from reality that they're being even more racist, sexist, and bigoted than the people they've been attacking. If you're not one of their "allies", then you're a target just for drawing breath. The "skeptic" and "anti-SJW" communities on YouTube regard them as low-hanging fruit because of how absurd they are and how easy their claims are to debunk, and quite frankly a lot of us who are familiar with Buzzfeed's antics are laying odds on how long it'll be before they go the way of Gawker. Remember folks - I dumpster-dive the internet so you don't have to.

Basically, the deeper you dig into Western feminism, the more of a cesspit it becomes. Too many figures at the top are corrupt to the core, and too many rank-and-file are Tumblr princesses or special snowflakes who don't understand life outside of their bubble.
-
It depends upon who you're talking about and what you mean by "hardcore". Many of the more prominent voices I've seen who stand in opposition to Western feminism are focusing on the sins of the movement and its key figures, the goal being to expose the corruption, ignorance, and even outright gender supremacy that many of them display. If it says anything, it's pretty much taken for granted that anyone who claims to be a "male feminist" is either afraid of women, hoping it'll help them meet women, or a wolf in sheep's clothing... simply because that's been the case for so many of them over the years. That's how bad the movement is. And when we get to ladies like Kristi Winters, all bets are off. There's more evidence to suggest that she was behind the doxxing of one of her major critics than there is to suggest a Trump / Russia conspiracy, for crying out loud.
-
Considering how often I crossed paths with Kristi Winters herself back on Beliefnet, I find myself rather bemused by the notion that anyone can think feminism as is practiced in the West is anything but a gender supremacy movement.

Senate Votes to Require Women to Register for the Draft
Ironhold replied to a topic in General Discussion
From what I understand of things, about half the people who were pushing for this were doing it to force the end of the draft, while the other half felt that since women now had equal rights they should face equal responsibilities in ensuring those rights. As one can imagine, the latter had a number of "feminists" screaming their lungs out. -

I'm hearing whispers that he's already been blacklisted by the art community in Indonesia for bringing negative international attention to the country and its internal politics.

https://www.bleedingcool.com/2017/04/08/marvel-artist-ardian-syaf-hid-anti-christian-jewish-messages-weeks-x-men-comic/ Marvel Comics is dealing with the public relations fallout after it was determined that Indonesian-born artist Ardian Syaf hid anti-Jewish and anti-Christian material in an issue of "X-Men Gold". Although one item should realistically have stood out enough to make the editors ask questions, nobody else at Marvel knew about it until a number of people - including folks from Indonesia - began contacting them and the artist directly through social media to point it out. Marvel's trying to whistle past the graveyard on this one, but the artist has made no apologies and has even encouraged people to buy more issues. Oy.

How to deal with church critics and apostates?
Ironhold replied to Mormonheart's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
I'd check to see if the book has any sort of stamps or markings. In some instances, particularly brazen churches will stamp or mark the tracts and books they give out to "save" people so that people will know who's distributing them. It's done in the hopes of getting the people who read the tracts to come to that church and start worshiping. If there's such a stamp or marking on the book, let your bishop - and the police - know about it. They in turn can contact the church where the book originated from and have a chat with the minister about what's being done in the church's name, whether it's sanctioned or not. Society rather frowns on people who advocate the sort of disruptive behavior you've been seeing, so if the minister is sanctioning or even advocating this sort of behavior then they've got some explaining to do.- 53 replies

Can watching rated R movies keep you from a temple recommend?
Ironhold replied to a topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
Speaking of "Jersey Boys"... Yes, it's a docu-pic about Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. Yes, it's rated "R". ...For cursing and smoking. The MPAA actually has hard-and-fast rules concerning how often a certain curse word can be used in a film based on rating. "Jersey Boys" exceeded things by such a significant margin, making it the primary source of the "R". And smoking? About 20 - 25 years ago, there was a push to have all films that depicted smoking being given an "R" rating just because. This push failed when people realized that "101 Dalmatians" would have to be retroactively assigned an "R" rating because some of the characters smoked, but the MPAA still takes into consideration how often people smoke in a work. Yes, I'm surprised by that as well. So yeah - it's "R" because of cursing and smoking. If the cursing and smoking were sanitized from the film, it'd have gotten a PG-13; a little more sanitizing would have gotten it a "PG". Believe it or not. So while the MPAA ratings generally *are* a good benchmark as to what you can expect from a film, it's not as entirely hard-and-fast as one might think.
