I would go talk to your stake president and let him know what is going on. If your husband answers all the temple recommend questions in the correct way your bishop has no right to take away his recommend. If I remember right there is no question that says "Do you play sports on Sunday?" If you are trying hard to make it to your meetings when you can then there is no problem. There have been some great LDS atheletes that kept their testimonies strong when having to play on Sundays. I am sorry for this situation.

Yes sioux but I haven't seen one of your parties in chat for quite some time now. Heck I didn't even get MY tiara on MY birthday!!!

US are you even a member of the church. Cause your statements aren't very in line with the teachings of the church regarding excommunication and repentance, let alone the nature of man.

You don't judge other people. Where have you been? If you could judge righteously then sure go for it but not many people can do that. And the bishops job as common judge is to ascertain what commandments have been broken and what punishment the church will administer. As a person he doesn't judge and he won't condemn you. The only true judge we should worry about is our Heavenly Father. Our job as saints is to help each other not judge.

Is there a lesson on infidelity in Priesthood?
checkerboy replied to mtkat's topic in Priesthood Quorums and Scouting
I have read several threads lately where someone has done someone else wrong. I always find it amazing how quick to judge most people here are. It's like we never read the scripture "Judge not lest ye be judged with that same judgement." Now I realize that the OP's are seeking comfort and advice, but, really, we don't know their situations except for what is posted here. I for one am not gonna tell someone that they MUST do this or NEED to do that. The funny thing to me is that at different times in my life I have been the scum bag, the loser, the unrepentant sinner, and the low down dirty dog. And if people had treated me as such where would I be today? I refer you to the blog I posted with a quote from Elder Jeffrey R. Holland. Blogs » don t beat up the swimmer » Mormon LDS Network: Mormon Chat, Forums, Mormon Beliefs, Mormon Faith, Mormon Blogs, Social, Profiles, Videos, Music Thank you for you time. Now return to doing whatever it is that you do. -
Books of Mormon may be correct but in my opinion sounds stupid. I always say Book of Mormons. But hey I'm just an idiot anyway.

Question about Nephi
checkerboy replied to Taklanika's topic in Learn about The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints
I also think of it this way. The Lord wanted to know that Nephi was faithful. Just like commanding Abraham to sacrifice Isaac was a test of Abrahams faith, I believe this was a test as well for Nephi. It isn't easy being a prophet and God needed to know that Nephi wouldn't buckle under the pressure. -
I have to agree with pentium. It appears this is in relation to intimacies formed in chat rooms. I have actually had a bad experience with this and can take Pres. Hinckley's counsel to heart. I have found that there are many that turn to the relative anonymity of the internet to fill some void in their lives. I have done that myself seeing as I am seperated from my wife. I feel like I have found my boundries, though, and realize that it can be easy to form inappropriate attachments. I do have to say though that there is nothing wrong with developing friendships whatever the method. I am truly thankful for the wonderful people that I have met here and in other places.

A few questions
checkerboy replied to Historic_Moment's topic in Learn about The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints
Well because officially the Word of Wisdom (doctrine giving by Joseph Smith) says to avoid hot drinks. Other Prophets have clarified that to mean coffee and tea. Some members of the church choose to not drink soda as well but there is no official position of the church on that. -
A few questions
checkerboy replied to Historic_Moment's topic in Learn about The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints
1. Ok so it isn't the caffeine that is the problem. Granted large doses of caffeine are not good. But it is just coffee and tea that we stay away from. 2. You are refering to a temple. Those are only open to worthy members of the church. But you can go into any church and go to services. 3. Garments are reminders of covenants made in temples and you can learn more about that after you join the church and can go into the temple to make your own covenants. Those were short and simple but hope that helps. -
Why LDS doctrine requires opposition to the death penalty

Hey Chandler I feel your pain. My wife decided that she didn't want to live church standards either. We were sealed in the temple also. That along with a couple other things led her to file for divorce. I didn't want it either but she was unwilling to try to work things out. We still haven't finalized things yet because we have two kids and she doesn't want to be fair in the custody. I tend to take things one day at a time. It has been over a year now with no end in sight. So the one day at a time thing helps alot. I just think of each day as being one day closer to this being resolved. Hope that helps.

Deep breath....
checkerboy replied to writingpedantic's topic in Young Single Adults, College and Institute
Ok pedantic, I married a girl with a daughter my first go around and it didn't bother me. Now that I am getting divorced I worry about finding someone too. I have two boys and wonder if any woman out there wants to have two extra kids. So anyway, I live in Idaho so after I am divorced I will head down to Utah and look you up. :) -
Hey Stampede, What building in SD was that? I grew up there.

Can anyone help answer my question?
checkerboy replied to anwar1983's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
Blacks have never been demonized in the church. They have been denied the priesthood and the revelation giving them the priesthood came some 10-15 years after the civil rights movement. The people in the Book of Mormon came from three seperate groups, the first group was from Babel, the second and third groups came from Jerusalem. After several generations I guess you could call them indegenous. Who knows if they met others who were here before them? I don't know that they would be considered black seeing as Native Americans of today aren't considered black. Hope that helps. -
Good for you Brooke! Welcome!

Student seeking help on the Mormon religion
checkerboy replied to Terri123's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
1. What are the important holidays and traditions of this religion? The same as most other Christian religions. Christmas and Easter probably being the most religiously based. 2. How has religion shaped your life? Religion is important to me because life would be miserable not knowing that there is something more to all that we go through. 3. What are the challenges, if any, to practicing this particular religion? No real challenges that most anyone wouldn't face. Just being good is hard enough. 4. How do you handle the negative media stories regarding Polygamy of Mormons? I don't care what others think of the history of the church. I have a testimony and know what I believe is right. People can think what they want but if they let those thoughts keep them from the truth then that is too bad for them. 5. Why do you think the role of the man is more important then that of the women in your religion? I don't think this. This is something that people who are ignorant of the way the church is run feel. The women of the church are just as important as the men. The difference is in their responsibilities. 6. How do you feel about not being allowed to enter certain temples because you are not seen as spiritually prepared? If I am worthy of a Temple Recommend I can enter any temple in the world. And the things you learn in the temples would be ill suited to someone not spiritually prepared. 7. How do the teachings from the Latter Day Saints differ from mainstream Christian religions such as Presbyterian, Episcopalian, Lutheran’s, etc? The only difference that I can see is that we believe in continuing revelation, which led to the Book of Mormon and priesthood restored. 8. How were you introduced to this religion, was it passed down from your parents, or were you recruited into the religion? I was baptised when I was 8 but I had to decide for myself if the things I learned were true. There have been periods in my life when I haven't been as active in the church as others but I feel I have received an answer that the church is true. 9. What part of the religion, if any, do you disagree with and why? I don't disagree with any doctrinal aspects of the religion. I would like to see them get back into the sports program they used to have when I was growing up. 10. What are the most beneficial aspects to being Mormon? I think the basic happiness that comes from knowing God and Jesus. I know that there is a plan for me and that if I follow that plan I can live with them again someday. -
South Park Message, Can You Please Explain?
checkerboy replied to teacherdani's topic in General Discussion
Seriously Dani, Listen to Pale. There was so much wrong with that I don't even know where to begin. The missionaries will have the time and the correct story to share with you if you find the time to talk to them. Don't go seeking truth from cartoons. I have tried to talk to you before about these things but you seem to keep coming back with more and more nonsense. Try looking for the truth in places that more then likely would have it, namely mormon.org not youtube. -
Haha I got to sleep in too. In fact Peter didn't want to get out of bed. I literally had to drag him out. But once up they were all excited. I just sent them off with their mom an hour ago. Now time for that long winter's nap. Merry Christmas!!!

So they tell me at least. The person below me has dyed their hair an unnatural color.

I Would Like Opinions On An Activity My Kids Did In Primary

is that contentious? You both could have handled it better. I admit that that was wrong. I could have restrained myself better. I hope CK you will forgive me for that brief loss of judgement on my part. -
I Would Like Opinions On An Activity My Kids Did In Primary
checkerboy replied to peanutgallery's topic in Primary Discussion
Ck you are obviously at odds with the entire leadership of the church (as there have been several quotes given from them about the atonement) and I would guess 90% of it's members. But your point really doesn't matter. Whether or not the atonement happened on the cross or in the garden or a combination of both, is irrrelevant. The relevant fact is that the atonement did happen. So if I believe in Christ and that he atoned for my sins, it doesn't really matter how he did it. In fact I know of know doctrine that states we have to know how the atonement was realized. Elder Snow of the Presidency of the Seventy was at my stake conference last weekend. He said in his talk, "We may never understand in this life how the atonement was accomplished." And it doesn't really matter one way or the other. Just be thankful that it was accomplished. Remember though contention is of the devil. Oh that last part is scriptural by the way
