  1. I posted this in another thread once before but thought that I might repost it here. There is a book that ldsfamily services has put out about addiction recovery, the reason I mention it here is that I believe that most of the members ought to give it a read through whether you have an addiction or not. I like to think of it as Repentance For Dummies. The book breaks down the repentance process into 12 easy steps. In fact step 5 is all about confession. Anyway here is the link. http://www.providentliving.org/content/dis...-3414-1,00.html
  2. Gaia while your intentions may be noble they are flawed none the less. Have you also heard that a living prophet is better then a dead one? The fact that you have given quotes by GA's does in no way make the doctrine acceptable. I can take these last three quotes and construe them to mean that because we are all descendents of Adam we will all be judged by him. (Because of your nicely put statement about the office of God.) We know that one of the rolls God (the office) has is that he will judge us. Therefore couldn't BY and HK have been simply refering to the fact that Adam as the Father of all the mortals on the planet will stand as a judge over all of us? We know that the original Twelve will judge the tribes of Israel. We know that Adam as the Ancient of Days will receive the judgements of every leader of every dispensation. I think we should apply Occam's Razor here and go with the simplest, easiest explaination as being probably the best. I understand your intent, but it is just another way of getting people to not focus on what is necessary for salvation and instead become entangled in things which have no saving grace.
  3. If you are posting things with the surety that an explosion is coming then I think you are posting for the wrong reasons.
  4. Man is not required to run faster then he has strength. If you have a desire to learn the organ then learn the organ. If you don't then don't. You already have talents that you are using to help others. The Lord only said that we develop our talents. It seems that you have a natural talent for playing piano but maybe not for the organ. If you wanted to, like you said, you could learn organ but would that be taking away from time with your family or benefiting them? Ultimately take it to the Lord and see how he feels. I think if you have developed your talents and still feel that something is lacking then maybe it is time to branch out. If you can barely hang on by doing what it is you are doing now then I don't think more will be required of you. Anyway hope that helps.

  7. Man I am at that stage too where the greys are showing up in my goatee. I am afraid if I dye it it will be too dark and people will just laugh and think I look stupid. Maybe I should shave it off and let it grow back in while dying it. Oh wait that is what you did snow and I don't want a black chin, hmmmm.
  8. No actually reading the Book of Mormon might help you get a better understanding of the Mormon church. Um and maybe going to visit an LDS service. Hmmm but those things wouldn't be quite as fun as dragging up old quotes that don't make any sense. Reading snippets from what church leaders in the past have said will just confuse you more because like I said earlier you can't have the meat before the milk.
  9. marshmallows!!!
  10. Just a few things I noticed when registering. A couple misspelled words. On My Criteria it would be nice to have multiple selection option for height and weight like you do with the other selections. I don't want to pigeonhole the physical dimensions and exclude anyone. But the ranges are pretty tight so multiple options would be nice. You also didn't list brown as either a hair or eye color. Now I know you have chestnut and walnut but I am not sure what those actually look like, I am a guy and presumably half of the clientele will be guys. In the interests section I am not quite sure what spectacls are. Besides those it looks like it will be fun. I see that there are only 8 members though. Need to get subscriptions up. I will pass the word along.

  12. Well let me be the first to welcome you to the US. You will love being at conference. There is nothing better then to be in the same room as the apostles and prophet. Enjoy your time here.
  13. Just thought you all might like to hear this. My mom is part of an action group called american family association. She sent me this email she just received. The fight goes on and you are not unnoticed. Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. If you want to donate to a specific elder you have to get the donation to that elders home ward. You just fill out the form and instead of checking the general mission fund put the money in the ward mission fund and send it to his home ward bishopric.
  15. I am sorry Elphaba but I have felt personally attacked BY you. But I hold no grudges. I am willing to let bygones be bygones. You definitely have a unique way of looking at life. While I mostly don't agree with some of your philosophies I find no reason why you shouldn't be allowed to share them. Just try not to be so hard on poor lowley me every now and again. I will try not to be so hard headed in the future.
  16. I am glad you are curious, but I wonder if you have taken your questions to Heavenly Father as he is ultimately the one who knows all. Take some time in earnest prayer to know the truth of all things and he will reveal it unto you. Remember the scripture in Isaiah 28: 9 Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts. 10 For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little: Know that the Lord loves you and wants you to gain knowledge but a man is not required to run faster then he is able. All things will be made known to us in due time and God's ways are not men's ways. These things that may seem almost abhorent to us today will be one day understood. We cannot comprehend the things that God comprehends and he doesn't expect us to. If we understand the basics of the plan of salvation then these questions honestly don't matter as they will sort themselves out after this life. May God be with you in your quest for truth.

  18. I used to work at a screen printing shop and I would download talks from speeches.byu.edu. They have them arranged by topic or speaker. I was able to listen while I worked and had quite a number of spiritual experiences while there. If you have itunes you can subscribe to a ton of free LDS podcasts.
  19. Sounds like the anti-mormons have been visiting you. I am gonna let someone else go ahead and tackle these questions cause I don't have time right now, but just wanted to say you gotta have the milk before the meat. I think Paul talks about this. The most important thing you can do right now is gain a testimony of Jesus Christ and the plan of salvation. If any of those things were true would that effect what you have to do to gain eternal life with Heavenly Father? Answer that question and then you will know.
  20. Well I have to say that I feel bad for anyone in this type of situation. I am going through a divorce right now and would give my right eye to be able to have my boys with me all the time. I don't consider it baby sitting when my ex drops them off so she can go out and do what ever it is she does. I would think that any guy that doesn't appreciate the time that he can spend with his kids needs to be put in a situation where he doesn't get any time with his kids and see how he likes it. I used to be that way and now I can't stand the fact that I can't see my boys whenever I want. It was funny to me that I was often called controlling by my ex when all I would do is try to get her to understand that the actions she chose were not very healthy for her or our family. I know that I could have been more supportive of her and now I am reaping the consequences of my decisions.
  21. I never really liked Target anyway so I will support your ban on Target.
  22. I would have to say that parenting style doesn't fall under the category of things needing to be repented of, unless of course your style involves abuse of any kind. Denying children material things isn't something that you need to repent of. Maybe yelling at them because they want material things would be but it doesn't sound like you do that. There are always gonna be things that we look back on and regret but if you try to do things differently in the future I think you will be ok. You should always council with Heavenly Father over all your actions but I don't think that means everything you do or don't do is grounds for repentence.
  23. Jacob Oh that was too easy
  24. I would take a primary job over any other calling in the church. I love those kids. Seeing their unwavering faith, we should all be so lucky as you siouxz.
  25. Checkerboy,This discussion has been about a short period of time from the late 1830s to the early 1840s. The fact that you would write what you did above tells me you haven't read one thing I have written and know nothing about the subject matter. In the future, if you're not going to actually read my posts, please don't bother to post in my threads. I know it's your choice, but I'm asking you as a favor. Thanks, Elphaba You know I try not to post here often because everytime I do someone decides that what I have to say isn't worth their time, but when I see people who don't understand certain principles I feel it is my obligation to enlighten. You don't have to read my posts. I have read everything you've written. What you quoted didn't have anything to do with the time period you mentioned, yes, I was refering to this discussion on this board. It seems to have taken a very pro feminist slant. As far as the subject matter goes I have been through the temple and I believe I do understand the principles and the covenants that I have made. You of course have admitted that you haven't been through the temple and are relying on quotes from others that have become disaffected from the church. I didn't come here to argue but by saying what you said you show how little respect you have for others that don't believe the same as you. I think, like Yedyid, I will look to other forums where the taint of atheists and misguided individuals hasn't yet taken hold. I will leave you all to corrupt this forum to your liking.
