  1. Quit talking sense. By putting things in a proper context you are spoiling many a good rant.
  2. I too have difficulty distinguishing between the blurry lines of being an entrepreneur and a whore. I guess they are at some level essentially interconnected.
  3. Elf, it is obvious that most people posting here are not as well versed on this issue as yourself. There seems to be some lack of understanding of what the Church had to gain by offering a heart-felt and sincere apology. Could you fill us in on the details about the appropriateness and benefits of such an apology?
  4. Out of eighteen of Le Guin's books, my library does not have that one. But I think that I'll read "Fish Soup" again. That is an excellent story on which to base a dialogue group on ethics, if anyone ever is a facilitator for such a group. You can find the whole short story on the net with a google search. Here it is without formatting:
  5. Here is another powerful short story: The Ones Who Walked away from Omelas, by Ursula K. Le Guin
  6. Elf, what do you think of the idea that Elder Eyring did indeed issue an apology, but such apology was overridden in an official Church statement by administrative fiat from a higher ranking Apostle? Just a thought.
  7. Sounds more like a control issue than a religious issue. Is your hubby controlling in other ways as well?
  8. Just don't mention the Salamander connection....
  9. That way, people of good conscience like Steuss can breath a sigh of relief and Church hardliners can gleefully say that they never apologized. Makes sense in a round about way, but I am still left with an empty feeling of closure not happening. I tend to agree with this.
  10. Maybe the question I should have asked is: Do you wish that this calling were available for someone else to serve in? Of course! Just the same I suspect there would be an adequate pool of volunteers who could hone their skills to stand and deliver.... Since it was my idea, the only request I would make of them is to mention Jesus a bit more frequently.
  11. I think at some point in the future, the Church wide collective consciousness will be raised to the point where a revelation will open up the Priesthood to LDS women. Even though we are poky we will plug away like the Aesop's turtle and run the race.
  12. I wish there was a Sacrament Talk track or ministry for those who are good at public speaking.
  13. Some members insist on absolute unquestioning obedience or else you can be labeled as contentious. It is nice to have the internet as an outlet for expression of disagreement, is it not? I could never express myself the same way in Church.
  14. That way, people of good conscience like Steuss can breath a sigh of relief and Church hardliners can gleefully say that they never apologized. Makes sense in a round about way, but I am still left with an empty feeling of closure not happening.
  15. I think Tuttle is wrong. Tuttle is completely wrong, but he is the official spokesperson.
  16. I feel sad that the Church did not issue an undeniable apology for this tremendous mass murder committed by their members and put this horrible tragedy behind them. I do not understand the psychology or reasons behind being unwilling to offer such a healing apology.
  17. From The Huffington Post:
  18. So let me get this straight. You're saying he brought actual Lamanite bees over, costumes, feathers and all? Elphie I suspect the kind Nephites or the good Lamanites helped sew the costumes since the bees themselves were too busy making honey. Division of labor and all that. Anyway, they gave us the Beehive as a symbol. Perhaps the feather was from a humming bird. However, silver and turquoise jewelry is much too heavy for bees.
  19. Must you always make such blanket statements?
  20. Weird or not, I consider honey to be very kosher, especially drizzled on Native American matzos. Oy Kimosabe!
  21. Were they reptilian in nature and did they enter the nether-caverns underneath the new City Creek Mall? Were you probed?
  22. Sometime in the future there may be a fan club and statue waiting for Timothy McVeigh as well. In the meantime, Utah and the Church could not buy worse publicity than this statue of John D. Lee.
  23. Issac, this sounds most excellent. I hope you could let us know how those other efforts turn out. Palerider, what types of interfaith activities did you participate in? Did they help foster a better interfaith understanding? Onyx, I am very pleased to hear of your efforts. Your generosity with the SA school is admirable and your door knocking with the Salvation Army is great as well. I have always been impressed with the dedication of that group, and I bet your local Army appreciates you as well. Could you tell us more about those regional interfaith meetings?
  24. Are you speaking of the days of the Eisenhower administration? Sorry Elf, I will not further sidetrack the points made by yourself and Gaia.
  25. Utah county is in the 3rd district with a gerrymandered portion of west Salt Lake County. It remains in the solid Republican column. The 2nd district includes such likely bedfellows as urban Salt Lake County and rural southern Utah to dilute the will of the gentile voters.
