  1. I guess Darth Vader is an anti-hero, because in the end, only he can defeat the Emperor and he rises to the occasion.
  2. Thomas Covenant started out bad with the rape of Lena and all that, but in his defense he thought it was just a dream. In the end he saved the Land. In the Urth of the New Sun series by the greatest living author, Gene Wolfe, Severian the Torturer commits heinous deeds with honor in a world were they are appropriate. In the TV world, Earl has committed many misdeeds, but not seeks to make amends so he can cross them off his list.
  3. Anyone else sailing on a Ship of Fools?
  4. No, they are usually a leading character who sometimes behaves in a less that noble fashion. Clearly Ed Decker or Darth Vader would be villains rather than anti-heroes.
  5. This is definitely one to watch: Andy Williams & The Osmonds - Lida Rose (1964) Watch for cute little Marie Osmond's first appearance on TV.
  6. Sort of like these darn roads. I like driving on them, but man, do I have to pay for them? Wouldn't it be cheaper if we just paid for our own individual roads? What? You say that is ridiculous not to work together on roads? But what if the asphalt industry had a really powerful lobby?
  7. Scott Gallan, Hi. It has been a while. How are your and your daughter?
  8. Elf, Wildest Dreams is great too, eh? My age at the time? Gosh, I must have at least been in the caterpillar phase.
  9. [ Honey, do these stretch pants look okay on me?
  10. As in the "well has run dry with their tithing money"?
  11. Here is a pretty one you may have heard at weddings: Paul Stookey and The Wedding Song
  12. I have been intrigued by the Baptists at our Barbecue idea. I broached this with my Bishop a few years back. He more or less pooh poohed the idea because it was new and he wasn't being ordered to do it by his superiors. Still, the idea or a local ward partnering together with some other local congregation of another faith at a potluck or barbecue, in order to establish a greater appreciation of one another seems like a good idea. In the film they used Baptists, but in real life it might be easier to get acquainted with less hellfire preaching groups such as Lutherans, Episcopalians, Catholics, etc.... If you were ever in a position to do this, have a write up about it in one of the Church publications, so that other wards could emulate your example.

  14. But, of course, I forgive him. He's my boy Bill! Elphaba I thought you would be forgiving, it is after all a very desirable quality. One item that some could have picked up upon from my question, is that people besides presidents, (from Hollwood actors to famous religious leaders) have had their sexual peccadilloes, and yet folks have found a way to forgive or excuse them. There is something about politics that brings out the tooth and fang of followers.
  15. The way I learned the term Jack Mormon, it has nothing to do with loving or even believing in any LDS doctrine, it had to do with being being inactive and or being inactive and not following the Mormon food substance prohibitions.
  16. Your characterization seems to be faulty. He took CNN to task for Dr. Sangay Gupta for attacking his movie and blasted Wolf Blitzer out of the water. To prove this point, I offer the clip itself.
  17. Here is a diversionary tale: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4UfsL84VZBE...ted&search=
  18. As many of you know, Michael Moore has a new film out called Sicko, that discusses many of the problems associated with not having adequate health care. Unless your mind is utterly shut to this issue, it might be worthwhile to rent the video when it is available. An important point to note on this issue, is that the United States is the only industrial country in the world that does not have a nationalized health care system for its citizens.
  19. Elf, do you think it is possible to forgive a leader linked to sexual peccadilloes?
  20. What is a thread like this doing in the Gospel Discussion forum anyway?
  21. I will assume you were referring to Pahoran and Polygamy Porter and not sweet lovable Severian as the culprits.... Those first two do get rather rambunctious. Thanks for your reassurance BTW about posting. When I see too many staunchly conservative posts I get worried and think maybe a pogrom might be in the offing.
  22. Elf, for a heads up, what is the limit for sharing liberal ideas on this forum? The ability to talk about these things is apparently much more open than MAD, but I suspect is more constrained than Mormon Discussions.
  23. Who needs this Brother's Keepers stuff? One only needs sufficient ammo and bandaids for their compound and undersground bunker and that is enough. Let those industrialized countries care for their citizens. If we suffer and die, it is fore-ordained.
