  1. Prior to becoming LDS, I attended the services of many other Churches and faith traditions. Sometimes when I hear LDS people express their thoughts regarding the religious beliefs of others, I realize they are totally in the dark in regards to what these other people actually believe.
  2. My thoughts are that one should have both a Temple and an out of Temple wedding in these cases. Although some Authority made up the rule of the one year exclusion prior to the Temple wedding, they did not think to hinder another wedding immediately following the Temple Ceremony. That way, LDS couples could have their spiritual needs met, without breaking the hearts of those they are forced to exclude.
  3. Scenario: The couple view Family as a forever business, so they seek a civil union first to let all members of the family attend this event. To them, all togetherness is important. Don't see the value of the Temple when they also want to get married in the Temple? That doesn't make sense, does it? One year wait as a matter of preparation and learning for those already married, as opposed to immediately for those not married? That also does not make sense.
  4. Why is there a one year wait on otherwise Temple worthy couples who marry first in a civil ceremony in the United States? I know this restriction does not apply in Brazil or the UK or other places that required it. Isn't this policy an albatross for such couples?
  5. Feel like toe tapping? Paul Simon - The Obvious Child More toe tapping?
  6. Should have said "scripture or doctrine" or just left out the word scripture, since that seems to imply a higher order of writing. Actually, I think the term "doctrine-out-in-left-field" would have been even closer to the mark.
  7. Possibly the nickname, The Big Guy?
  8. Yes. I remember reading about this case. Fortunately, this was after Brigham Young, and this Bishop from Nevada was finally exonerated. I think Orson Hyde was also an opponent to this Adam-God idea, and although he alone of the Apostles challenged this idea, he was merely chided by Brother Brigham rather than punished for his disbelief.
  9. I got married in the Stake Center gym, but we had to bring in a judge, because we wanted to have a procession and our own vows. We did not realize that the ring ceremony would have been out too. What a bummer. At least our judge did a really good job, and the decorations were quite nice.
  10. Fleetwood Mac, huh? Here are my two favorites:
  11. I thought we agreed on MLA! Elphaba How about APA style: (Elphaba, 2007) or Moksha style: (I think somebody once said...).
  12. Sounds delicious. You must be a big hit at your Ward potluck dinners.
  13. Didn't the concept of regaining the Melchizedek Priesthood arise after the Book of Mormon was written?
  14. But wasn't there a challenge to her credibility by stating your disbelief of her educational and employment background and questioning her membership status in the Church? While not saying she was a demon, these do seem rather like ad hominen attacks.
  15. It is obvious that The Onion understands science much better than say, Fox News does. (Of course, both may be eclipsed by Mrs. Anderson's Third Grade Class at the Severian Elementary School).
  16. No one does hard hitting investigative journalism quite like The Onion. Elf, I prefer The Onion, the Daily Show and the Colbert Report for much of my information as well.
  17. Here is some very inspirational music: Let there be Peace on Earth. It is well worth viewing.
  18. You could always email your post to the Bishop and the Relief Society President. Hopefully, they would come and assist you. Sometimes, you need but ask to receive.
  19. Green Fields - by The Brothers Four (with some pretty scenery too boot).
  20. Its not like I ever have sophisticated jokes. BTW, I am listening to Per Te right now.
  21. Secret superior knowledge? Sounds rather gnostic to me. The thing is, what Gaia said was factual about her background, and I doubt she would claim any superiority. Some folks have had through school or experience a lot of religious education. That said, it does not diminish the individual worth of anyone's opinion for they are all worthy of being heard. Congratulations on the Superbowl, 300 game and the oven mitts.
  22. A Hatter with an attitude, eh? Personally, I like a good attitude, where people respect and value one another despite whether they disagree or not.
  23. I read it as "It is through Grace we are save, regardless of all we can do". That is not to say that the doing of good works are unimportant - after all they were requested of us, but in the end it is God who has the final say.
  24. I thought the New Testament said that Jesus would do this. Is there a scriptorian on duty? Checkerboy, if not for discussion worthy items, these type of boards sometimes can involve recipes and announcements of missionary farewells. Besides, are you able to discuss these types of gospel related issues in Church? I know they never occur in my ward. It is much better to storm the Bastille and let in the light of day, than to live an perfectly ordinary and humdrum existence. That way we can learn and progress.
  25. Please tell me you mean that in jest..
