  1. You would probably love Utah's regressive State income tax: The rich pay a lower percentage of tax than the working poor. Also, the yearly assessment tax on a limo is the same as an econo-box.
  2. Have you tried combining milk and Pepsi? :)
  3. Elf, are there any late breaking developments in Iraf?

    Some Irony

Those Hollywood folk do get the babes, do they not? Maybe its time for a hot first lady. Think of the White House parties on Entertainment Tonight! Yeah, that Family Values stuff is a meaningless catch phrase. I bet Mitt's handlers will have him uttering it at many campaign whistle stops.
  5. Carrots (not so with Woodchucks)
  6. The thing I don't get about disfellowshipping is when they turn their backs, cross their arms and mutter Klingon curses. What's up with that? Does this also mean they won't help in any barn raisings?
  7. Is that different than the General Discussion forum? I looked and couldn't find it there. Perhaps an inadvertent flick of the wand? On other sites, I think this is less attributed to magic itself and more to someone moving or censoring it.
  8. You mean like this: (30) Jesus said, "Where there are three gods, they are gods. Where there are two or one, I am with him." or like this: 48) Jesus said, "If two make peace with each other in this one house, they will say to the mountain, 'Move Away,' and it will move away." (49) Jesus said, "Blessed are the solitary and elect, for you will find the kingdom. For you are from it, and to it you will return."
  9. I have read this same question on other forums. Generally the best answer is that the believing spouse should just worry about paying on their own income. That way you are giving what have been requested of you and you are not setting yourself and your tithing to the Church up as the source of marital friction.
  10. Here is visual proof. The cute little Lamanite Bee is even pointing to the transoceanic voyage from Jerusalem.
  11. The sayings of Jesus constitute apostasy? Does the Church recognize the Gospel of Thomas as containing the actual sayings of Jesus? I am certain they recognize many of them from the four canonized Gospels.
  12. The sayings of Jesus constitute apostasy?
  13. Elf, thank you from bring us this positive development from a source we can trust. Too many other news outlets would have eschewed this story as just another sad reminder of President Bush's inability to correctly say place names.

  16. Numbers 22: 28-30 The Donkey said to Balaam: "What have I ever done to you that you have beat me these three times?" Balaam said, "Because you've been playing games with me! If I had a sword I would have killed you by now." The donkey said to Balaam, "Am I not your trusty donkey on whom you've ridden for years right up until now? Have I ever done anything like this to you before? Have I?" Do any of you remember the Francis the Talking Mule movies with Donald O'Conner?
  17. How did the Holy Communion of the Eucharistic Sacrament get shortened to just Sacrament anyway? Perhaps the question would be better put is how did the simple sacrament instituted by the Savior get blown up to be the performance that it is in some groups today. The term Sacrament historically applies to a number of acts, such as the Eucharist, Baptism, Confirmation, Marriage, etc... The Communion part I believe comes from the imploring of "Do this in rememberance of me". I think we Mormons use the word ordinance in place of the ofther types of sacraments.
  18. The Gospel of Thomas consists entirely of the sayings and parables of Jesus. Many of which did not make it into the other Gospels. Since it his sayings were not a narrative as to the divinity of Jesus, they were not deemed worthy of canonization. Still they serve as a more complete work for what Jesus said.
  19. I see it as mostly allegory and many of the stories without a very good moral either. Still all in all, it is a predecessor tale to the meat of the New Testament,
  20. Greg Kearney who is a Mormon and a Mason had an excellent podcast about the two on Mormon Stories. It was a very fascinating history lesson of the two organizations.

  22. So is this about the Second Comforter Ordinance?
  23. You are most welcome Gaia. As you point out, we must all walk the walk for we are all the shining Children of God. The assumption should never be made that just because one is a skilled debater, that they have a thicker skin or less feelings than anyone else. Those blessed with a remarkable memory and native intelligence like Gaia, are just as vulnerable and deserving of consideration as the rest. We should honor these people for their wisdom and vast store of knowledge.
  24. Sounds like a somewhat cynical view of Mormons.
