Because I think people in general strive for higher aspirations and goals. Now, I realize I might be hitting upon an area that people are reluctant to be open about - especially if they feel such aspirations are forbidden. Whether they are forbidden or not, I think they are quite natural and I would really be surprised if no members actually had such aspirations. Ask any group of kids and somewhere one of them wants to be President (USA) or some other leadership position. Now that I think of it, I should have added Relief Society and Primary Presidents to the mix for the women.

I would have suspected that someone would have the desire to become a Bishop, Stake President or General Authority.

Sometimes I wonder if people remember what is said week to week, let alone two years ago. My guess is that your situation has been forgotten. Two years seems way too excessive to remove yourself from the formal communion of the Sacrament service. I would start taking the Sacrament, and schedule an appointment with the Bishop to discuss other issues you may wish to discuss.

We all have different needs and aspirations. Right now, I would shy away from wanting any callings, and yet in my youth I recall being energetic and ambitious and getting involved in community affairs and seeking involvement. I welcomed positions of leadership. Had I been religious at that time, I would have found the same thing appealing at Church. So I am wondering what others who are not old and jaded may feel in this regard. Do you seek after positions of power or authority, or wish to be an assistant in some calling, or have a burning desire to serve others? Maybe something cushy without a big time drain? Want to work with kids or adults? I hope we could feel free to speak candidly and not feel constrained to furnish only the appropriate answers.

So are we talking about a lot of Crudités with flavored dips?

We think almost all will enter one of the three kingdoms of Heaven.

We have had a lot of the children of older members (especially past Bishops) move back into the ward, and they are absorbing most of the callings. I doubt I have much to worry about.

We needed this disclaimer. I can imagine all of us going to bed at night wondering if what we said would tarnish the world-wide reputation of the More Good Foundation. Now that this has been posted we can all breath a collective sigh of relief, knowing that we will not be the one to throw sand in the gears if we slip up.

Yeah, I was briefly a home teacher till my companion left town.

I have only been going to Church for four years now, so I don't have to worry about any callings.

Just say please and thank you or that hand will put its foot down! BTW, my category only says members. I feel so restricted....

I wouldn't worry about gifts. You might receive an extravagant gift that you would never be able to pay the tithing on.

I suppose kicking butts is a time honored expression for both biker bars and military expressions of jingoistic patriotism.

I have listened to such ward switching requests on a number of forums over several years. The main theme that shines through all of them is the pitting of the needs of individual members against bureaucratic control. I have my own opinion as to which is ultimately the most important - the individual members - but I realize that the bureaucratic need for record keeping and logistical planning has to be served as well.

Still, wouldn't you rather have them focusing their efforts at BYU on this, than sinking their teeth into something else, like doctrinal purity?

Do you think with enough encouragement, we could have gotten Saddam to confess to a barage of unsolved crimes within the United States?

Will we eventually be the only country stuck in Iraq without the sense to leave?

An Interpretive Tradition Rather Than Church “doctrine”

I am uncertain of this. The Catholics have had many changes over the last two millennium. Most recently, Vatican I & II ushered in many changes. The Episcopalians recently had a major change as to who can be Bishops. Ect.... Perhaps we can says that our's is the one true fluidity, but we cannot say we are the only ones who change. -
We have information that a terrorist cell is going to blow up a bridge in a certain city, between 3:30 and 4:30PM. There are three bridges in the area, and it is now 3:05PM. The bomb is expected to kill a minimum of 800 people, and could kill as many as 5000? With 14 seconds, those subjected to waterboarding panic, and there is a 70% chance that the technique could rendor the information that will allow us to defuse the bomb in time. There is also a 70% chance that using this technique will mean the victim suffers recurring nightmares and develops a fear of running water. Do we do it? It's a tough call, but needing information "in a timely matter," certainly does change the situation. Do it anyway and perhaps feel really bad when we learn afterwards that the torturee had no knowledge of the events in question?

Good thing too. Catholics are our allies in Christ.
