This is from The Message Bible, hope it makes it clearer: 9-12The Anarchist's coming is all Satan's work. All his power and signs and miracles are fake, evil sleight of hand that plays to the gallery of those who hate the truth that could save them. And since they're so obsessed with evil, God rubs their noses in it—gives them what they want. Since they refuse to trust truth, they're banished to their chosen world of lies and illusions.

Living in Magic Valley, Utah I think the one true disaster would be a large earthquake. It would be somewhat hard to prepare for a really big one since we cannot predict how safe it would be to remain in our houses due to gas line leakage. One thing for certain, is that it would take a community effort to care for everyone and help them pull through. I have worried about some of our local gun nuts barricading themselves and taking pot shots at passing neighbors. I hope when the time comes, circumstances will be such that common sense overcomes some of their rhetoric. A very large earthquake will leave much of the Valley vulnerable to ground liquefaction due to being built upon sandy soil. Hate to think about those I care for struggling in a quick sand situation. Hopefully their 72 hour kits will keep them afloat. I am hoping all the LDS Churches have been built sturdy enough that they can serve as temporary shelters.

A corollary in government is that no good project goes unblamed.

The KFC original recipe and gravy are, for some reason, not the same as they used to be.

I think a 4-5 year old would be to young to understand how animals fill particular niches in the environment. Sometimes you just have to say "Because".

The Chinese have driven the Dalai Lama from Tibet – and not in a very polite manner I should add. However he has stopped by Salt Lake City a number of times - few know this but the only Zen Buddhist Master outside of Japan lives and teaches in Salt Lake City and is a personal friend of the Dalai Lama. The Traveler The Dalai Lama spoke at Utah Valley State College a few years back too. Although a world traveler, his official residence is in Northern India. I believe his personal Buddhist tradition springs from Mahayana - where they practice the "big boat" Buddhism of helping others achieve enlightenment. Yes, I definitely want to phone him. Actually, I would like a dinner party - at the Roof Restaurant of the Joseph Smith Building - that had the Dalai Lama, Woody Allen, a living Kurt Vonnegut, Gordon B. Hinckley, Scarlett Johanssen and our own Elphaba as dinner guests. Wouldn't that be fun?

I think they did call and you won in 2012.

The first KFC was a restraint on State Street in Salt Lake City (about 25th south). I remember going there in my younger days. It was a real restraint complete with linen napkins, silver ware and waitresses – in other words – what we now call “fine” dining, not the fast food variety. It was a Salt Lake icon that is now lost forever in history and time. If you want a good chicken dinner at a real restraint, you will have to travel a bit from SLC to Maddox – a nifty restraint just south of Brigham City (the city of my birth) on the old highway 89. The Traveler I thought the 39th South location was the original. It was previously named The Dew Drop Inn. Think of how it would have been different named Utah Fried Chicken! A big shout out to the Maddox Restaurant in Perry, Utah mentioned by Traveler. It has excellent fried chicken (we Mormons like our Chicken and Jell-O). Also the Spring Chicken Inn at Wanship, Utah is worth a visit by tourists and locals.

You should take the Communion Sacrament with your right hand only.

Here is one that never seems to go away: "Cutting or shaving hair makes it grow faster and/or fuller"

Hmmm, perhaps either Woody Allen or the Dalai Lama. I would however insist on reversing the charges on a call to Tibet.

Nataional Commentator Calls Mormonism 'demented, Ridiculous

This leaves me wondering about whether news stories about anti-mormon rhetoric are as forbidden as the the rhetoric itself? -

He probably won't be asked back on the show. LDS Members need to email MSNBC and the McLaughlin Group. -
That was really a wise disclaimer. It will become increasingly inconvenient for the Church to be boxed in by absolutist statements from the past - especially when the writing of science is already visible on the wall. The Catholic Church suffered for a long time by having the ghost of its errant reaction to Galileo present and anchored by such decrees that the Earth was the center of the Universe and all things revolved around it. Elder Packer is welcome to his opinion, but it would have been wrong to drag the Church along with him.

No, they are only part of the poverty problem in America. However, many in these two groups are the hardest to help because they can be so resistive and combative at times. It is difficult to get some mentally ill individuals stabilized on medications that can help them. Affordable housing is difficult to come by all of the time, and especially so for these groups. Religious outreach missions continue to play an important role in helping these people. In Salt Lake, the LDS Church has contributed financially to the St. Vincent DePaul (Catholic), the Archdiocese of Utah and the Salvation Army. It is well appreciated when individual Mormons also help with the manpower needs for these needy. There is so much to do but we can try our best.

I have noticed that not all people are able to be flexible when it comes to learning and accepting new ideas. Think how long it took for the flat earth idea to be discarded. The major bug-a-boo of our time is the challenge for members who are able to fully embrace evolution to peacefully coexist in the same pews with those who hold a creationist view. It can be done as long as you don't discuss the subject. I am on the side of the evolutionists and I think that evolution is one on the more effective tools in God's arsenal. I realize that this viewpoint is not shared by all of my fellow religionists, but I take heart that the LDS leadership has left open the door for further learning and understanding. Just as flat earth thoughts gave way to out current understanding, I think eventually we will all be on the same page of understanding regarding evolution. It may take a few generations, but barring unforeseen events, people generally grow more enlightened with advances in science.

Dunno, I would suggest you take the higher aspirations point up with Steven R. Covey. I doubt members having aspirations would put them in a category of spiritual death. Actually, I think the Natural Man you are talking about is more akin to Freud's concept of the unrestrained Id or Thomas Hobb's brutish man of nature. The higher aspiration I am discussing is what make us naturally want to excel. The forbiddeness I was talking about is this concept that to have these desires either demonstrates a lack of humility or is intrinsically wrong in some way. Although taken out of a Church context, most Mormons would praise Mitt Romney for wanting to be President. Same desire, in one situation it is an accepted ambition but in a Church setting it borders on being in the realm of an unrighteous forbidden desire. Personally, for a job as involved as that of a Bishop, I probably would prefer someone who enthusiastically wishes to make the tremendous time commitment ahead of time. Your are really 99 years old? When will the big 100 happen? I admire elder elders.

Now for something really different: Charles Manson's Last Dance ...only watch if you are already warped....

Not to worry, there is always Decaf. While it won't wake you up in the morning, it helps you sleep better at night. You can always take a thermos full (with a touch of chocolate and vanilla) to Church with you on Sunday (not fast Sunday however).

I remember hearing people muttering some absurdity about Hurricane Katrina and the attack on the World Trade Center towers being Divine retribution as well. Makes me think they had a very harsh view of God. Natural Disasters have been occuring since the dawn of time. Man-made disasters are just that: man-made. Edited to make sense...
