  1. A nursery school teacher launched into her lesson about the upcoming Fourth of July celebration. She stood in front of the class to give them an overview of patriotism and said:"Class, America is a truly great country."She paused to let her words sink in, and then continued."And one of the best things about this country is that we are all free." One boy stood up in the classroom and declared,"I'm not free; I'm four."
  2. One dark, cloudy afternoon, just after the school bell rang for dismissal, the wind whipped up, the thunder boomed, and the lightning cracked.A mom frightened her child would be scared or even hurt by the storm, rushed to her car to catch her daughter en route to home. As she approached her little girl, she noticed that every time there was a bolt of lightning, the girl would stop, look up and smile. Mom quickly rushed her little girl into the car , then said "what were you doing?why were you stopping in this awful storm?" To which the little girl replied "I was looking up to smile momma, because God was taking my picture"
  3. I did a search on the LDS website and it doesn't list a meeting place for Greensburg, KS. I am thinking that the members had to go to a larger city to go to Church.
  4. Follow this link: http://www.joshhosler.biz/NumberOneInHistory/SelectMonth.htm
  5. I would like to see a list of what the US has given others.
  6. If you are talking about the Amish, that is correct, they worship in each others homes. They travel in their community via horse and buggy and are very low keyed people. Each week there is a buggy crafted to pick up pews from one farmhouse and take to the ones that are hosting Church for that Sunday. They also won't let people take pictures of them, have no pictures in their homes either. You won't find any electricty in their homes, much less telephones or computers. But they will ask to use your cell phone. They pay very well for a ride to town or out of state to a wedding or funeral. Their children go to the 8th grade in their own schools. I could go on and on, but do a search, interesting life they live. I have never ever met a rude Amish person. We lived in one of the biggest communities of Amish. Marsha
  7. Jia, I am sorry to hear of your loss. You are absoultly correct to say that the killer will be judged in his own time. He will sit before a judge and jury here but nothing like when he meets up with Heavenly Father again. Marsha And tell me that you don't think that the other cities don't have any crime or murders? What shell are you living under? You mentioned some of the worst cities.
  8. Why, Why, Why do we press harder on a remote control when we know the batteries are getting dead? Why do banks charge a fee on 'insufficient funds' when they know there is not enough money? Why does someone believe you when you say there are four billion stars, but check when you say the paint is wet? Why doesn't glue stick to the bottle? Why do they use sterilized needles for death by lethal injection? Why doesn't Tarzan have a beard? Why does Superman stop bullets with his chest, but ducks when you throw a revolver at him? Why do Kamikaze pilots wear helmets? Whose idea was it to put an 'S' in the word ! 'lisp'? If people evolved from apes, why are there still apes? Why is it that no matter what color bubble bath you use the bubbles are always white? Is there ever a day that mattresses are not on sale? Why do people constantly return to the refrigerator with hopes that something new to eat will have materialized? Why do people keep running over a string a dozen times with their vacuum cleaner, then reach down, pick it up, examine it, then put it down to give the vacuum one more chance? Why is it that no plastic bag will open from the end on your first try? How do those dead bugs get into those enclosed light fixtures? When we are in the supermarket and someone rams our ankle with a shopping cart then apologizes for doing so, why do we say, 'It's all right?' Well, it isn't all right, so why don't we say, 'That hurt, you stupid idiot?' Why is it that whenever you attempt to catch something that's falling off the table you always manage to knock something else over? In winter why do we try to keep the house as warm as it was in summer when we complained about the heat? How come you never hear father-in-law jokes? And my FAVORITE...... The statistics on sanity are that one out of every four persons is suffering from some sort of mental illness. Think of your three best friends -- if they're okay, then it's you.
  9. Shan, I THINK that you only want to clip ONE wings feathers. That is what we did to our birds, clip two and they can still fly. Ben can confirm that one. :) Marsha
  10. ummmm didn't we have another "Stelli" on here a while ago? Problem child that one was too.
  11. It does make sense Dancergirl. I remember my youngest brother thanking my parents for "having one more child." He is the 5th and last.
  12. YOU saying why oh why? 4 kids in 5 years. Does your wife remember NOT being pregnant? And before any of you "let me have it," please don't. I am sure that those same thoughts have run thru your mind. Seriously though, more power to you. I really wish that I had more than my 2, eight years apart. It just wasn't meant to be. If I could have more now, yes even at my age, I would. Marsha
  13. And I enjoy your posts as well. A BIG welcome back Captain Tux. I came to this board several years ago in search of some answers. I had been researching the LDS Church for quite a long time and found this board. Here I could ask questions, get answers - both from members and non members. I learned quite a bit from the non-members and exmormons. Some good, some bad. Believe it or not Snow and Bat were the 2 that were very influential to me in my decision to become a member, a convert at such a late age! Now those who know Bat don't think oh oh. He is the one that when things got tough asked, "WHY didn't you go to meetings today?" Even though he is a FORMER member of the Church, he still has his beliefs and could answer and point you in whatever direction you were seeking an answer for. Miss that lil bat man. Snow, well he is Snow! He to would give references to anything that you wanted to know. Where is that Snow these days? Did you forget about us here in cyberland? There are many others to which I admire and read their posts with interest. Thanks to everyone here that makes this board and world what it is today. Marsha
  14. All I can think of is oh my goodness. If I were in a similar situation would I be so forgiving? Marsha
  15. Hawaii, UK, Canada, what difference does it make where you are? I don't think that any of us will come to try and find you.
  16. We? Are you a mod? Do you do the weeding? My member number is 8,307 and you now have 5,688? Is that 3000 aprox. less now? You weeded out 3000? I am getting the picture. Reading is nice, but I can go to the library to read. I like inter action. Yes I am a moderator on this board.......have been for years. And yes, there have been quite a few members deleted over time here. Most were for having multiple accounts, hmmmm and some for even having multiple PERSONALITIES, imagine that! We have deleted spammers that got approved and trolls as well. Maybe you won't fall in to one of these categories, again. Marsha
  17. Ajax, Well why don't you post more? You have made a total of 11 posts since becoming a member on July 12, 2004. You were member number 8,307. We now have 5,688 members and 83,418 posts. Think you have quite a bit of reading to do, plenty to read. But one reason we don't have more posts is because we weed out the spammers and the troublemakers. Read on! Marsha
  18. WTG Dancer. I didn't know there were "mini-missions" Marsha
  19. SF, Even with signs posted they are still liable. It is up to them to have enough manpower to bring the carts in. My brothers car got hit once, they paid for the damages. Sign or no sign. Liable they are. It is just like the grocery stores now put grapes in zipper bags. Slip and fall. Ice on the sidewalk? The shopowner is responsible. Around here there is a grocery store called ALDI'S. To use one of their carts you have to put a quarter in a device, then they are released from the cart ahead of it. When finished, take the cart back and put the chain in the lock and you get your quarter back. You NEVER see a cart in their parking lots! Wonder when the major dept stores will follow? I have seen the quarter carts used for years. Marsha
  20. I am so sorry to hear that. Have you called your local animal shelter? Marsha
  21. And you are so correct! Anyway it is in Mid-Missouri, and yes any of you are welcome at any time. I don't reserve the "free" meals to only missionaries. In fact a couple of weeks ago there were 2 young girls that came in and asked what could they get for $2.00 as that is all they had. Now these girls were I would say one was about 9 years old and the other one maybe 12. We fixed them a grilled ham and cheese sandwich each and some potato salad. I tried to talk to them to see why they hadn't eaten all day and they just said, "we forgot." I really didn't push it, but if they come back then I will get more information from them. They went to give me their money and I said that no, it was on me today - as I think any of us would. My goal is to make a little living while making others lives a bit better if possible. No one leaves hungry, even if it is a 2nd hamburger or sandwich that we make for them. Kinda like a "buffet" menu! However we make the huge deli sandwich's and most can't finish them anyway. So yes you are all welcome. See you soon? Marsha
  22. I feed the missionaries anytime that they come by. I own a restaurant and they know that if they want to eat or are hungry all they have to do is stop by and sign their guest check. I have asked that if they can that they leave a tip for the waitress, however I try and wait on them so they don't even have to do that. Shortly after opening in March, they came by. ALL 16 of them! Apparently there was a conference/meeting here in town for them. They had a good time, signed their ticket and left. I knew ahead of time that they would be in so I prepared for that. HOWEVER, I was told the wrong date............they came in a day ahead of time. Oh well, still it was good to see them all here. Marsha
La France me manque I ask you to excuse me, my dear brothers and French sisters, but it is true! During my mission, the members of the Church do not have to invite us on their premises often--one has to eat has the invitation of the friends of the Church more often than with you! But, I love you all the same. I miss France
  24. GB, I think she means crates or cages. I also have 2 Chihuahua's and soon to be a baby Chihuahua . They are wonderful dogs, mine aren't yappy either. But there are times that they have to go into their crate/kennel for their own safety, like if I am going to be gone for awhile. One is 8 lbs one is 6 lbs. I also have a Korean Jindo which is a medium sized 45 lb dog. He also goes in his crate at times. It is so cute to see the smaller one chasing the big dog, laying on his head, back and just generally tormenting him. Good luck with your move Winnie. Marsha
