  1. 2012 fiat 500 sport. Automatic. with no more smoke coming from the pipe, are we safe to drive? We were going to use this car to drive to Glacier National Park, a 14 hour drive (over the course of 3 days).
  2. Another example "John is just" what? Just what? read it as "just" being a virtue. "John is a just man" would make the statement less confusing. But "John is just" also works (though is less clear).
  3. Lol this has crossed my mind too before x) but I think when you shift the meaning from a statement to a declaration of a virtue, it makes more sense. "the church is true" vs "The church is true (to God)" kinda like "He is a true man"... well we all are true (biologically speaking) men, but that is not what is being said.
  4. If there is coolant leaking, will it always send white smoke out the tail pipe?
  5. "Keep the commandments, in this there is safety, in this there is peace"
  6. Besides running out of coolant, are there other problems that could arise?
  7. Not sure, I paid $90 for a diagnosis and they didn't find anything wrong. I'm hesitant to find another
  8. All the smoke was coming from the rear exhaust pipe My wife and I were going to take it to Glacier Nationak Park next week... but we ,ought be safer taking my car (which looks like a bit of anjunker, but runs well).
  9. My car had a oil change at a local dealership recently
  10. @Sunday21 It was billowing smoke... but again, there is no smoke anymore and the coolant is only barely below the minimum marker
  11. So a week ago my wife was driving with her friend and while ideling, the car started spewing white smoke. a few hours later after picking it up from the shop, there is only a littlesmoke. All the fluids are up to where they need to be (except transmission fluid, I'm not sure about that one, I can't check it on this car). Today I turned the car on and there is no smoke at all. The shop couldn't find anything wrong but made a few guesses on what it might be. Nothing for certain though. Any ideas? Is it fine to keep driving?
  12. I wasn't making a blanket statement that nobody knows God. But rather posing the question so that we can be more thoughtful on the words we use. I for one don't know, but am living my whole on faith that he is there and he does love us. And the question is based on the most literal and complete meaning of "know". It may suggest that they have seen God, spoken face to face, or have hugged him. I'm not much for judging every little word someone says because let's be honest. Compare the amount of ideas we convey every day with our mastery over the English language... you are going to mess up on occasion. In my experience, it is pretty easy to judge what someone is saying when they are saying it regardless of their mastery of the language. That being said, I am 100% for us paying more attention to the words we use because I feel it can grow our own testimony in gospel topics. I don't down anyone or think to myself "he doesn't KNOW" when they bare testimony and use those words. Those thoughts I have are there to remind myself that I really don't know, that I have yet to meet any celestial being face to face. That I am a faithful member of this church through faith and belief alone. ALSO "A testimony is usually defined as knowledge or assurance of a truth that a person declares by the convincing power of the Holy Ghost. The Apostle Paul taught, “No man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost” (1 Cor. 12:3). Because the things of God are known only by the power of the Spirit, they must be declared by the Spirit, and that means bearing testimony. Because a testimony is personal, testimony bearing often begins with the pronoun I. (Parents, missionaries, and Church leaders may at times use we.) A testimony can be identified by the use of powerful verbs such as know, testify, believe, certify, declare, affirm, bear witness, bear record.Often it is a declaration of what you know, feel, experience, or believe, such as “We listened, we gazed, we admired!” (JS—H 1:71, note). Generally speaking, a testimony is short, precise, and concise." (https://www.lds.org/ensign/2005/10/bearing-testimony?lang=eng) obviously we can use the word "know"... I'm not against it. As said previously, I just support any increase in attention to the words we use.
  13. @clbent04 I agree with what you are both saying. For one, do we really KNOW? And on the other hanf, communication is the point and I don't think anyone in the audience is thinking "He knows!? He has seen God!!" I do, though, think ANY increase cognitive effort in the words we use will aid in our spiritual growth and power in our testimony There was a time that I deliberately avoided the phrase "I know" and I used the words "I believe".
  14. As is politics what we agree on: - Discrimination is bad - Actions/thoughts based on a personal agendas are bad - All men and women are equal in rights what we don't agree on: - How much inequality there actually is between men and women - What feminism stands for
  15. Quotes for EVERY chapter in the D+C x) click on one and you will see what I mean
  16. I think he is trying to make us open minded. I met a lady on my mission that said "When we get to heaven, we are all going to stand in lines outside different doors with each of our religions written on them, and when we get inside our doors, we are going to see that we are all in the same place!" She was very wrong. There is one line and that is the Mormon/LDS line.
  17. A REALLY cool resources for sweet quotes attached to the D+C http://emp.byui.edu/ANDERSONR/itc/Doctrine_and_Covenants/dc_index.htm
  18. That doesn't change the fact that this is the only true church and only those that fully accept ALL the "Mormon" theology will be the ones that go to heaven. So we may not say "I'm a Mormon", but we will say something synonymous to it.
  19. I'm not much into reptiles. I prefer more warm blooded humanoid creatures.
  20. You are my favorite member of this forum x)
  21. And again, recognizing that one MAY be praying vainly is beneficial to us in that it reminds us to not do so. But we can't make that assumption and hold on to that assumption, but rather provide the benefit of the doubt that they are being sincere (even how unlikely it is), When I see another sin, I try to give them as much benefit of the doubt as I can. It makes me happier and keeps me from condemnation. Now I'm not perfect, I get pretty angry at people who have road rage (Ironic I know). I also get pretty frustrated when I feel like someone is being unjust or is refusing to repent (again... ironic I know).
  22. Because scripture tells us, we can say. "We must be obedient and faithful to be given our gifts. We then should use these gifts to do the work of the Lord. They are not given to satisfy our curiosity or to prove anything to us because we lack faith. Of spiritual gifts, the Lord said, “They are given for the benefit of those who love me and keep all my commandments, and him that seeketh so to do” (D&C 46:9)" -Gospel Principles Lesson 22 God would not give a spiritual gift to one if he is using it to complain about others Recognizing in someone's prayer that they may be using vain repetition would be beneficial for us as a reminder that we should not be vain and repetitious. But seeing that you made quite a spirited post on this subject suggests to me that you have extended beyond the stewardship of yourself and are making a statement to us that others are sinning in doing so. This is wrong and not of God. The opening phrase "Something that drives me nuts are the redundant phrases mindlessly repeated by some members of the Church" gives this away, that you are extending judgment to the person. And knowing that Satan can mimic spiritual gifts, it makes me think that he is doing so with you.
  23. So in that good ole Malachi 4:6 scripture stating "And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers", we have constantly related that to family history work and the "children" seeking out the "fathers" and doing their temple work. But what about the hearts of the Fathers to the children? Where does that come in? Does it just reference relationship building for those living? Or those in the spirit world looking to the children doing their work? I have recently come to the conclusion that the "heart of the fathers to the children" was referencing journal keeping among other things. What are your thoughts? has this day come? Lastly, do you keep a journal? If not, what is your justification for not doing so? I haven't found a good justification to not keep a regular journal yet and would like to use someone else's if they have one
  24. You need to watch some more survival horror movies (actually don't). The survival instinct is not naturally righteous. Killing another for his food so you can survive. That is evil. Stealing food from a store because you can't afford to feed your family. That is wrong. Survival by itself is natural man.
