  1. Heavenly Father can't dwell inside us. this may be slightly off topic, but can someone explain how God is Omnipresent? (https://www.lds.org/scriptures/gs/omnipresent)
  2. Yes, but in this particular scenario the friend is going on his own free will and the question is whether you would eat it or not when he got back with it (update: i realize now you also might be referencing comments made)
  3. Just a thought experiment I have considered before. you are at college and it is Sunday. All your roommates are LDS. One is inactive and one day you get home from church and you see that your inactive roommate bought pizza for everyone. Are you justified in eating it because you didn't buy it? IF YES: what if he asks everyone before hand if he wants them to buy pizza for them and asks what kind of pizza they like, are you justified then to tell him which pizza to buy? Or is that breaking the sabbath? IF NO (to originak question): If that is wrong, is it ok to allow others that are not Christian to work for you on the sabbath and for you to get it off? BONUS Qs: - Is working on the sabbath a sin, or just a suggestion of something to avoid for us to receive greater blessings? - Would the answer to the original question be different if the one buying pizza was not LDS? - Is the concept of allowing others to sin for your benefit evil? Explanatations of the why to your answers is required
  4. Calling it the wrong thing "A date is a planned activity that allows a young man and a young woman to get to know each other better" FTSOY So unless you both accidently showed up at the same place and same time (my 14 year old self tried to use this as justification to date before 16 often). Or you didn't want to get to know each other better... it was a date
  5. There has to be some Russian in her (edited) blood
  6. I went both ways. Had a TON of buddies and probably went on dates with 100+ different girls in highschool. But I know a lot of people don't like it. I love one on one communication and just having fun with a single girl (even in groupbdate settings this is possible). As far as you obviously bias list of things that come with dating that you can't have with friends... well... what you listed were things the brethren have told us to avoid. We should stay away from steady dating till we are ready to be married. We should plan cheap dates (which if you are creative isn't too difficult... and movies are a sure fire way of having a bad date unless you already know the person well and both have interest in the movie). People who date regularly (the truely elect of God) love to date. Those who don't date (those that rise in the 2nd resurrection) don't like to. There is no changing either side.
  7. My first 4 months of being 16 I had a date every weekend with a different girl. By 18 I was down to about 1-2 dates a month (still pretty good). I got married 11months after my mission. Dating is so fun! Marriage is a blast!! I don't understand why so many choose not to. I don't know if amount of dates is as important as just being anxiously engaged in finding a spouse. I have a few friends that date a ton, but aren't looking, and a few friends that are looking, but more selective in who they ask out.
  8. This may not be so in the moment, but I would much rather receive strength than relief. Something I have learned is that sometimes God will bless righteous saints to be healed from their sickness and other times he will bless them to enter into his rest. He will bless some valiant members with great big happy families and bless others with troubled children to be raised by great parents. He will bless some valiant members with freedom from their trials and others will face debilitating pain and handicaps their while lives. Some frugal, hard working saints will face financial difficulty while others won't. but one thing is ALWAYS for sure. Every righteous saint will enter the Celestial Kingdom. That is the ultimate blessing we should seek. Endurance to do what is right and the faith and patience to ensure all things. But to answer your question. Why not say "bless me with relief, but if that is not thy will then bless me with strength to endure"
  9. 1. Always bishop or president 'last name'. 2. Think of it this way. His title wasn't something he chose. It wasn't something he was given by some virtue he possessed. It was placed upon him by someone great and it is a responsibility to be greater than one will ever become. I don't know that anyone has the authority to ask others to call them by anything other than what their calling asks them to. Much like a rank in the army, the address the calling, not the man. I also believe the only two callings that supersede any church calling is husband/wife/Hubbie/MyMidnightMoonBeam/WhateverPetNameYouHave and father/mother am I wrong? My question is this. Is there ever a time that it is more appropriate to refer to your spouse by their calling? Maybe during a Ward council meeting or while speaking in general conference and your spouse is a president of a presiding quorum? (clarification: I believe God loves us more than he loves the calling, but one's title of bishop supersedes one's desire to not be called bishop. The title does not exist virtue of the person, nor does the person have control over the title, but is a trust placed upon them by the Lord)
  10. Either angels asvicate, or devil's devil advocate... however you want. There is no such thing as "I don't see color"... nor is there "I don't see culture". I work at a hotel and many guests get severely offended when the female front desk workers ask to help with bags. Here in the US, females get offended when people get offended at females doing anything. Like Vort, I don't discourage it... but you can't ignore the cultural conflicts. And I don't think a "one culture" world would really be all that great... I love the different cultures and when Zion is fully established and the milenium brought about, I imagine we will need all those cultures (as long as they conform to the standards of the gospel).
  11. Well maybe you should strive to be worthy to live in a home that compares to the temple. And as far as who to invite, those home owners and dwellers can make educated assessments. My brother had a friend who swore a ton, was rude, and stole his money. He got kicked out. I have a friend that swore (though tried not to in my home) was polite, and gay. He could stay.
  12. I agree, but I think the problem is when a friend consistently comes over on casual visits and let's loose his/her mouth, watches explicit movies, gossips, etc. Inviting friends like this over for fellowship, with missionaries maybe, on special occasions is great! Helps in the spreading of the gospel. But we we permit those evils in our home, our home no longer becomes as sacred as it should be. after all "Only the home can compare with the temple in sacredness.” - Bible Dictionary "temple"
  13. "We realize that the Word of Wisdom does not advocate total vegetarianism when we read another scripture: “And whoso forbiddeth to abstain from meats, that man should not eat the same, is not ordained of God; “For, behold, the beasts of the field and the fowls of the air, and that which cometh of the earth, is ordained for the use of man for food and for raiment, and that he might have in abundance.” (D&C 49:18–19; see also 1 Tim. 4:1–3.) What is meat’s nutritional value? It contains good quality protein and iron. The general nutritional composition of eggs is enough like meat that they are considered a “meat alternate.” Milk and cheeses are also high in protein, but contain calcium instead of iron. Dried peas and beans such as pigeon peas, navy beans, and soybeans contain moderate to high quality protein as well as some iron, so these may be used as meat alternates. Grains contain less protein than most of these other foods; it’s also of poorer quality. However, grain protein contributes to the day’s total, especially when eaten with meat or meat alternates. Vegetables contain only small amounts of protein, and fruits practically none at all. Thus a diet which relies totally on grains, fruits, and vegetables usually means protein deficiency. In addition to protein, meats provide us with several of the vitamins in the vitamin B group: thiamin, niacin, riboflavin, pantothenic acid, pyridoxine. One member of this group, vitamin B12, is found only in meat, milk, cheese, and eggs; thus strict vegetarians must take a vitamin B12 supplement to avoid eventual irreversible damage to their spinal cord. Meats also contribute to a full feeling after a meal, because they contain some fat, which stays in our stomach longer than the other nutrients. However, we are admonished to use meat sparingly. This caution is certainly understandable considering how heavily nineteenth-century Americans relied on meat when the Word of Wisdom was given. But even in our day of more balanced diets, we are aware of some problems when the meat intake is very high, as advocated by some dieters or by athletes who do not understand muscle physiology. When meat makes up the main part of our food intake, we crowd out other foods and, consequently, their nutrients. In a recent extreme example, a widower had milk for breakfast, a hamburger for lunch, and steak for dinner. He disliked onions and other vegetables, thought potatoes were “fattening,” and was not interested in fruit. He developed scurvy! 5 Meats are also sources of fat, primarily saturated fat, and cholesterol. People who need to cut down their total calories may need to cut down on the total amount of fat in their diet. Individuals who have some of the risk factors associated with cardiovascular disease may need to limit their intake of saturated fat and cholesterol as well as total fat and calories. Table 1 shows the fat and cholesterol content of some foods, but individual recommendations for intake vary." - Lora Beth Larson It is amazing what we learn when we listen to and read General Conference
  14. For the 3rd Q... there should be a "whatever they find best" option or something like that
  15. @person0 I about made the Battalion Drum a Bugle Corp in Provo... but chose to get married instead not enough money to do both
  16. No, I think animals have spirits. just from a philosophical view, how animals can perceive, feel emotion, desire things, have fear, and the biggest convincing factor of all is that they seem to recognie and follow things are good and avoid and fear things that are evil
  17. Just tell the branch president man! I would Do it just for the emotional relief honestly. It is a hard transition that one needs to make I situations like this. You can either remain what In can call the "Luke warn" section of the gospel where everything you do is for fellowship and for friends. Don't get stuck living the gospel in a way where your worth is base do on what others think Build your testimony, of you aren't living the way you should, then repent change everything! Become a spiritual power house. What do spiritual power houses do? They repent as soon as they sin and do whatever is necessary to get back on track! Trust me, of people notice, it will only inspire those that want to become better and they will forever look up to you. this is not a gospel where the prophets and apostles, 70s, stake presidents, and bishops are all perfect. This is a church where the greatest leaders have sinned and repented. The greatest leaders on my mission have had some of the greatest repentance stories. Be that great leader that spits in the face of sin, and of sin gets the best of you, spit in the face of pride, bcom humble, and repent that is where joy is found! This line you have to cross will take you from the secular, cold, "what will people think of me" section to the "like unto Moroni" Inconvenient Fearless Satan Slayer (TM) section! Read the account of Corianton, who struggled greatly with sexual sin, in Alma 39. After, read Alma 48:17-18. ALL of Alma's children were like unto Moroni. EVEN CORIANTON So regardless whether you are guilty or not of great sin, speaking tonyou is bishop will help a ton
  18. Whenever I read or think about things like this, I am reminded of a book my friend showed me titled "gospel trilogy" by Cleone Skousen. It's a as of a much a deep book talk as you could ever find. The first section essentially explains the beginning of spirits and how what animal we are is based on how much responsibility we desired (much like those who want to be like god go to th celestial kingdom and those who don't go elsewhere), what we are made of, how miracles occur, how everything that changes (physical or chemical) has a soul of some sort, and here is the kicker, explains how the atonement was possible... ...A very interesting read but rather skeptical of how true it is...
  19. I wish that could happen in my home town! It's much larger than Cedar City and Cedar City has their temple almost finished ?. But from what I hear, my home town makes up a large portion of the SLC temple
  20. I bet if we fully understood the blessings of the temple, we would have no probablem or complaint of keeping one open just for a single person (assuming if of course keeping that open didn't interfere with other more populated temples staying open). I bet Heavenly Father has some amazing blessings for those temple workers that sacrifice so much to keep the temple running in places like Detroit" I wonder if we should be praying for the temple workers as much as we pray for missionaries Keep it up!
  21. Do rock and have souls?? (Half sarcastic half curious to your response)
  22. Prison Chaplin made a comment in a different thread which sparked this question. Do animals have souls?? I accept philosophical, spiritual, theological, factual, and humorological answers.
  23. I think it is more interesting that 93% of people don't know chocolate milk comes from brown cows xD
