  1. Never thought of it like that, I always thought Jesus was in heaven with God, until he was born to Mary
  2. Complete newbie un-educated question but why should we be storing that much food? Is food storage a recommendation from the church? Is so why? Sorry for all the questions but I'm an investigator and I've not heard of this
  3. @askandanswer I just wanted your explanation of why you said the above, I didn't expect you to bother your son on his mission (though it was super nice of you to do so). I was interested in your thoughts and why you said the above, I just don't understand how serving a mission can effect your future children (I'm assuming your son doesn't have any children yet?) and wife and cause them to lose out? Lose out on what exactly I guess is my question?
  4. Hey can you please explain what you mean by this. I honestly don't understand. I'd appreciate it if you could explain it to me, like what are their future children and wives missing out on because they didn't go on a mission? And does this mean that women are more interested in marrying someone who has served a mission?
  5. I agree its a personal choice, I don't think a young man (or woman) should feel pressured to give up 2 years (18 mths) of their life to promote their church if they don't have the testimony to do so. Someone who doesn't want to go on a mission should not be viewed any differently than someone who does. The world is a hard place to make a living these days, its a critical time in young peoples lives to make sure they are on track with their careers.
  6. 1 TIMOTHY 3:15

But if I should be delayed, I have written so that you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God’s household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.

  7. I agree with you, it does say that, which means the church at the very least 'recommends' that girls wear dresses or skirts. It bothers me too, I'm sure you looked perfectly respectable in your dress pants.
  8. Maybe its just your ward? The ward I have been attending is pretty 'old school' in its beliefs but women wear pants to church there.
  9. I don't start out hostile, but I do defend myself when hostility or antagonistic comments are thrown my way
  10. You need to chill out, some chick went to church in nice dress pants and got told to wear dresses. I'm entitled to think that the person who told her that was acting like a jerk when he told her. I'm also entitled to think that you need to calm down. I think you're looking too far into it, I myself try not to live like that, I believe it would be exhausting and a waste of my time. You can think whatever you like but I doubt I'll respond to it anymore.
  11. Bottom line is there is no rule against wearing pants to church, and if someone - anyone - male or female says to someones face to stop wearing pants to church, then they are acting very inappropriately and, depending on their position in the church quite possibly abusing their authority. There is nothing else to consider in this situation (and that is what we are discussing, this situation), the OP said she wore 'nice dress pants' not ripped hooker jeans. And no one said the guy who asked her to stop wearing pants was white.
  12. Well I certainly wouldn't intentionally stop wearing pants because it annoyed someone, thats their problem not mine
  13. Wearing pants to church is not wrong, if it annoys some 'old school stuffed shirt' then good, he obviously needs to learn to not be so judgemental.
  14. I'd wear pants on purpose from now on, just to annoy him and let him know he can't tell me what to do - but thats just me!
  15. I'm an investigator not a member. I don't think anyone deserves to be murdered by another, no matter what the circumstances. I don't believe in the death penalty, I don't think any human has the right to decide if another lives or dies. History is full of horrific acts, religious history especially, that's not an excuse its just a fact. I don't think the church is hiding it, sure the missionaries don't talk about it when they knock on your door, but it is on the church website if you want to look at it.
  16. This is a very stressful series of events to happen in a marriage. I think you both went outside of your marriage just to 'feel something' again, a distraction from all the stress and pressure of reality. Instead of turning to each other. If you are both willing your marriage can survive this, love each other unconditionally, talk honestly and openly to each other without judgement. Spend time together, find things you can do together. Don't give up on each other.
  17. Stay out of it and don't get involved in any gossipy conversations, if one of them starts gossiping to you simply ask 'why are you telling me this'. Stops gossip in its tracks
  18. I you need it, and you're entitled to it, then you should not feel uncomfortable or ashamed of it.
  19. Be honest with your daughter, tell her you found her notebook and that you weren't snooping but you are worried about how she is feeling about the stuff she wrote about what her mother told her about the church. Just talk to her, find out what she thinks and feels about the situation. Be kind and listen to her, let her know that she can say whatever she likes to you and you will still be there for her. She might surprise you, kids have their own minds, the poor kid is obviously being manipulated by her mother, show her her father has her best interests at heart and cares about what she thinks and feels. Questions are good, you can show her the answers.
  20. Thanks everyone, that really helps, I originally gave up meat when I first read the Word of Wisdom, at first I felt great, but lately I'm tired all the time and am wanting to go back to eating meat (not gorging on it or anything!), I was feeling really guilty about it but I think I'm ok with it now, so thank you
  21. I’ve noticed that there are vast differences on how LDS members live the Word of Wisdom. I was wondering if there were any ‘modern day revelation’ that helps to clarify it – like general conference or president teachings etc. Hot drinks = coffee and tea – anyone know where that clarification came from? No alcohol – but it says drinks made from barely are ok – beer’s made from barley so I’m guessing there must be further revelation on that? But what about the meat thing? Any modern day revelation or teaching on that? I’ve heard members say ‘its up to the individual’ but it does read that if we want to please God we shouldn’t eat meat unless its winter, cold or a famine, or for thanksgiving but sparingly. Tobacco – straight forward, don’t do it! I’d love any insight you guys have on this, what your personal interpretation is and any links to church leaders speaking on this would be fantastic. Thanks for reading!
  22. I'm studying at the moment, and I read the scriptures before study, then a prayer, I find it helps me focus. Of course I read them after studying too but just a little reading before studying really helps my mindset
  23. Hows all that liberty working out for you? At least when I pick a school to send my children too I don't have to ask myself - 'has there been a shooting there and do they have a metal detector at the gate?' Anyway I'm out of this thread, good luck with your guns
  24. No you're not hearing me correctly, I simply said that since gun control happened in Australia we haven't had a mass shooting incident. I think gun control is a good idea, because it makes it harder for nut jobs and any random person from getting their hands on a gun. In Australia to get a gun you have to go through a strict process that includes gun training. How anyone can think that is a bad idea is beyond me. Perhaps if there were gun control laws in America those poor children would still be alive, and to me that would be worth people having to fill out some extra paperwork, join a gun club, be properly trained and have some accountability to how they store and use their guns. I'm out of this thread before some gun happy American red neck shoots me And I watch the news thank you very much, and you really should have mentioned Snowtown and Ivan Milat as well, they were pretty horrific - and Ivan had a gun because of the loophole in our gun laws that allows all farmers to be armed
