  1. Sorry but there are plenty of people currently fleeing wars and who have seen their families wiped out. A little infogram I used in class recently to start a discussion on this topic:
  2. But you fought a war to be rid of us!!!
  3. @Jane_Doe Neuro Typical has hit the nail on the head. I cant judge them too harshly as they dont understand how I strongly I feel.
  4. Thanks everyone for your support. Attitude at work very different and line manager IT & HR don't understand why I am so upset. My number has been frozen so all calls now have to go through main reception and I have to inform police (tried this morning but cut off after 45 mins on hold).
  5. Tory Brexit Blue how apt
  6. Thanks everyone for the advice, sorry I got in a bit of a tiz last night. @zil if the person had not addressed me by my name (only my first name) I would have assumed the same.
  7. The media coverage here is terrible - so much energy going into reporting "both sides" of the debate, very difficult to know what is actually going on. Are the US media generally for or against?
  8. Thank Chaps, @Jane_Doe I cant block the number as it has been withheld. But will just not log into emails until Monday and then forward to my line manager and HR. Wondering where they got my number from. The website for work only gives the number for main reception. I would hate to think that a student would put my number somewhere unsavoury.

    Brexit

So its all over the news here on a daily basis, pundit after pundit weighing in..... Wondering what views are held abroad about the whole Brexit rigmarole
  10. Sorry Chaps it's silly o'clock in the morning here in the UK and I need a bit of hand holding; so venting here. I made the mistake of checking my work emails and found 19 phone messages (we have an online phone service and messages are saved as emails). Assuming it was a student who was desperately trying to get hold of me I started listening to the first one sent late Friday evening. It was someone who used my name and claimed to have my number from a magazine and started to ask for very graphic sexual services. I hung up as soon as I realised what it was, but got some very explicit language which has left me rather shocked. The fact that it is 19 messages over the course of 2 days with the last one left less than an hour ago has left me feeling very rattled and upset. In fact I am surprised how much this has upset me and spooked me. I will obviously contact work on Monday morning and expect this will be dealt with by HR. Please feel free to tell me not to be so silly.

  12. SO? Elder Oaks marriage choices are hardly relevant to your argument. Look at the membership and see how many never married (straight) women there are who accept chastity to remain in good standing in the church.
  13. I am not sure why you have detracted again from transgender to gay. This is your opinion and experience; that's fine. However some of us have different experiences. I know a long term, faithful, temple recommend holding, gay member. He is well respected and a huge contributor to my old ward. He lives the law of chastity, THE SAME as all the long term single members. I assume he can not be the only one. Could it be that we just don't hear from these members as they don't have a public agenda to push?
  14. No idea what the statistics are....but looking round my female heavy ward would generally agree. However 2 weeks ago I had the exact opposite (Friday night after work so maybe that's the difference) and had 3 sisters and nearly 20 men. Last week was stake session and again more men than women. Will see what the ratio is tonight and see if there is a pattern emerging.
  15. I am having an issue at work as I am expected to teach about transexuals and their rights. I have stated that I will not teach that tutorial but the college can provide someone to stand in on my behalf if its essential to the tutorial program. Apparently I can't do this. I am also being challenged as I set an assignment which involved designing a fitness plan for a specific person and pointing out that there are basic physiological differences for males and females (and ages). Yes I have pointed out I am just stating scientific FACTS. BONKERS
  16. Going back to the original question.... This is why I don't read the "Daily Fail" (no it's not a typo)... MY EYES!! I don't understand either the desire to be transgender or that age Although there are certainly days I don't want to "adult" anymore. Anyone want to adopt me?
  17. Living in the UK probably makes me biased. My experience of the National Health Service pts me in a strong Pro position
  18. I would be FAR from upset (my reading is very rarely textbooks for my subjects its mostly research papers or government produced documents). You would not be emailing me asking me to explain basic concepts and would go away and study anything you needed to. I do explain that all students in each class can get a 2.1 or a 1st for each module but that will require reading around the subject and having a knowledge of current industry practices and research.
  19. I am on both sides of the fence. Completed a taught Masters a year ago and now lecturing undergrads. As a student I noticed a change in approach from my undergrad days (over 20 years ago) and was frustrated when set "research tasks". Would much rather be lectured at for 3 hours and discuss the content to get a basis for the rest of my study. But then again I was always the nerd in the front who had done the reading prior the lecture, and was shocked by those who rolled up and had no idea what the lecture was going to be about. IMO inclusivity reduced the amount of content we covered. As a lecturer it was a bit of a shock for my students that I assign reading for each lecture (identified on their scheme of work) and then proceed to teach assuming they have done it...they soon learnt to do it or feel lost. I have had a few complaints as program lead, but reminded students that it was clearly on the scheme of work presented to them at the beginning of each module and that that they are expected to be independent learners. I am shocked at how much students expect lecturers to do for them and how little they expect to take ownership of their own learning. I come from a secondary school teaching environment and can honestly say that I taught 11 year olds with a better work ethic . It could be the subject I am teaching (vocational basis), there is certainly a difference between students who enter from a more academic bases rather than with vocational quals. It could also be that the much smaller class sizes on these courses (I was used to a couple of hundred in a lecture hall during my undergrad years) change the dynamics of the teaching.

  22. Unfortunately as common sense is less than common there would be too few people able to join I would go Monty Python style: Judean People's Front or People's Front of Judea or the Judean Popular People's Front or The Popular Front
  23. Unfortunately a bit too far from the UK to make it, but lovely to see that you are making a difference
  24. I stumbled across this when browsing during my lunch.... https://www.mormon.org/christmas/day-of-service Surprised that this is the first I have heard of it. And now looking for inspiration to participate. What are you all planning?
