  1. Other kids in the high school have said this. Although i would hope it is highly unlikely does not mean it doesn't happen and in this case I have heard it from enough people at my old high school there I would believe it. There is an article in the OC register than does talk about some of the violence and sign destruction that has gone on. see News: Proposition 8 | signs, sign, ban, vandalism, people - OCRegister.com and a blog entry
  2. Rastler i was referring/ referencing to Rameumptoms comment of "We live in a society where violence and sex are worshiped, truth is relative and meaningless, and true God fearing people are in the definite minority." It is that society that I fear raising my children in Rastler- I do not know you and have no idea about your home environment so I could not comment on whether or not you are providing a healthy environment to raise your family in. I was referring to an environment, lifestyle, religious upbringing and so forth that I would like in my home.
  3. How true that is. Makes me sad as I think of raising my kids in such an environment. Motivates me to make sure my home is a strong healthy environment to raise them in
  4. My family in Ca has had some issues with putting signs in their front yard. They are constantly vandalized and it has become a huge problem as this is a misdemeanor in CA. Unfortunately it looks like it is a high school group that is supported by a teacher there. It is getting "ugly" and my family is anxious for the election.
  5. Same-Sex Marriage and Proposition 8 - LDS Newsroom Last link on this page is Additional videos explaining the Church’s stance on this issue are available on PreservingMarriage.org If you support your church leaders you support prop 8. No if, ands, or buts.
  6. It is a struggle for your soul right now and it is going to take constant daily work on your part for the rest of your life. Keep working and it will come. Read the Book of Mormon like you would the Bible. Also pray before you pick it up and read it daily. I don't doubt it will come and you will be that much stronger in your testimony if you have to work at it. The Lord since the beginning of days rewards those and will often make sure you have proved yourself before giving what He knows we need.
  7. I think the only member of the Quorum of the 12 that could comment on that would be Elder Oaks as he is the one with law experience. However I would be interested in that because I dont remember hearing it.
  8. Welcome Iron Lion. Where in Oz are you from?
  9. I would check out History of Joseph Smith by his mother Lucy Mack Smith. Also Lectures on Faith by Joseph Smith is another good one. The Doctrines of Salvation listed is a good one, also I second the Jeffrey R. Holland Book. You have already read some great books, but you could throw in Mortal Messiah by Bruce R. McConkie.
  10. Wow that is a crazy story. Unfortunately for him he will be accountable for what he did not do and should have done.
  11. I remember talking to someone who was of another faith and I cannot remember what faith he was but he said that he did not believe that the Savior was born in December. I laughed and asked why because we did not believe that either. He said shepherds would not have been in the fields with their flocks in the middle of winter. I told him I never thought of that but mainly because I am not a shepherd (although I heard Fletch was )
  12. ceeboo- I figure if you cannot laugh at yourself what fun is there in life. Goofball is an appropriate name for me
  13. Problem with just googling a topic is that you will find more anti-Mormon stuff which is full of lies rather than what we actually believe in
  14. Are you looking for anything particular or just generalized "deep doctrine" I think I know what you are looking for and don't know if it exists on a webpage where you can access something that will satisfy what you are looking for. It might be easier if you had a particular topic you were interested in, posted about that, and people here may be able to point you in that direction. I would say the 13 articles of faith is a great spring board to learn what we believe. There is a great book by James Talmage called the Articles of Faith. Keep studying, and it will come. (That last line reminded me of a great movie. If you build it, they will come. Can you name that movie)
  15. Dude check out the scriptures. Doesn't get any "harder" than that. You will find the doctrines you are looking for and can spend your whole life studying it and still not know much about it, i.e. the Atonement, meaning of life, etc.
  16. Salvation is much different than exaltation
  17. Go Byu Cougars
  18. I would say that Yes is the answer to your question. We need the ordinances in order to enter Paradise which is why it is SO important to do temple work.
  19. Justice-Check out the Bible Dictionary about that and it will shed light on that scripture you listed. Pretty good stuff
  20. We actually went over this in a sunday school lesson a few weeks ago. I posted it here http://www.lds.net/forums/lds-gospel-discussion/13428-ordinances-necessary-spirit-paradise.html because it was a such a hot topic. I need to find the resources but the teacher read out of manual indicating that yes people are placed into SP until their work is done. The Gospel principles manual says this "The Apostle Peter referred to the spirit world as a prison, which it is for some (see 1 Peter 3:18–20). In the spirit prison are the spirits of those who have not yet received the gospel of Jesus Christ. These spirits have agency and may be enticed by both good and evil. If they accept the gospel and the ordinances performed for them in the temples, they may prepare themselves to leave the spirit prison and dwell in paradise." You can see it here LDS.org - Sunday School Chapter Detail - The Postmortal Spirit World
  21. I have enjoyed listening to old talks and thought I would share it with everyone in case it is new info. The link is Speeches Website and you can search by author or subject. Enjoy
