  1. Is your home open to the other child? Can you have the sleepover at your place?
  2. Based on your feelings on the issue, you probably don't need to talk with your Bishop... But you really should talk with your dad. The same man may be both, but being a Bishop shouldn't separate him from you. You can always go to your dad. Or, failing that, go ahead and talk to your mom. And, like Skal said, I don't think worthiness is a problem.
  3. I've never heard a wedding or engagement announced during general announcements. In Elder's Quorum it's met (in my experience) with friendly jeering and congratulations, not silence. I don't know how it is in Relief Society.
  4. Islander, I think you're off on a different trail of thought than DS was original referring to. When we're referring to "morals" we're not referring to our OWN morals. Every individual has a moral code, and all cultures have one, too. This is the assumption that we're making. What the discussion is about is where our morals come from. Where does the decision to believe it's okay to take someone's wife and kill the husband, because you want to, come from? You said it's from "trial and error" handed down "generation to generation." Great. But the question then is... "WHY are the trying and erring in the first place?"
  5. I think the instruments thing depends on the Bishop, though I'm sure most wouldn't considered a drum set to be reverent. I've always wondered about the clapping thing, too. There's been many times where I've had to try very hard not to clap, especially after musical numbers and primary events. Sometimes I just need to physically express my enthusiasm, enjoyment, and appreciation.
  6. I'm not sure how I'd fit on the scale. I take much of it on faith, yet I surely believe in science. I just do not have faith that science has mastered everything to prove/disprove one way or another. So is there a 1a) Decide to take it all on faith, knowing that some day it'll all be explained?
  7. Perhaps you misunderstood what I was saying. But hopefully I can both clarify and back it up with a few verses: Emphasis added.
  8. As both science (mathematics) and faith progress we consistently find that they become united. (Sociology, health, whatever it may be) The simple fact is that both seek Truth, and ultimately there is but one source of Truth. As the two separate paths draw nearer it must needs be that they converge Math is the "universal language." It is ever-present in the universe. It is a language built on laws. We have learned it in steps... Line upon line. Precept upon precept. It's an extension of the Priesthood, or in other words, it is the Will and Authority of God in action.
  9. I generally refer to this thread as a quick reference, so I'm sure I've linked and quoted it a few times. There's a discussion on it linked in the post above yours. This topic is stickied so that it's always at the top of the page.
  10. I've been to a park with those. Just called it Frisbee golf, Some of the "holes" were by the little lake. Bad idea, lol.
  11. I doubt they'd be there anymore. The LORD can move mountains. I'm sure moving the contents of a cave is easy enough. :) But, I believe it's either in JS-H or the Scriptures that it states there WILL be more records to come forth, of other peoples. When and where is not specified.
  12. As an investigator, I don't really remember caring, A brief mention of Abraham and whoever else, and all was good in my book. I'm so unusual.
  13. I think that they make it clear the Hell itself is not a good place to be. But, the word Sheol, from what I understand, refers more to the afterlife, which was believed to have 2 parts: Paradise and Prison. I use those terms for the two concepts, because that is what LDS believe, as well. Before Heaven even, there is the spirit world which consists of Spirit Paradise and Spirit Prison. I think the 2nd quote I provided early is a good source for that, but I have read it elsewhere.
  14. It seems my warning: Was unheeded by some. So for those who participated justly, I'm sorry, but this thread has been closed.
  15. Word Search: hell 26 hits for the word "Hell" in the OT. As opposed to 16 for the NT. (This does not include "perdition" "damnation" "lake of fire") However, according to Strong's Concordance, the word from which Hell is translated, Sheol, appears more often, having 65 occurrences. They definitely believed in an afterlife.
  16. I had fun! I got injured! But I want to do it again, lol.
  17. Then what's frisbee football?
  18. Okay, I'm playing tonight... But I don't know all the rules. And frankly, I suck. So how all is it played? And any advice to help my clumsy self from not falling on my face too often?
  19. We had Canadian missionaries (2 of 'em) in my last ward. One was there for 7 months... The other was there for the last 4 months of that.
  20. Well, I know that they're keeping beat. I just can't do the motions! Also, I'm too busy trying to look at the notes so I'm not as horribly off pitch as I could be. (Still pretty bad, though.) I can't watch them conduct, too!
  21. When is it that you're not allowed to hold a calling?
  22. I just moved from Dubuque, myself. Thanks for the info. I hope you make yourself "at home" here.
  23. As I understand it, the Ward Reps are supposed to be the Liaison that helps coordinate activities between the Ward and the Stake. At least that's part of the YSA Rep calling description. So, if you know who the Stake SA reps are, get a hold of them.
