  1. I have been blessed to have been called as the Gospel Principles teacher in my branch. There is so much light and knowledge in this book. I grateful to have received this calling as I know I am learning more than anyone in the entire class.
  2. I know that all of the Journal of Discourses is not doctrine. But focusing on the historical point you brought out something interesting that Brigham Young taught on and I thought I would expand on it for whoever desired to read it. What I wrote before is doctrine that the church recognizes. "The Apostle John taught that “the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son” (John 5:22). The Son, in turn, will call upon others to assist in the Judgment. The Twelve who were with him in his ministry will judge the twelve tribes of Israel (see Matthew 19:28; Luke 22:30). The Nephite Twelve will judge the Nephite and Lamanite people (see 1 Nephi 12:9–10; Mormon 3:18–19). President John Taylor said the First Presidency and the Twelve Apostles in our own dispensation will also judge us." --Gospel Principles, Chapter 46
  3. This isn't any new doctrine. Christ has given the keys of judgment to His servants in many dispensations. His servants will take no different judgment than He would. They will judge perfectly as He will make them perfect judges. I take joy in the truth that if I am faithful, Jesus will be my advocate in this judgment. Christ taught the following recorded in the book of Matthew chapter 19: 27 Then answered Peter and said unto him, Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed thee; what shall we have therefore? 28 And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
  4. I find that story very amusing. Perot won 18.8% of the popular vote in 1992 and had no electoral votes.
  5. You don't have to have just one favorite scripture. Post a few or just one of your favorites. One of my favorites in the book of Proverbs is: "For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief." Proverbs 24:17 A man or woman who is good and just isn't perfect. When they fall and make errors they learn from the experience and rise thru the power of the atonement of Christ to continue on the strait and narrow path to eternal life. "Spiritual submissiveness is not accomplished in an instant, but by the incremental improvements and by the successive use of stepping-stones. Stepping-stones are meant to be taken one at a time anyway. Eventually our wills can be swallowed up in the will of the Father as we are willing to submit, even as a child doth submit to his father" -- Neal A. Maxwell
  6. We hope all goes well for you on your return. I will pray for you.
  7. It would probably be more effective to contact my local television station rather than Carl's Jr. Any advice?
  8. My wife just told me about a new offensive television ad that is running. I am not going to be silent about it. The ads feature a teacher who dances on her desk and touches her backside while rappers in the classroom talk about her "flat buns." The new Carl's Jr. spot (airing as a Hardee’s ad in some markets) is for the chain’s patty melt, which is served on flat buns. Carl’s Jr.’s evp of marketing, Brad Haley, defends the spot, saying “it’s meant to be funny, silly, interesting and not as a social statement.” Visit the below website for a phone number and e-mail address if you wish to voice your opinion about it. http://www.susanohanian.org/show_atrocities.html?id=7468
  9. I will pray for you Bunzy. I hope Heavenly Father helps you to obtain your temple recommend.
  10. Perhaps if the man believed his body was a temple he would clean himself up.
  11. We had our lesson on the law of chastity today. The teacher taught from the lesson manual and also implemented materials from Elder Holland's talk on “Of Souls, Symbols, and Sacraments.” It wasn't a mundane teacher read to the class lesson with no one speaking except the teacher. One point our teacher made was the Lord does not rank very many sins in seriousness, but has set the denial of the Holy Ghost, murder and unchastity as the most serious of sins. We also talked about the Apostle Paul's teachings in I Corinthians 6:19-20 the scriptures: ". . . know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price . . ." This truth countered with the world's teaching of: "it's my body and I can do what I want with it." There were also positive teachings of the sacred power God has given His children to bring other spirits into the world and of the joy that marriage intimacy can bring to a married couple. I thought it was a good lesson and I was glad I was able to attend it that day.
  12. Look on E-bay for it. A fair price for it is around $25 in total costs. Another name for it is Swiss SoFlower.
  13. I am going to use NIKKEN SWISS SOFLOWER instead of the other product. They don't advertise as far as I know, but I like the results the product gives.
  14. I have decided against purchasing any Oil of Olay products made by Proctor and Gamble due to their sexual advertising. I just sent them an electronic mail. It read: Proctor and Gamble, I am writing to inform you that your Oil of Olay Regenerist product is very good. However, some of your advertising on television and in magazines is sexually explicit in nature particularly your Olay Quench advertising. Due to the offensive advertisments I have decided against purchasing Oil of Olay Regenerist products in the future until these ads have been removed. If anyone else wants to electronic mail them their address is: [email protected]
  15. I think that Isaiah 53:2 is taken out of context in this matter. This point has been told to me before about this scripture. I do not read into this scripture that the Savior looked homely. But He was not rich in wealth and He did not wear expensive clothing that would impress others. There was certainly no beauty in Him that the prideful or rich would look at and impressed with. I have also come to the conclusion that looks mean little nowadays. If anyone has money they can buy comeliness. Look at some of the famous and rich in Hollywood. Many of them have had cosmetic surgery but lack the finer things in life that are eternal.
  16. My wife and I were planning to do some temple work on September 6th and found out the Palmyra Temple was closed for maintenance. *Sigh* It's been several months since I have been inside. It is about a five hour drive to and from the House of the Lord from where I live. I miss the days I lived in Utah.
  17. Regarding my afore commentary about the lesson being very negative on unchastity, I didn't mean that the lesson made me uncomfortable when I read it with my wife. I just thought that there should have been more positive teachings on how physical intimacy in a marriage is good and approved of by the Lord. The lesson seemed to teach very little positive about the law of chastity and focused on the wickedness that is rampant in our telestial world.
  18. While I don't think there is any official church doctrine on whether there are sexual relations between husband and wife after the resurrection, there is one point of doctrine that is made clear. Only those who have inherited the celestial kingdom and received their exaltation will have spirit children.
  19. We haven't had our lesson on the Law of Chastity yet. We are going to have it next Sunday. I was just talking to my Elder's Quorum president and he said that the lesson seemed too negative. He told me he was going to use the lesson but implement other materials as well. I will tell you how it goes.
  20. When she and her husband left the White House they stole a lot of furniture. I think that Hillary said they put it all back. Somehow I find her statement hard to believe.
  21. Last night, Senator Hillary Clinton hosted a party in her home. People said it was a lot like the parties she used to host at the White House. In fact, even the furniture was the same.
  22. Why is it many read the scriptures that they start at the beginning and read until the end? I study the scriptures by subject or just open and start reading where I feel like. I get more out of my reading doing it this way rather than front to back. If you are having a hard time with Isaiah just skip it and come back to it later in your reading.
  23. I have many favorite scriptures, but here are a few my favorites: John 7:16-17 "Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself." John 8:31-32 "Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." I really like the above scriptures because it is a way to gain a knowledge that Christ's teachings are true. If we obey God's commandments and live in accordance with His will, we will gain a witness that it is true. Here's also one of President Hinckley's favorites as well: Doctrine & Covenants 50:23-24 "And that which doth not edify is not of God, and is darkness. That which is of God is light; and he that receiveth light, and continueth in God, receiveth more light; and that light groweth brighter and brighter until the perfect day."
