  1. I don't think anyone really thinks Bush is unintelligent. Maybe these might help explain where McCartney was coming from YouTube - Bush Blair Press Conference UK Bush's stupidity is a caricature, usually someone in public life sets themselves up for something. Examples in the UK would be Mrs Thatcher as an SS officer or the wonderful spitting image and took her cabinet out for dinner, waiter asked her what she would have for dinner, she asked for a rare steak. Then the waiter says but what about the vegetables she says looking at her cabinet they'll have the same as me. Roy Hattersly (former Deputy Prime Minister) sort of spit a bit over his words so when his character covered everyone with buckets of spittle when he spoke. We had one portrayed as Tarzan swinging from trees, Prince Phillip is usually portrayed as a loudmouth git, even the Queen has had a variety of caricatures over the years. Bush made Bushisms all his own and quite frankly they are the one thing I actually might feel affectionate about him over its his thing people ask about Obamaisms but lets face it they are never as funny. Blair is smarmy. The library comment probably comes from a famous shot here where Bush jnr was sitting next to his wife during a visit to the library reading a children's book he is holding upside down:) If Paul McCartney was intending to cause problems or do Bush down he could have picked on the war or something. He didn't it was a joke based on something Bush is worldwide famous for. Its a bit early for Obama to have a set caricature, my favourite so far was done by an American , something about this guy is more Obama than Obama lol I still have to work to recognise the real one. We have someone like that here Tony Blair's right hand man Alaister Campbell I still look at him and don't recognise him because the impressionist was more Alaister Campbell.Bush Snr at least said he liked Spitting Image, whether he really did or not I don't know. But all that is being said here is that Bush Jnr has 0 sense of humour about himself. And to be honest this thread it a little like a British Cartoon on the American Sense of Humour.
  2. He said “After the last eight years, it’s great to have a President who knows what a library is,” McCartney quipped. That is not the office he is taking a pop at its George W Bush' . However it is clear whoever wrote the quote picked up it was intended as a joke, hence the word quipped. I don't have the tone but if the comment was intended to offend anyone it was Bush Jnr. And maybe that is what he intended I don't know, part of the beauty of freedom of speech and the position he is in, he can say it and ultimately its not going to do his image any harm here I doubt. He's not an elected official, he's not an American Citizen. He is a man born in 1942 in Liverpool a city where satire and sarcasm form part of everyday speech its noted as part of the culture, it goes with the accent. He said something that would probably raise no more than a bit of a comment in the papers here, most people would have grinned at etc had similar happened with the Queen or the PM. Maybe he could have been more sensitive but he chose not to be, but its a lot less inappropriate to American ears, than a lot of things Bush said were to British ears.
  3. Heavenly Father has been the single most loving influence in my life I love Him and my Saviour because they are there, they are a part of me, there has never been a time in my life when I couldn't call on them, when their wise guidance couldn't help me. I don't fear death, I love life, my life is sacred and beautiful and is a blessing from them and I will not end it before its time is over, but a part of me is excited about going home. I don't fear God, but I fear letting Him down. I fear damaging that relationship, losing the bond. I fear hurting my Saviour when I think he took upon Himself my sins every time I sin I regret my part in the pain He suffered.
  4. nope lol my Mother was a teenager in Liverpool in the 1950s she came from the same time and culture as the Beatles, spent time in the cavern at that time etc, my Grandfather worked as a pianist at the theatres there and they drank in my Uncle by marriage parents pub. By all accounts they weren't all that evil a bit wild and interested in religion which they would be being in Liverpool at that time its a very religious city especially then. Its why I also know all Paul McCartney intended with what he said was a joke based entirely in satire. And like it or not the satirical character of George W Bush is idiot, forgot what his Father was but its no different to Mrs T being protrayed as an SS officer, the Queen Mum as an old lush putting bets on the horses, Prince Phillip as a rather big loud mouth etc
  5. Brian Epstein the man who really made the band was also Jewish descent and Gay so that was hardly new to them. And it was Hamburg they ran wild
  6. probably not much given as he died when Ringo the eldest was 7.
  7. maybe if their parents had walked round in the nude or their undies more often they wouldn't have been so shocked and that person wouldn't have been charged. because their kids would have known it was impolite to gawp.
  8. if you don't like it don't look. its your decision, but its their home, they are not breaking the law of chastity and its your choice to be embarrased, I wouldn't think twice about seeing my parents or my brother,. My Dad never came downstairs in the nude but upstairs at certain times of day his knickers were more likely to be on his head than his bottom, sure I went through the embarrased stage, but actually think in todays society its good for kids to see proper bodies
  9. LOL that was my thought, remember some very rude people when my husband had a long hair a beard, not sure the long hair, beard, smelling funky funky and wearing a dress and sandals he would be made to feel welcome in many of our churches.
  10. yup I gave my lucid dreaming tape to my daughter to control her nightmare only problem is its led her to lying in a lot lol as she says her dreams are too nice to wake up
  11. I think also remember if you don't stick to your principles chances are the same peer pressure is laughing behind your back, I found any LDS in my area that didn't stick to their standards may have got in with the right crowd but they didn't have respect for it. Surround yourself with good friends, mine would have been disappointed in me if I had slipped./
  12. With people like this I just leave some goodies with a card on their doorstep.
  13. He has 3 A :Levels at good enough grades and he had an offer for university, not to mention he actually owns part of one. He is far from an idiot, and incredibly well educated in many ways. It was a joke, based in satire and entirely part of the culture he comes from. This is the same culture that told the Queen to rattle her jewelery.. same culture that he met Bush probably would have asked him where the library was, same culture that portrayed Mrs Thatcher in an SS uniform, and John Major eating peas. Fact is Bush around the world is portrayed in satire as an idiot, and its deserved one his first public speeches aimed at world politics had him tell everyone Kosovo was in the middle east, normally acceptable but it was the last place the US had gone to war with, its the same satire that portrayed Clinton as a sex mad power freak, Obama has other things he is portrayed as. He is not an elected official and hurting his records sales will not make him destitute, and vast majority of people around the world know where he is coming from. Personally I think the American Sense of Humour will be satirised more out of this in my country than McCartney condemned.
  14. just a guess if someone was excommunicated for an invalid reason the excommunication rather than their baptism would be invalid?
  15. my thoughts are more with the ignorance and ill thought out remarks of a man who has chosen to be in public life and therefore affect the lives of many Mormons when he goofs. He chose his career, he has been there long enough to know what happens when things get reported, its not like it was off the cuff remarks in a private conversation.
  16. Firstly my body and all that, that entails is a gift from God and in some areas he endowed me better than others, why shouldn't someone with larger body parts celebrate them just like if you have smaller parts celebrate them too lol Its no different to good things come in little packages:)
  17. i no problem being undressed around my kids and that will continue until someone feels uncomfortable with it, but then they have the option of walking away. My husband is more conservative so he stays dressed. Neither is improper or breaking the law of chastity. My kids are 6,3 and 1 and usually join me in the bath
  18. hasn't produced enough to do a calender every year yet:)
  19. A Mormon can't be our head of state:) The Queen is head of state not the prime minister. And actually I do pray about things in other countries what goes on in them affects us.
  20. this is why I prayed like mad we wouldn't get a Mormon president:)
  21. LOL OK back to the OP not only do the Temple Recommend questions or procedures change overtime (there have been slight changes in my 18 years as member of the church), they change for me everytime I answer them my understanding changes and the standard I hold myself too change
  22. thats him lol sorry i was distracted I came across the Elijah Abel society many years ago haven't read their website in a long time:) My understanding is other black men did receive the priesthood if they were not of Ham before 1978
  23. Does he live on Earth? Of course gay and lesbian people can have a religion, and not many other religions do tithing. Honestly never did like the guy but this makes Bushisms look like Bush thought about it first
  24. my understanding was it was Enoch Abel's own great faith that broke the curse for himself AND his descendants?
  25. Joseph McConkie was actually the first Latter Day Saint apart from my missionaries I ever met. It was at a fireside in Invergordon. I certainly don't remember him teaching it as anything other than literal, but then it was a fireside at a small branch in Scotland. I do know the guy had a strong spirit and have difficulty believing anything he believes and teaches is that far removed from what we are able to believe and ruminate upon, the man was part of my conversion in a big way
