VisionOfLehi Posted July 5, 2008 Report Posted July 5, 2008 Okay, so I saw this today at the Megaplex 17 at the Jordan Commons. Which meant big and DIGITAL. (Yay! I love how clear it is, and none of those film spots.) The film starts off as you seen in the previews. Hancock drunk and asleep on a bench, bad guys in a shooting car chase. There's a lot of humor in the film, and plenty of action. There were parts where the whole theater was laughing, but definitely not something you'd want young children to be laughing at, IMHO. There's also quite a bit of swearing. The f word at least ones, s word a few times, and the and the 7 letter version of the a word appears MANY times throughout the film. MANY. Parts of the plot were predictable, as well. But I still thought it was good, interesting, and very fun! There's a little more character to it than your normal action flick, but you have to keep in mind it IS an action flick, not masterpiece theatre. There is violence that contains blood. Hancock is a drunk. And pretty much every characters says that 7 letter a word at least once. The swearing was enough to make me uncomfortable after awhile, and some of the violence was definitely not for younger kids. (It's rated PG-13, properly.) If you're okay with that, then I say go, because it's still a fun movie. I heard there's mixed reviews, but I thought it went along and ended rather well. Also, I must say I'm fairly easily pleased. When it comes to a movie like this I don't get highly analytical, and I don't look at cinematography. I just enjoy it, and that's my advice for all movies! (Of course, I'm highly critical of bad acting and bad CG, and I can't say this movie really had that.) For me, I give it a 7/10. Points lost for the swearing, and I don't think I'd rate any movie 10/10 anyway, . Quote

VisionOfLehi Posted July 5, 2008 Author Posted July 5, 2008 · Hidden Hidden Um, what's the point of that post? It's not digital everywhere, I was just sharing my experience that I like it because there's no annoying film spots. If you want to, you know, add something decent to a thread, then go ahead, otherwise you can tramp on someone else's threads and stay out of mine.
kona0197 Posted July 5, 2008 Posted July 5, 2008 · Hidden Hidden Calm down. I responded to your post with my opinion. By the way I don't think film spots are annoying.
skalenfehl Posted July 5, 2008 Report Posted July 5, 2008 Now, now, kona. Your comment was no more offensive than others were towards Oregon. Just opinions being exchanged, right? Quote
kona0197 Posted July 5, 2008 Report Posted July 5, 2008 (edited) I withdrew my first comment. Carry on. Edited July 5, 2008 by kona0197 Quote
Canuck Mormon Posted July 5, 2008 Report Posted July 5, 2008 I went and saw it tonight and I thought is was quite good. Yes there is the a-word several times, but the story is better than your typical "super hero" movie. I rather enjoyed it and so did my wife. Quote
Flyonthewall Posted July 5, 2008 Report Posted July 5, 2008 I am with you on this...I saw the movie today, and liked it. The amount of swearing is a concern for younger children, and is appropriately PG-13(only 2 f-bombs allowed before an R-rating, this movie had 1). I am fairly easily entertained so I try not to listen to many critics - they are way too serious about movies. It did leave me with several unanswered questions...but I won't go into those here... :) Quote
Moksha Posted July 5, 2008 Report Posted July 5, 2008 I'm not sure about you guys, but I say up with Bambi. I am certain the hunters among you may disagree. However, before plunking off Bambi and Thumper, it may be good to have a few beers with Hancock and discuss matters. Just keep the language clean! Quote
tubaloth Posted July 6, 2008 Report Posted July 6, 2008 I'm a fan of Will Smith. I think it is pretty good actor. Its good to see him back to the summer block busters (he started to do Dec movies). I did have some high hopes. I am kind of an opinionated person. Over all the movie is fun, plenty of action. Yes the F word is used. The other A and S word was there, and maybe a little over used. But I guess maybe I expect something worse I don’t know. The are some twists that I didn’t seem completely coming, which did add to the movie. Bad. I was kind of bothered that there big digital effects battle (that you see part in the commercial) was nothing that really needed to be there. Even more it was fast pase, just to show off a bunch of stuff happening. I didn’t think that money was well spent! Either Slow it down, or make it more simple is all. There was some un-answered questions that did make the story kind of strange. But I guess it made for a dramatic ending! It seemed a little short, but I guess it just went by pretty quickly. It is worth seeing on the big screen! Quote
RachelleDrew Posted July 6, 2008 Report Posted July 6, 2008 I enjoyed it. Something was really funny to me about Will Smith as a drunkard. Just because I don't see that in him, so it was entertaining to watch. Yes there is language, so if you have issues with that I would avoid it. Certainly not for kids, but of course I saw at least a dozen kids under the age of ten there like always. Quote
prospectmom Posted July 6, 2008 Report Posted July 6, 2008 waiting for the video. We don't get to many movies and by the time they are on video we pretty much know from all the banter if its a good one or not. FYI We are not against going to the movies wish we could more often but we live in the mountains over an hour from town so unless it is fit into our go to town plans dosen't happen much. I love it when we can... the whole experience... popcorn... crowd reaction ets.. awsome experience. Quote
