skalenfehl Posted July 19, 2008 Report Posted July 19, 2008 Has anyone read this series yet? I just got through the first book and am about to plow through the second. I was skeptical at first because I really haven't been into fairy fantasy stories for, oh, about 30 years now (I was converted to sci-fi fantasy by the likes of Buck Rogers and Star Wars). By the time I got to chapter five of this book, I was hooked. I don't care for Harry Potter, but if you like that kind of genre, then I highly recommend this series. It's a very easy, but compelling read.Fablehaven - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Quote
Tough Grits Posted July 19, 2008 Report Posted July 19, 2008 Thanks! I have seen these advertised on the DeseretBook website...but wasn't sure if they would capture me. I really like Cornelia Funk (Dragon Rider, etc.), Elizabeth Haydon (The Lost Journals of Ven Polypheme), R.D. Henham (Red Dragon Codex), J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis (Chronicles of Narnia), and many more. The next time I get a chance to get a book from Deseret, I will have to pick up a copy of Fablehaven. Thanks again for the recommend! Quote
melissar Posted July 19, 2008 Report Posted July 19, 2008 I have read the first 2 Fablehaven books and liked them Quote
Misshalfway Posted July 19, 2008 Report Posted July 19, 2008 Oh yay! Fablehaven. My son and I are reading it together. We are half way thru book one! Love it. I think about it every time a drink milk. Haha! Quote
skalenfehl Posted July 19, 2008 Author Report Posted July 19, 2008 I'm plowing through book two now. The first few chapters are slow, just like book one. Looking forward to it picking up. I'm enjoying it. Quote
Kapeenee Posted July 20, 2008 Report Posted July 20, 2008 My son has read this series and loved it more than Harry Potter. Quote
Hemidakota Posted July 22, 2008 Report Posted July 22, 2008 They have the CD version out also. Why? When I drive my wife's mini, she has the CD playing....LOL Quote
Dragonzilla25 Posted July 28, 2008 Report Posted July 28, 2008 Dude this is one of my favorite series of all time. I so can't wait or the 4th one... Quote
gemelinda Posted August 6, 2008 Report Posted August 6, 2008 I've read this series, It's a good one. When my grown son came to visit, he started reading them as well, and took them home with him he liked them so much. He started it and liked it so much he swiped them right off the shelf! He just had to finish it. I can hope he'll bring them back next time he visits :). Quote
Nibowaka Posted September 1, 2008 Report Posted September 1, 2008 My twelve-year-old grandson loves the Fablehaven series. I love that he is reading. Young people do not read enough, imho, these days. Quote
skalenfehl Posted September 1, 2008 Author Report Posted September 1, 2008 Normally I would have plowed through book two within a couple days, but I've been working out of state so long. If I'm lucky I can finally finish it by this weekend. Book three won't be out on paperback for some time and I don't really want to buy the hardback copy. I hate mixing my paperbacks and hardbacks with same series books. It's one of my quirks. Quote
Misshalfway Posted September 1, 2008 Report Posted September 1, 2008 That's funny Skaf. Don't think you are alone in your quirk. :) We have been trying to check out #2 at the Library. Always checked out! And then just a few days ago, we spied the paperbacks on cheap at Walmart!! Yay!!!! So.....we are off and running with book two. I suppose that is one of my pet peeves....when I start a book and get really into the story and then have to wait to read the next installment!!! Absolutely drives me nuts. I don't know how I made it thru waiting for the Harry Potter series. I was nearly dead by the time the last one came out. :) Quote
skalenfehl Posted September 2, 2008 Author Report Posted September 2, 2008 Mull is currently working on the next book. He's going to be at a small convention here in SLC this month. Maybe I'll go, you know, being a geek and all. Quote
Connie Posted March 31, 2009 Report Posted March 31, 2009 Did anyone read Fablehaven 4: Secrets of the Dragon Sanctuary? Wow... i didn't see that ending coming! Quote
skalenfehl Posted April 1, 2009 Author Report Posted April 1, 2009 4? I never got past #2. I may have to dust it off and finish it. There's just not enough time in the day anymore. There's another book that I started about 4 years ago. Still haven't finished it either. Quote
Connie Posted April 1, 2009 Report Posted April 1, 2009 (edited) Well apparently he's got one more to go. Looks like it's gonna be a 5 book series. Waiting impatiently for book 5 (ha ha, and book 4 just barely came out). HURRY UP, MR. MULL, I GOTTA KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT! I think i have a while to wait. Edited April 1, 2009 by Connie Quote
melissar Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 I have not read book 4 yet. Need to get it. Quote
Dragonzilla25 Posted April 10, 2009 Report Posted April 10, 2009 Did anyone read Fablehaven 4: Secrets of the Dragon Sanctuary? Wow... i didn't see that ending coming!I did, and I did see the ending coming. Once you think about it it's kind-of obvious(my friend guessed the ending before he ever started reading it)... Quote
Connie Posted March 31, 2010 Report Posted March 31, 2010 Fablehaven 5: Keys to the Demon Prison, last book in the series, came out the 23rd of this month. Very satisfactory ending to the series. Loved it. Quote
MStephens Posted March 1, 2011 Report Posted March 1, 2011 Fablehaven is one of those series that gets better with each book. The premise behind the series about wildlife preserves for mythical fantasy creatures is extremely creative and fresh. Quote
KCGrant Posted March 2, 2011 Report Posted March 2, 2011 I love the Fablehaven series and Brandon Mull is a nice guy. Quote
