MorningStar Posted August 16, 2008 Report Posted August 16, 2008 My cousin just came to stay with my mom briefly on her way to another destination and she brought along her new boyfriend and her son (who was on his way to see his dad - they divorced a couple years ago). My cousin was raised LDS and doesn't believe in God anymore, but she knows where to draw the line. Apparently her boyfriend doesn't. My mom said he seemed fun and nice at first, but he started making jokes about wearing "Mormon underwear" on his head. Later my mom mentioned how I am having my 4th baby and he said, "Oh, are they Mormon?" Why on earth would a person being housed and fed by someone treat them that way? I wish I had been there. I'd like to ask him if he stays with Jews and makes fun of their religious clothing. I'm wondering if my cousin told her boyfriend about my dad no longer believing and somehow missed the part about my mom being very active and faithful in the church, maybe thinking that she would appreciate knocks at Mormons. I hope that's the case, but still not happy that that's what he considers humor. All people with 4 children are Mormon. Yeah. Quote
FunkyTown Posted August 16, 2008 Report Posted August 16, 2008 I have a friend like that. He makes jokes because he is nervous around something he doesn't understand. Being offended doesn't educate the person - It just makes them think, 'Jeez! Those Mormons have no sense of humor.' I would recommend, if you really are bothered by it, to explain what it is and why. Or do what I do to a buddy of mine when he gets out of line - I go completely, ridiculously fundamental. "Hahah. Yeah. Our garments sure are funny. You're pretty insightful for a heretical, inactive adulterer." It's not the best way of going about it, but it's good for a laugh. Just know who you're talking to and where to draw the line. Quote
MorningStar Posted August 16, 2008 Author Report Posted August 16, 2008 I guess that could be, but it doesn't even have to be a topic of conversation. My mom has loads of things to talk about. I would think my cousin would at least elbow him and give him the death glare to knock it off. Quote
siouxz72 Posted August 16, 2008 Report Posted August 16, 2008 All people with 4 children are Mormon. Yeah. don't we know a nice doctor on this very site with 4 children and a 5th little monkey showing up any day now?! tee hee... Let's introduce that fella to my oldest brother, father of 9 children and not an active member ever since I can remember. hey! his wife is catholic, you think that has anything to do with it? Quote
Captain_Curmudgeon Posted August 16, 2008 Report Posted August 16, 2008 You're pretty insightful for a heretical, inactive adulterer.Love it! Like your approach and I'm writing that line down for future use.Naturally,R.O. Quote
Moksha Posted August 17, 2008 Report Posted August 17, 2008 That boyfriend was acting like it was your ninth child! Oh well, forgive him his trespasses and all that... Quote
dazed-and-confused Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 i agree with funky town...he's insecure .....people can do strnge things when they are scared...it was very rude of him to be sure and sweet souxz72...lol...you're funny as ever Quote
MorningStar Posted August 20, 2008 Author Report Posted August 20, 2008 Update: They're getting married. I guess I will get to meet him eventually. I'll have to ask when they're coming back to get their car from my parents' driveway and see if we can have a quick visit. Maybe I'll mess with him, talking about the 12 children I want to have. BWAH HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!! Quote
DigitalShadow Posted August 20, 2008 Report Posted August 20, 2008 It takes effort to be offended and I find that most people are not worth the effort. With that said, this guy just sounds like a jerk in general. He probably says things like that just to get a reaction out of people and by reacting how he expects, you are simply giving him what he wants. They're just words with the intent of getting a reaction, I would just let it go and feel sorry for the guy that has to make fun of other people's beliefs to make himself feel better. Quote
Rico Posted August 21, 2008 Report Posted August 21, 2008 All people with 4 children are Mormon. Yeah. No, they aren't, but they should be. I guess it's only natural to think that everyone with a big, happy family is Mormon. Quote
