MarginOfError Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 This article, and the research done to produce it, has numerous flaws and misinterpretations. The chief misinterpretation is that Democrats are smarter than Republicans. That is the most twisted interpretation of these results imaginable, but it's catchy (face it, it's all about sensationalism).I also can't stand their use of the word "average" as it has very little statistical meaning. If they are using the average as we think of it--the arithmetic mean--then this article is complete garbage. If they used the median, then it might reflect some interesting patterns in education and politics.Enjoy. I'll be expecting hate mail in my inbox! How the Rich Are Different From You and MePlaces that went for Obama are richer and smarter than places that went for McCain. Quote
skylercollins Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 Big Business and Big Government have always been in bed together... Quote
MarginOfError Posted December 12, 2008 Author Report Posted December 12, 2008 Really? I was under the impression that businessmen tended to conservative policies. Maybe that's just the businessmen I know, though. Quote
bytor2112 Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 I have always been impressed with liberal thinkers, like Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, very intellectual oh and Sara Pallin.....oops wrong party. Here is an intersting short read......Instapundit.com - Quote

Here is an intersting short read......Instapundit.com -That's really funny. That's also why you don't listen to philosophers! :)My favorite sentence in that whole thing: "In the 1994-2002 General Social Surveys (GSS), Republicans have over 6/10ths of a year more education on average than Democrats."woo hoo! 6/10ths! rameumptom Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 Given what both the Democrats and Republicans have recently done to our economy, I'd say that while the Dems might be a shade smarter, all of the politicians in Washington DC put together probably only have an IQ of 12. As Newton's Third Law states: For every George W Bush, there is a Barney Frank. Newton was an Independent. And so am I. Quote

john doe Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 As a conservative, I will agree that Republicans as a group played stupid the last year or so. You want my republican governor? The moron actually agrees with John McCain that global warming is human-caused and he wants to clean my wallet out to 'fix' it. Idiots, all of them. Quote
avatar4321 Posted December 13, 2008 Report Posted December 13, 2008 Obviously, the experiment was wrong. Quote

Oh yeah? Well, I am quite confident that the kid playing the banjo in Deliverance was a conservative Republican and that he grew up to be our current President. Oops, that sort of tends to reinforce what you and MoE said.Never mind. Quote

Oops, that sort of tends to reinforce what you and MoE said.Never mind. The kid in deliverance as you will recall, mimicked everything he heard. Kinda reminds me of the Palosi/Reid tag team.Palosi would however be close to winning the Tammy Fay look alike contest IMHO Seriously though, I find that as I get older I do not fit in any of the current boxes. I am becoming more and more a conservative and less and less a liberal. Quote

skalenfehl Posted December 15, 2008 Report Posted December 15, 2008 I'm smart enough not be Democrat OR Republican. Quote
austro-libertarian Posted December 15, 2008 Report Posted December 15, 2008 I'm smart enough not be Democrat OR Republican. No kidding! What does it even mean to be Democrat or Republican anymore? They seem hard to distinguish. It's either big government for welfare or warfare, and now both parties want both. Quote

FunkyTown Posted December 15, 2008 Report Posted December 15, 2008 I don't believe it. That kid on Deliverance was too talented to be our current president. Hahah. As funny as bashing Bush is due to the Iraq war, I firmly believe he was just being manipulated by the people giving him the information. When he has done things on his own - Developing closer ties to Eastern European nations like Ukraine or standing up for Georgia - He did well. When he relied on others - The Iraq War, Homeland Security - He made decisions that were terrible. He's a good man relying on manipulated intelligence from people with an agenda. Quote
rameumptom Posted December 15, 2008 Report Posted December 15, 2008 (edited) I didn't say he wasn't good. I did say that he's not that bright. He's the one that chose his advisors in the first place, and chose to listen to Rumsfeld over Colin Powell. He's the one that refused to fire Rumsfeld until after the midterm election. He's the one that refused to fire Gonzalez, whom he hired and listened to. Now, he's listening to idiots on how to spend trillions to bail anything and everything out that moves. When it came to Supreme Court justices, remember Harriet Myers? It took the Republicans on Congress and across the country to push that stupid idea down. It is one thing to occasionally make a mistake by listening to the wrong people. He's been making poor choices since the days when he ran his baseball team into the ground. He is not his father, nor his brother. He's a redneck who spent too much time boozing and snorting cocaine, and now we're paying for his continued poor choices in life. As Rich Lowry, a conservative columnist, recently stated, Bush is still fighting 9/11. For him, it is still 9/12. He doesn't realize nor recognize that the world is moving forward, and he's still in the distant past. With his focus entirely on the war on terror, he ignored everything else. He signed anything coming from Congress, as long as he got his money for his war on terror. No wonder we can't differentiate Republicans from Democrats anymore, as they are now both big spenders. No one was minding the store. All were watching the back door for terrorists, while the store was being emptied via the front door. Edited December 15, 2008 by rameumptom Quote
