Wow... Someone thinking the people should dictate matters of morality in government, and being called a homophobe for it. Well, that or personally being against homosexual marriage.

That's messed up...

I dunno. A couple of gay people I know have no problem in taking formerly derogatory terms ("queer", et al) and wearing them as a badge of honor.

Why can't we social conservatives do the same? Anyone want to join me in starting a "homophobes" club?

People like that don't help their own cause any, just because somebody disagrees with your approach doesn't mean they have an issue with your end goal. I don't know Scalia that well, so he might, but not thinking its the place of judges but legislators to make gay marriages legal is not evidence of that.

Look at the crazies who bomb abortion clinics versus people who try to get laws changes, same end goal (reducing or eliminating abortions) highly different methods. And yes, I know this is an extreme example but it makes the point.

Scalia is a homophobe. We're talking about a man who thinks you should be charged with a crime for having homosexual intercourse.

That being said, Barney is a moron for various reason unrelated to this issue. I don't know which one is worse, being a homophobe or being a moron.

I think definitely being a moron. I would be interested in reading a homophobic comment made by Justice Scalia if you would care to post.....or is that your opinion? His dissenting opinion that you are referring to is not evidence of homophobia....IMO

Technically, he believes that as a general rule a state should be free to pass its own laws; and that gay sex is not a sufficiently protected constitutional right to be included as one of the exceptions to that rule.

Unfair charge against Scalia, based upon the article. His argument concerning sodomy was that the Constitution is silent on such laws, so states have the authority to legislate the matter. That's a far cry from saying he personally calls for such laws.

Barney should be the last person calling anyone a name....

Good point . . . IIRC he's up to his neck in the Fannie/Freddie meltdown. Politician's rule: Whenever you find yourself in deep shizzle . . . play the persecuted minority and hope someone changes the subject.

Calling any person a 'homophobe' for not agreeing with homosexuality is a duplicitous tactic by those who would stifle the voices of those against gay marriage. The easiest way to publicly slander one's opponent while maintaining one's own positive image up is to make the opponent look like (s)he is advocating social injustice or is narrow-minded or intolerant.
