I believe that an excommunicated member has to be re-baptized and re-confirmed, and then after the pre-requisite year-long waiting period, they can receive a "restoration of ordinances" as far as the temple covenants are concerned. But yeah, a heck of a lot more that "a Priesthood blessing."

As they are starting over - fresh and ready.

Hey, i got Baptized this July just gone. I'm looking to go through the Temple after one year of me being Baptized. The Missionary's have said I can (if worthy) recive the Endowment at this point. But when reading some Church publications they seem to say you will only be able to go through the Temple 1. Before you go on a Mission (of which I am to old) or 2. before getting married (which I can't see happening within that time period) Btw, I am Male, thought id mention as I recently heard that Sister's cannot be Endowed unless they are doing one of the above two. I am now slightly confused as to wether if im worthy I will be able to go through the Temple now in July/Agust of next year? Can anyone help clarify?

If your age on your profile is true..there should be no reason why you can't go to the temple if found worthy.

This is the "normal" time, when Males go through the temple. Either going on a mission (Age 19) or getting married.

The other option is the 1 year mark, which is where it would apply to you.

Yes this is also the tipical type for Woman, usually when they are getting married. But a lot of woman take out there endowments when they feel they are ready.

Thats what we are here for, (and others in your ward). It can be confusing for new members because they don't follow the course a life long member follows. If you keep progressing, you can actually go to the temple for Baptisms for the Dead. I don't know if there is a time limit on it, its more between you and the bishop. But the Endowment is a year.

Yes, its true! So I could still go after being baptized for only one year? can you understand my confusion from the comments i made?

Yes I can understand your confusion. But I would take John Doe's advice and speak with your Bishop. Let him work through your timeline with you. There are also temple prep classes which I believe you also need to take so ask your Bishop about those.

Glad you asked and welcome.

Yes, thank you that has cleared some things up now. I have had the previlage of doing the baptisim's for the dead in my local temple. It was an honour for me as I had only been batized for about a mounth at that point I think. I did allready hold the Aaronic priesthood though, not sure if that had to be so to do it though?

The reason I said about the Sister's is because recenlty a Sister from my ward said that she was told by her Bishop that she could not go through the temple until she was getting married. She also is a convert. She is 21 years old, and said thats the standard policy for Sister's? But not for the males (going through the temple)

Oh, maybe she just interpreted what our Bishop said wrong then idk. Well I'm aiming to return to the Temple lots more between now and end of next year. I still can be doing things in their before my endowment. Btw, why does yr profile say you are 108? lol

This is kind of normal. If a guy wasn't getting married or going on a mission the bishop would probably give the same advice. Its when members get in the 23 years old or later that Bishop kind of finds it more appropriate. It just means they don't want anybody to rush into going to the temple.

If this sister wanted to after she reached her year, she should talk to the bishop. He probably well still encourage her to wait for marriage, but that isn't set in stone. I know Sisters that wanted to get there endowments at 21, I know others that are waiting for marriage and there over 30.

My wife got her recommend a couple years before we got married, but did go to the temple until 1 week before we were married in the temple.

But she did have the recommend as a temple worthy member for quite some time before going for the first time.

I was 50 (and single) when I joined the Church -- I couldn't wait to get my endowments. The Bishop told me that usually one gets their own endowments when they get married but in my case it would be different. Funny thing is, I met a new member, we were first married by the Bishop and then when we were able to both go to the temple, we both received our endowments and were sealed. It was a busy day! My sisters who have been members many years were present and we sealed our parents and were sealed to them as well! Quite an exciting day! I love going to the temple! I'm in the Primary Presidency now and my favorite primary song is, "I Love To See The Temple.":D

Yes, males must hold the priesthood to do baptisms for the dead.

So are you saying that a mentally retarded, but baptized, 12-year-old young man who has not been given the Aaronic Priesthood will be denied a temple recommend to participate in baptisms for the dead?

That is the direction given to our ward, yes. We recently had a situation in our ward where two boys turned 12 but were not ordained to the priesthood before the day of the baptisms for the dead. The bishop told me they had asked about it and confirmed that young men need to be ordained to the priesthood before they could participate, even if they are found to be temple recommend-worthy. Young women do not have that requirement, obviously.

So how soon did you get married after becoming a member?

I assume you're talking to me. I got married 3 months before my one year baptism anniversary. Because of our ages, we decided to first be married by the bishop and then go to the temple when we could to be sealed.

I'm going to close this thread. Plus the OP is no longer with the site. The thread was about garments. If anyone would like to continue this conversation please feel free to start another thread.
