My upstairs neighbors like to play their music late at night, LOUDLY! They don't just keep playing it late--they start it late and keep playing till all hours. Though I normally just grit my teeth and let it go, one time it was so late and so loud I finally got fed up, knocked on their door, and asked them to turn it down, which they did--a little. Another time this happened I knocked on their door, but there was no response when I knocked on the door. So I called the police, who came by in about 15 minutes or so, and the music got turned down. Anyway, in the past couple of weeks, the neighbors keep doing this! Though I have neither knocked on their door nor called the police again, apparently the music is bothering other people who did. Once about a week ago, and again tonight I've had police officers knocking on my door asking where the music is coming from and which door to knock on. You'd think the neighbors would learn!

I had neighbors like that years ago. Impromptu parties at 4 AM, so I called the police several times. Finally the manager suggested to them that they were not ready for apartment living and that they should find a nice mountain cabin instead, where their impressive sound system could really shine.

I've had a lot of neighbors like yours ( they must be cousins lol)

These people are usually so called 'artists' and party freaks.

Got the cops called in for them several times, knocked on their doors too, didn't do much :(

but, they're the kind of people who like to smoke weed and all, so you can try to call the police saying you may have smelled a strong odor, like marijuana but can't be too sure.

Also try something like you've seen some underage prostitutes there.

(really happened, horrible neighbours)

sounds like my new neighbors. i'm at the point that either the neighbors or my eardrums go. although they were good last night *knock on wood*. i'll go to bed at 10pm with the music blaring, and wake up at 4am for work and the music's still going. i honestly think sometimes they just get so drunk or stoned that they forget their music is on when they pass out. i'm gettin ready to complain.

Wow... I must be seriously lucky. I've only ever rented one flat (apartment, whatever it's called in America) which is my current one and I don't hear a sound from my neighbours, not even in the evenings or mornings. If I didn't know better, I'd say I was alone here (there are five flats in the building including mine - all occupied). But then there are no students allowed in this building... could be why.

I would think the police wouldn't have to ask 'which door?' anymore.

I live in a single family home, but it is surrounded by condos, and sometimes the new neighbors don't realize their voices carry from their patio right to my bedroom window. They aren't talking loudly, but I can hear every word clearly. Once I let them know I could hear their conversations, they toned it down.

We also have new neighbors who just bought a condo, and are apparently trying to flip it, so they are doing construction at all hours of the night. That took a couple police visits to get them to stop. You just need to be polite, and make sure you know your neighbors so they can back you up.

I do like the idea of cutting power though. :)
