It would probably be stereotypical of me to say everyone is expecting a fantastic testimony, but the truth is I just don’t have a story like that. And I’d rather not lie to people saying that I have a solid testimony when I don’t.

I am one of those members that have never truly fit in the church. So what am I doing on an LDS forum? I’m actually trying to find ideas that will inspire me to go back to church. For me being LDS isn’t easy, it’s work. It’s hard work.

I’ve been inactive for a little while now (a little over a year, but I guess that’s better then 20 years), and for some sheer out of the blue coincidence I decided I would become active again. I think my main problem is that when I’m active I plateau and then I stop going for a while again. I’d like to find a way that when I become active again I don’t stop going.

The way to grow your testimony and stay active, is for you to be involved in building your own testimony. Don't rely on others, who are also working on their own testimonies, to always be there to strengthen you.

Instead, spend time daily searching and pondering the scriptures. Seek to know the mind and will of God through intense prayer. Serve others, both in and out of the Church. Pick a few areas in which you can develop talents and skills (both spiritual and temporal) that you can then use to bless yourself and others. Get involved in family history work, missionary work, or just doing nice things for the family next door, or the families you home teach. Your personal involvement level will determine your activity level and the strength of your personal testimony.

Just don't burn yourself out. You are not doing these things to earn your way to heaven, but to grow spiritually. Pace yourself where you will be growing, but not overstretching.

Hello!

Welcome to the group. I'm new too and can SO relate to you. You've taken the first step by deciding to become active again. Now you just need to make it a ritual to attend church and meet some of the lovely women that attend RS. Are you an introvert or an extrovert? If you're an introvert it may be a little more scary unless you have some very outgoing women in your ward that will take you under their wing. Although I know you can do it! Something that may get you over your plateau is take on mini projects that your ward needs completed - nothing big, just something that keeps you attending. I'd suggest that you talk to your RS president about what's happened in the past and what YOU think prevents you from staying active. You can do it! :-)

Welcome. I hope you find what you are looking for here. Not everybody has a burning testimony... but some just know it is truth.

Curious though. What does your username mean and how did you come up with it? It's always interesting what meaning some of the names have for people.

I used a screen name generator that asked what my name and hobbies were while I was making a profile for the forums. In this case my name is Scott, my favorite color is blue, and my hobbies include working with my mac (pc's aren't bad, this is just a personal choice). - Then out popped my screen name :D. It's kind of fun actually. I spend several minutes seeing it would give the same answer twice.

Feeling left out and not fitting in seems to happen to many here. Welcome to a club that can relate to you. This place is indeed helpful.
