bytor2112 Posted August 6, 2009 Report Posted August 6, 2009 Article from slate.......check out the pictures at the top. The SLC Temple is crushing America. Quote
Wingnut Posted August 6, 2009 Report Posted August 6, 2009 My husband was reading this article last night. I glanced over, but I hadn't seen the pictures in detail, and I haven't read it yet. Quote
Maxel Posted August 6, 2009 Report Posted August 6, 2009 Looks like the article portion dealing with the SLC will be written tommorrow- will check back then. Interesting article... Thanks for posting this, bytor. Quote
Moksha Posted August 7, 2009 Report Posted August 7, 2009 Of 144 different scenarios, shouldn't at least one involve us? Fair play for Mormons! It is comforting to realize we are recognized as a potential scenario. Quote
MarginOfError Posted August 7, 2009 Report Posted August 7, 2009 This was actually a part of a series of articles that addressed the possibilities for the end of the United States. The article linked to by bytor addresses the possibility of secession breaking up the Union, but does not actually address anything about the Church. The Church is discussed in this article, and is spoken of quite favorably. It makes the claim that if the US were to break up, it's core values and ideology would persevere in history through the LDS Church. Quite an interesting take, actually, and I highly recommend it. Just_A_Guy Posted August 7, 2009 Report Posted August 7, 2009 Interesting article, but I wonder. Mormonism was founded partly on the premise that the Second Coming would be "soon"--our very name ("Latter-day Saints") implies as much. If five hundred or a thousand years pass with no Second Coming, I think Mormonism would have an awfully difficult time holding together. Quote
Guest Posted August 7, 2009 Report Posted August 7, 2009 dunno about that... jehovah's witnesses are still holding together even if their original second coming calculation of late 1800's never happened... Quote
Moksha Posted August 7, 2009 Report Posted August 7, 2009 The Catholic Church helped preserve Roman civilization. Can Mormonism do the same for America? - By Josh Levin - Slate Magazine Quote
talisyn Posted August 7, 2009 Report Posted August 7, 2009 They've found us out! Quick, grab the invisibility cloak! Quote
Jbs2763 Posted August 8, 2009 Report Posted August 8, 2009 is that the same guy taht is a regular on Glenn Beck? Quote
Moksha Posted August 8, 2009 Report Posted August 8, 2009 Actually, the article talks about Mormons as the preservers of American Culture if some catastrophe strikes. Quote
Aesa Posted August 8, 2009 Report Posted August 8, 2009 Actually, the article talks about Mormons as the preservers of American Culture if some catastrophe strikes.If/when America falls, that'd really be an almost 'hook, line and sinker' scenario for me. If the Church is what preserves Judeo-Christian culture in the Western World ... then that seems like a huge fulfillment of prophecy (i.e., the church is true) to me.Aren't there a few places in Scripture where God says he'll preserve his people/his church? bytebear Posted August 8, 2009 Report Posted August 8, 2009 (edited) I wrote the author with a few corrections, and three were corrected or at least clafiried. One was, he called the church "The Church of Latter-day Saints" How ignorant. They did change one of the "Mormon Church"s to "LDS Church" but still use "Mormon Church" throughout.
