Sorry to be so bold in the title.:)

This month my VT's came with a message about continued learning and so I thought what is something I would like to learn about. For years, I have wanted to have my videos from when my children were small put onto a DVD. With the message from my VT's I have decided that I would like to walk this path and have creative licence with my own videos. I know that there are places where these things can be sent out to but I would like to learn this for myself. I am also wanting to learn more about photography and picture editing so this can be an extention of my new passion.

The video camera I have is a Sony Handycam that stores the videos on cassettes that are called 8 mm. We have never put our videos on anything else and to watch them we have connected the recorder with jacks to our TV. We have a lot of cassettes so I am looking for away to record them to DVD and then give them to the family and friends in the video.

I have done a bit of searching on the internet and found software and recording devices. Now I am looking for something that really makes this easy and fun. With Grandbabies on the way I see a great need for this talent in our family and hoping someone can steer me in the right direction. If you have some ideas feel free to contact me or post here.

Thanks, learning can be sooooooo exciting!!!

On the way huh? Is that an announcement or wishful thinking? ;)

KUDOS on all this SF! I love that you want to do this yourself! I'm not going to be of much help here. I've only messed around with creating vids with free online programs and already digitized files, but I'd LOVE to learn more. If you find a digital editing class somewhere and want the company, I'd be very tempted to take it with you! You're amazing Woman!

I just checked my programs and I have Windows Movie Maker, any one used that with success?

Me and my wife have used it several times and it works well. We use it to make DVD's of TV shows that we recorded.

Does your computer have the audio/visual hookups (red, white and yellow) for your camera? If so, you should be able to download them right into Movie Maker and start editing.

Thanks CM!

I just got my laptop within the last month and will dig out some of the stuff that came with it. You have the wheels turning in my head. :)

Unless you have the latest and greatest computer with all the bells and whistles, you will likely need some additional hardware. Either an Analog to Digital Video converter box, a camcorder, or a video card for the computer that can accept analog signals.

See eHow

Thanks for the link... I do best with visual learning and this is great! :)
