desirexnoel Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 desire, I don't recognize your Bible quotes and they're difficult for me to read. Would you also include where they are from so I can refer to the KJV?I'm sure I understand your point or your question. They are from your source Ezekiel ch 29 17-20
Justice Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 I haven't quoted Ezekiel, have I? desire, when a modern prophet speaks over the pulpit it is considered scripture. However, many of them have written books in which they clearly state it is their opinion. There is a difference, even if others have a hard time seeing it.

Justice Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 Are you sure it was me? I'm cornfuzzled.
desirexnoel Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 Are you sure it was me? I'm cornfuzzled. Not anymore... O.o*sigh* I have to go find it again...
desirexnoel Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 Are you sure it was me? I'm cornfuzzled.*sigh* No. It was Kawazu.Sorries. Anyway, yeah... it was Ezek
pam Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 Because Articles of Faith, the book by James Talmage is different from The Articles of Faith found at the back of the Pearl of Great Price. The former is not doctrine, but the latter is. That's what I was referring to. The ones in the back of the POGP. Not the book by Talmage.

desirexnoel Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 desire, I added to the confusion. this was meant to lattelady, not you. :/Sorry I confused you!Lol. It is okay.I obviously wasn't paying enough attention.
pam Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 After 208 posts on one thread..who wouldn't be confused?
lattelady Posted August 21, 2009 Author Report Posted August 21, 2009 So to wrap up the confusion, :) "henotheistic" is what the LDS church is and teaches, not "monotheistic" teaching or "polytheistic" teaching?
bytebear Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 So to wrap up the confusion, :) "henotheistic" is what the LDS church is and teaches, not "monotheistic" teaching or "polytheistic" teaching?Uh... no. Some members may take that position, but others do not.
lattelady Posted August 21, 2009 Author Report Posted August 21, 2009 So this is one of those areas, I guess, like lstinthewrld was talking about in another thread he started, where not all members agree on core doctrines--and they're entitled to their interpretations. I wasn't saying the Church DID teach henotheism, I was asking for clarification.
Guest Believer_1829 Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 (edited) So this is one of those areas, I guess, like lstinthewrld was talking about in another thread he started, where not all members agree on core doctrines--and they're entitled to their interpretations. Others recognize their belief for what it is and don't care what people think. And some just don't know what to call what they believe. Edited August 21, 2009 by Believer_1829
bytebear Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 They agree on the nature of the Godhead, they just can't agree on what to specifically classify their beliefs as.I think that's accurate. I think we agree on the nature of God, but we define the terms based on different criteria.
Justice Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 Yeah, that hardly means we disagree on core doctrines.
Guest Believer_1829 Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 (edited) Breath buddy... I am explaining to her that the core doctrine is the same, what to classify it as varies from person to person. Repeat after me: "Tranquility now." Edited August 21, 2009 by Believer_1829
HiJolly Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 I haven't quoted Ezekiel, have I?desire, when a modern prophet speaks over the pulpit it is considered scripture. However, many of them have written books in which they clearly state it is their opinion. There is a difference, even if others have a hard time seeing it.Justice, the LDS.ORG website specifically declares that such speeches are *not* doctrine, nor scripture. Sorry. I keep posting the article on doctrine, but it looks like you at least haven't read it! HiJolly
Justice Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 I was just throwing in my agreement, nothing more. I guess it's just a bad night.
Kawazu Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 So to wrap up the confusion, :) "henotheistic" is what the LDS church is and teaches, not "monotheistic" teaching or "polytheistic" teaching? If I am not a monotheist, why hasn't anybody let me know?
HiJolly Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 I think that's accurate. I think we agree on the nature of God, but we define the terms based on different criteria.I think that's because as Mormons, we don't really like technical, formal 'theology'. Not at all. We're more of a 'listen to this story' people. HiJOlly
Maxel Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 I was just throwing in my agreement, nothing more.I guess it's just a bad night.Justice... You're awesome man, and allowed to have a bad night. However, we expect nothing but perfection from you for the next month. Only one bad night a month!
pam Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 Coming up with zero results doesn't necessarily mean anything. I've put in some pretty basic words for searches and come up with nothing.
Justice Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 Post it again for me please, this is way too long to go through again. I missed it because I wasn't looking for it. It never occured to me that what the Apostles speak at General Conference is not considered scripture. I'll read it this time, promise.
HiJolly Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 If I am not a monotheist, why hasn't anybody let me know?ROFL. That's priceless. You are welcome to be a monotheist, but I'm perfectly happy being a LDS panentheist. HiJolly
