I just wanted to give a great big CONGRATULATIONS to OneEternalSonata for being ordained to the office of an Elder yesterday!!!!!

Congratulations!!! Oh what Darvin left you is sooooo true!! Rarely do you get to plan on that. You get a call or a kid gets sick and suddenly, there you are!! Let the spirit guide you and you'll be fine!

Congrats...btw...what do they give you at your ordination? When I became a seminary student, the President of the school gave me a towel (go wash some feet young man!). When I was ordained we received shepherd's staffs. What emblems do LDS elders receive?

There is a certificate of ordination given. Nothing officially mandated as far as emblems, but I do know more than one Elder who received a small vial (usually that fits on a key chain) in which to carry consecrated oil with them at all times but that is usually from family or friends.

Yeah I missed this. Way to go. My advice is when you consecrate olive oil for the first time, don't do like I did and consecrate an entire gallon (from SAM's). Just fill your vial and consecrate it... I think that bottle is still at my dad's with a label on it - "Consecrated".
