The writings of Charles W. Penrose and George Q. Cannon both suggest the opposite of your conclusion, especially when coupled with Joseph F. Smith's comments. If you don't know what I'm talking about, go do your homework.

I'm starting to think we are all back in school with all this talk of homework.

That's because you are forgetting the clear teachings of Theodore Belden Lewis. Shame on you! Don't you people ever read ANYTHING?!

Look, I told you where to go for information. If you're too lazy to do your own research, well, I guess you'll just have to wallow in ignorance.

Look, I can do research all day and still wallow in ignorance. It's one of my specialties.

Don't you just hate it when you realize you went to law school for three years to learn a skill that just comes naturally to someone else? :satan:

The reality is, there are reasons I know we have true prophets today. The Spirit has witnessed it to me. The priesthood I hold (I am a high priest, have been for 20 years), has demonstrated priesthood power many times via revelation, priesthood blessings, etc. I have no doubt our prophets are Prophets, Seers and Revelators, and that the members of the Church, when guided by the Spirit, can be prophets in their own lives.

I just got my Priesthood Line of Authority from the Finance and Record Department of the Church. It came with a brief explanation of the Line of Authority, and had a neat little thing at the end.

Validity of Your Priesthood Ordination

Because of missing information your priesthood line of authority may be incomplete. In such a case, your priesthood ordination is nevertheless valid because:

  • Your stake president, through the priesthood keys he held at the time, authorized your ordination
  • Your ordinations was recorded in the official records of the Church

It strikes me that it doesn't matter what words we use when we ordain a person, because by the letter of the law, a person who is recorded by the Church to have the priesthood has the priesthood. A person whose ordination is not recorded does not have the priesthood.

The words we use certainly seem to be within the spirit of the law, but the Church does not extend them to the letter of the law.

Anyway, just thought that was interesting.
