pam Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 I find it amazing...all the missionaries are accounted for and safe...Church meetinghouse is largely undamaged. But then again...those meetinghouses were probably built much much better than any other building in the area. Quote
ADoyle90815 Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 The thing I just heard is that planes with supplies are backed up, and the air traffic control tower was destroyed, so they're relying on people with radios to direct traffic. The best way to help right now is by giving some to the humanitarian aid at church this Sunday. Quote
pam Posted January 15, 2010 Report Posted January 15, 2010 No need to wait until Sunday: This has been posted on another thread but you can donate here:https://secure3.convio.net/ldsp/site/Donation2?df_id=1861&1861.donation=form1&s_src=14703 Quote

talisyn Posted January 17, 2010 Report Posted January 17, 2010 It's horrible!!!! I can't remember anything worse Quote
john doe Posted January 17, 2010 Report Posted January 17, 2010 It IS sad. And I hope that those of us who are able to do so are contributing to the aid and rescue efforts. But stuck in the back of my mind, is the question about what we can really do to help these people for the long term? We can help them recover from this disaster for now, but is there really anything we can do to help prepare them for the next one? I fear that this country does not have enough honest people in power to help them change course from this cycle of corruption and disaster they are stuck in. Quote
bcguy Posted January 17, 2010 Report Posted January 17, 2010 Just like the war in Iraq, I am sure in the long term the us government will work with top leaders in the Haitian government to appoint new personal. deals_dog Posted January 19, 2010 Report Posted January 19, 2010 The US has had a bit of a flogging at times over its foreign polices. However for those of you who are Americans on this site I tip my hat to you all yet again. I am absolutely awestruck at the out pouring of aid and equipment coming to assist our Haitian Brothers and Sisters from the United States. New Zealand a very small country has pledged 1 million dollars. China a very wealth Nation has also committed 1million dollars (makes you think a little does it not?) But the United States has rolled up her sleeves once more and is really going to work to assist those folk. You can be proud of your country as I am of it. I served as a missionary to the folks in Southern California in 1980-82 and loved the people there. I know the church will be busy and I will be assisting by giving a bit more in the fast offering next month. My heart and prayers go out to our family in Haiti Quote
pam Posted January 19, 2010 Report Posted January 19, 2010 The ONE thing that has upset me through this..is watching a short interview with the President of Haiti. He complained about the Presidential palace being destroyed. Wahhhhhhhhhhh Quote
