Mirium Posted February 24, 2010 Report Posted February 24, 2010 So, when we repent and gain forgiveness from our sins we are told that they are washed away and God remembers them no more. This is a wonderful thing to know but we remember our sins, we have to to remember what we learn from the experience and hopefully to help us not to repeat the sin. Maybe I'm taking it too literally but if God knows all our thoughts and our sins are still there in our memory how can they be washed from His memory Quote
Moksha Posted February 24, 2010 Report Posted February 24, 2010 Maybe I'm taking it too literally but if God knows all our thoughts and our sins are still there in our memory how can they be washed from His memory Maybe they are not washed, but with ultimate forgiveness no guilt or reminders are ever forthcoming.Wish we arms of the flesh could do that as well. Still we can try to emulate His act of forgiveness and be inspired by it.:) Quote
marts1 Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 Have you ever been able to forget an offence from another? I have. Probably my bad memory huh. Quote
JudoMinja Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 There is a difference between forgetting and forgetting.Of course you will not forget your sins (maybe some but not all). You must learn from them, and remembering them will help you keep from repeating the same mistakes. But you can forget them.Ever had something that was bothering you so much you just couldn't get it off your mind? Everything seemed to remind you of it, every little word or action or observation throughout your day made you think of it, brought back memories of it. You just couldn't make it go away no matter how hard you tried. When you thought you'd finally let it go, something else would crop up that reminded you of it.Remember the way it felt when you were finally able to let go? Yes, you still remember it, but it is no longer on the forefront of your mind. It no longer bothers you every moment of every day. When you do think about it, it is with simple understanding and not annoyance, guilt, or anger at your inability to cope with it.This is forgetting. We can remember our sins no more in this way, just as the Lord does. Quote

Justice Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 The key is we are currently mortal and exist in "time." God is immortal and exists in "eternity." One who is in eternity is not bound by time nor subject to it. It is a different reality, if you will. Once Christ's atonement is applied to your sins while still in time, they are gone from eternity. Once you are resurrected and restored to your body, those sins no longer exists. Alma's words to Corianton, his son, in Alma 39-42 are very good on this subject. Look for "restoration" and look for the distinction it has with resurrection. They are different. Quote
Traveller Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 I would be more inclined to say that our sins, after we fully repent, are removed from the book of life, where our lives are recorded and used at our judgement. Therefore, God does not reflect upon those things (does not remember them) during our judgement. Quote

marts1 Posted February 26, 2010 Report Posted February 26, 2010 On our own it would be hard, if not immposible to totally forget in this manner were talking about here. I have heard of people actually totally forgetting. I have experienced it myself. The purifying power of the Holy Ghost makes this possible. It is quite the miracle. Quote
