lizzy12 Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 Have you ever had a Charlie Horse ? do they hurt less or more then pregnancy. Do you think arrange marriages work better then non ? Thats what the stats reflect ! I think ppl can learn to love each other :) Quote
pam Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 Let us arrange a marriage for you lizzy and you can then tell us if it is true. Quote
Guest Godless Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 Do Charlie Horses hurt more than pregnancy? Probably. Do they hurt more than childbirth? Probably not. Define "work better". I'd imagine that fewer of them end in divorce, but that doesn't mean that they're better. Quote
pam Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 Charlie horses hurt like heck no matter if pregnant or not. Quote
Nikkie85 Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 I hate having a charlie horse! I get one at least once a month or so and they drive me crazy! My calf will hurt for the next few days and be sore to walk on. As for being worse than childbirth I doubt it...I have no clue about arranged marriages. I don't always think they are a bad thing if both parties agree to the marriage. Quote
Wingnut Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 I never had a charlie horse until I was on birth control. Then I got them every 5-6 weeks. I'd wake up in the middle of the night screaming out loud, waking my poor husband. It was just one of the lovely side effects. Luckily, even though the APRN at my doctor's office told "they wouldn't have anything to do with the birth control," they stopped when I went off it. Ironically, I got them again -- just a few times -- while pregnant. I ended up having a c-section, 19 hours after being induced, and I'd honestly rather go through labor and post-op than ever have another charlie horse again. Quote
miztrniceguy Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 I once met a pregnant horse named Charley. frequent charlie horses can be caused by potassium deficiency. Quote
Lbybug Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 i get charlie horses every few months. they hurt like heck and i always wake up screaming in pain, because that's really all i can do. especially when they go all the way up my thigh. OUCH. best thing for them is to flex your foot. it's gotten to the point where in order to keep my foot flat, i lay in bed with my foot flat against the wall. that's the only way i can keep it flexed. i get them while swimming often too....almost got one in the middle of the ocean while snorkelling in DR. if i'm awake i can prevent them... worse than labor? i can't say, never had a baby. never been in an arranged marriage either. or an unarranged one either. but seeing as they're usually set up by parents, i think an arranged marriage wouldn't work for me, seeing as the last guy my mom wanted to "hook me up" with was married with 3 kids.....yip. love my mom. Lbybug Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 I once met a pregnant horse named Charley. frequent charlie horses can be caused by potassium deficiency.also by not drinking enough water Quote
Iggy Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 (edited) Do you drink a lot of soda pop? The carbonation in the pop depletes your body of water. So for every 12 oz of soda you need to drink 18 oz of water. Buy yourself some diet tonic water. The quinine in the tonic will stop the cramping. Works too. When I wake up with my foot curled up like a dead chickens foot and the pain is burning through the core of my body- I stump out to the kitchen and get a bottle of tonic water. I buy the small bottles, and I drink the entire bottle- warm. Then I work on straightening out my foot and then walking the cramp away. With out the tonic water, it would take nearly 3 hours to get foot and leg back to their normal position so that I could go back to sleep. With the tonic water it only takes 1/2 an hour. OH, and I reduced my soda pop intake to 26 oz a day- from a six pack a day! (72 oz), and increased my water intake by 72 oz. When I drink more than the 26 oz. of soda, I end up with cramps/Charley horses during the night. According to my Dr. dehydration is the major cause of most cramps. You would have to have a serious and drastic deficiency of potassium to cause cramping. So don't go taking potassium pills- you can easily overdose on them. Before you do, go have a blood test to see where your potassium levels are. Edited March 20, 2010 by Iggy Quote

How much water do you drink as you are walking around the stores. I too get bad cramps in my feet after 3 hours of grocery shopping. It is not from bad shoes either (I only wear Croc's)- I keep a small bottle of Tonic water in the car along with a 20 oz bottle of G2- Both help with the cramp and the loss of electrolytes. Quote
Lbybug Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 i'm on my feet for pretty much 9 straight hours a day anyways, so as long as i'm wearing the right shoes i'm good. but if i'm not wearing my runners, and walk for 5 or 6 hours, i know i'll pay the price that night. i know i don't drink as much water as i should, but i've been dealing with this issue since i was 14....so for 15 years. i've pretty much come to the point where i know what has caused my charlie horse to occur, and usually it's more an issue with footwear than water....at least in my case. i'm not saying everyone is the same. annamaureen Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 I've only gotten a couple charley horses in my life but oh man, they are agonizing. Arranged marriages are less likely to end in divorce; not saying I'd go out and get one, but it's interesting to think about. Possibly because they're based on shared values and background, rather than lust or blind emotion. Quote
MarginOfError Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 The current divorce rate is around 50%. That means that I could accurately predict if a marriage would fail or succeed by flipping a coin. Part of me wants to try an experiment where I randomly assign partners and see if my success rate is any better. Quote
talisyn Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 Charley horse vs. labor...that's a tough one. Labor lasts longer but that muscle cramp is the worse pain I remember feeling. At least with labor you get that rush of hormones that lets you forget the trauma Quote
john doe Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 I used to get charlie horses all the time, especially after a hard night of playing basketball. But after having kidney stones, which I'm told is nearly as much pain as childbirth, I'd rather have the charlie horse. A charlie horse has never been so painful as to make me curl up in a ball next to the toilet so I could vomit conveniently or cause me to nearly black out. And I have a high threshold of pain compared to most people. Quote

pam Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 Let me just add since this is about two totally random subjects and in no way linked together. If I had to live an arranged marriaged it probaby would give me a charlie horse. Quote
