SOUTH SALT LAKE -- Two LDS churches caught fire overnight, destroying one of the chapels and causing hundreds of thousands of dollars in damages.

It looks like this whole "Burn the Mormons" thing is catching on, sadly.

So far this year

Attempted Arson - torching of the LA Temple (the arsonist started a fire outside the temple when he was unable to get in, attempts at entry caught on camera)

Successful arson of an LDS chapel in Washington

LDS "youth" setting fire to their own building

Successful arson - LDS chapel in Utah

Marginally successful arson - LDS Chapel in Utah

If the trend continues we will see 30 or more LDS buildings burned over the next year, possibly more.

Do you know if my assumption is correct that the uninhabited home was next to the meetinghouse? Collateral damage, so to speak?

The first fire was at 3219 S 300 East

2nd fire at 2702 S. Main street

House fire: 2983 S. 500 East

So not on the same streets. Therefore could not be collateral damage.

Apparently he is a returned missionary who attended BYU recently. He told authorities he was angry at the church, but it wasn't over Pres. Packer's recent remarks.

It is sad that a member would burn out meeting houses but a returned missionary? I hope he can now get the help he needs and that in time he can move forward with his life.

This morning the news reader said he had recently been excommunicated. This is pure speculation on my part, but perhaps he was unrepentant and angry over being excommunicated.
